Can anyone tell me why do you hate this game so much?
underaged/childish blind hatred, that's all I see when this game is being discussed here.
not gonna lie, its gameplay is pretty generic.
none of it is new, but it's solid and pretty challenging (more than Resi games imo) in higher difficulties.
y'all just hate it cause it's by ND/Sony and you don't agree with the politics of the devs.

Because it literally doesn't bring anything new to the table. The story is just a zombie apocalypse plot and the gameplay's lackluster (How lazy do you have to be to make a character invisible to enemies because otherwise you can't make your game to work?) yet it's regarded as some kind of cinematic masterpiece.

Because it's a 5/6 out of 10 that everyone claims is the second coming of Christ in vidya form. It's aggressively average and can't be bothered to present its story in a compelling way.

Well Datk Souls did't do anything new either.
Sometimes it isn't about being revolutionary, but excelling in certain aspects to create a solid and satisfying experience. Not everything can be groundbreaking. I mean even Monster Hunter World isn't ground-breaking or revolutionary by any means but people still love it because it exceeds in the core gameplay, monster hunting.

Yes but it is the first of its kind and quality for videogames which is what makes it special or unique at the very least you can't really sit here and tell me the story is just shitty or you're lying or haven't played it

the latest RE game was even more scripted yet you never see people calling it moviegame, it's hated bc it's exclusive dude, plain and simple

like, it aint bad, I found it entertaining and overall I liked it.

I actually like the game and story for what it was, but I don't appreciate the dishonest marketing of it. They were claiming it would be the next level AI and showing "demos" that were obviously bullshots because there were PS1 games with better AI. The worst part is I'm afraid they're doing it all over again with part 2 and no one is calling them out on it.

games have had far more unique and better told stories for years dude

RE4 did the gameplay and "escort the girl" shit back when Naughty Dog was making platformers. The story is a rip off of The Road, Children of Men, Odyssey to the West, and countless other sci-fi. It has stock enemies that are simply zombies that have been in countless other media. It uses cheap emotional tricks like killing children and women, showing suicide and rape. The Last of Us is for people who have no understanding of the history of sci-fi or video games and think all this is new.

alright let's talk about cliches for a moment, you can isolate any element of any story and call it cliche.
cliches are stigmatized as unoriginal but theyre tools used to craft a story, nothing is entirely original, all current works owe the work that came before them in some part, so that means any aspect any creative work has the potetial to be a cliche
what you dont seem to understand is that its not individual ideas that make something original, its the combination of already existing ideas
cliches can be done poorly or executed perfectly, but you simply point out that something is unoriginal and leave it at that, as though just the accusation that something isnt unique is criticism enough
the problem you have is not how cliches are used, is that they're cliches to begin with, which is a lazy and shallow argument you could have about anything

Never played it. I decided I don't like Naughty Dog's games after playing Uncharted 1 & 2 and strongly disliking both. I really, really don't enjoy wannabe movie games with unresponsive controls. It's the same reason I don't give a fuck about most of Ubisoft, Rockstar, etc. games anymore either. TLOU looked to be more of that sort of shit.

The multiplayer is good

It's basically a Fumito Ueda game, only done deliberately, more successfully and with a AAA polish and setting that pleases the mainstream.

It's a 4 act narrative that shows a journey of two strangers who end up loving each other by the end. Every chapter shifts the dynamic between the two, and shows a different facet of their relationship. Its survival-esque gameplay systems serve as a foundation to weave a tapestry of different emotions in various, highly context-driven circumstances.
The gameplay is generic, but every element is carefully weighted and through that it achieves integrity which most AAA games lack.
It's also simply fun. Turn "Hearing Mode" off or play on Survival/Grounded and you will most likely have a good time.

I love his games, but Ueda didnt invent the "two people who either dont feel anything for each other or outright dislike each other end up inseparable by the end" thing. He is really fucking good at it though.

He didn't invent it, but he is most famous for it. Even though he, ironically, never meant his games to be about relationships.
