P5R is the better game but it's not worth spending sixty bucks on when the original release is about 95% the same content and only twenty bucks. I'd vote vanilla P5 if you haven't played it yet, then save the rest of your cash for something else.

Alternatively if you have a Switch, DQXIS would also be the superior JRPG option, just so long as you activate some of the harder challenges at the start. Otherwise you will fall asleep from the mindlessly simple combat.

If that's the case then you should get the original P5 for like twenty bucks. The new content in Royal amounts to one dungeon you can finish in half an hour, a few unfun bonus battles and the standard Atlus rerelease waifu bolted onto the story.

I played 20 hours of it on Switch. It's absolute garbage, from generic menus to the cringeworthy story with awful characters to the boring combat.
