Which is precisely the problem. FF7, despite the fantastical elements, is a very human tale. It's a story about a weak man who wanted to be strong and could only do it by pretending to be other people. Not realizing that he already had all the ingredients to be strong and the only person holding him back was himself. It was a man who'd been wronged by the world government and in his rage, which was entirely legitimate, let himself become the same monster as the monsters who wronged him. It was a woman holding on to the last thing she had of her past life even as it was distorted and weird and not at all like it should be. It was a company consigning the planet to die tomorrow so they could get paid today. And it's employees being held hostage with work by a company that does not care about them. And the people in the slums being so discontent with their shitty lives that the only distraction is the Wall Market, a place where everything is for sale from clothes, to food, to sex.

These are all very human issues that can resonate with anyone. Not time travelling ghosts desperately trying to preserve the canon of a beloved video game as a meta commentary of the video game industry as a whole just to SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS. You know what else did this shit? The Last Jedi. And it fucking sucked.

But thee are just some things that bother me to no end in it. To name one, it's way too restrictive: forced camera angle, forced slow walk, you can't go there, etc. It just doesn't let you explore on your own.
And if someone's talking but you want to go to the menu, you end up in the fucking pause menu instead of the menu. And it's not a cutscene in particular, just the shop NPC or something that hasn't finished yet. This shit happened countless times already.
These are my biggest gripes with it.

The ghost shit and plot raping is there from the start. Why only the last 4 hours? Its bad from start to finish.

honestly this and the padding are my only gripes with it. Outside of battle segments it feels like I'm playing uncharted. Like sure you can say your game is 25 hours long when I have to sit through slow walking segments.

Battle gameplay is so good though.

You know what makes this worse? Sephiroth was supposed to be this all powerful ghost that no one understands until halfway through the game. He shows up, fucks shit up, and then disappears just as quickly. Shinra had been beating AVALANCHE's ass the entire game up to that point and then Sephiroth shows up and cuts their head off like it's nothing. You don't even contextualize how much stronger he is than you until you see him casually crank out 3k damage against your piddling 100 damage. He's attacking Shinra but he's not an ally either and that's the mystery surrounding him for the first part of the game. But Sephiroth is too fucking popular and Square couldn't resist blowing their load on the first jerk.

No one ever needed that. Not every supporting character needs to have their 15 minutes in the limelight with a full arc and backstory. You genuinely don't know anything about good pacing or storytelling and it's obvious because you're defending a shit uwu good+ ending retelling of the game.

One of the few things I liked that the Remake did was Tifa's emotional moment after the Plate drops. Tifa just lost her life for the second time, it was a little weird that she barely reacts to it in the OG and I'm glad someone acknowledged that. Still mad at the game though

Tetsuya Nomura is a supreme artist. He fully understands that Final Fantasy 7 is a cultural artefact which transcends the original game. Instead of giving us a plastic 1:1 remaster, he's allowing Sephiroth to become a real threat again, reviving the tension the game had in 1997. By altering the storyline through the fight against the time jannies, he's teaching us, the audience, not to live our lives in a cycle of routine, nostalgia, and resignation to fate, but to take charge of our own destiny. Nomura is rising above the expectations of the industry, and even in his own audience, out of artistic integrity. We can only admire and applaud him for it. Thank you, Nomura-san.

They're side characters you moron, do you want a whole spin-off game of them? The point of adding to their characterisation is to give you a reason to care about them. In the original I didn't care when they died because they had no identifiable traits that to empathise with. Fleshing them out some more was definitely the right thing to do because they, like a lot of things in the original were incredibly underdeveloped. I'll agree that the remake suffers from some padding issues but those moments are not one of them.
