FF7-2 is a great standalone game. I see no gripes from an rpg standpoint. The game feels immersive with your accomplishments in the early chapters. Probably should do a low effort run to see the differences.

You can, but you don't need to. You could jump right into the remake and potentially enjoy it, if it's the sort of game you like.

You can also add some command line tweaks to up the LOD distance too. It helps a lot with the pop ins.

Can anyone who's played both the original trials of mana and the demo of the remake let me know if it's worth holding off for the new version? I want to give it a shot but not sure which version to play. I don't care about graphics, the overall quality of the game is more important to me. These kinds of remakes often miss the mark, but everything I've seen so far as an outsider looks good.

I've played the original several times and the demo of the new one was great in all areas except the english voices are fucking terrible in a really weird way which I solved by switching it to the JP dub. You can even switch the soundtrack between SNES and the remixes (which I did not do because the remixes are fantastic).

I deliberately avoided playing the demo since I prefer my first impressions of a game to be legit. It sucks to play a demo of a game shortly before release then need to redo the same section in the full game, or lose out on that first experience the way the game was supposed to be played.

The save carries over.

I skipped the demo for the same reason but the remake seems better in every way.
The original's gameplay was never that great; it wasn't "bad", but it wasn't what made the game so memorable.

Right now it's sort of a tough call, really.
The original has some notorious bugs and balance issues. The gameplay is simple but fun, however the way magic works makes it a drag in my opinion; to use magic you open a menu which freezes the action completely, select the spell and then your character casts it. Magic spells are unavoidable both to you and your enemies so there's that.
The gameplay in the remake feels much more engaging, you have a light attack, a strong attack, a charged attack, jumps and dodges which are not in the original. Magic also works more organically since you use shortcuts, and the screen doesn't freeze when you cast a spell.
If the demo had been harder than it is I would undoubtedly recommend the remake over the original, battles feel more fun, but if the rest of the game is as easy as what we saw in the demo then that point is kind of moot.

Game let's you save a demo clear file you can carry over. Will pick up right where you left off.

Besides the cutscenes being really janky (the transition from 2D to 3D while keeping the same rythm being the culprit I think) the game is good so far, as most people have said the game isn't hard at all yet so if you really value difficulty you might want to hold off before the full game is out and we know if it gets harder or not, in the full game or the NG+.

Issue with difficulty is we cant judge the first area based on it, and unfortunately it seems hard mode is the worst kind of difficulty, only increasing hp and stats of the enemies.

This game is even shorter than RE3, so no. Only gonna be like a 5-6 hour game.

Yeah that shit sucks, the most evident problem with the difficulty is that enemies don't attack nearly often enough. I stood still in front of some of them, out of curiosity and they spent full seconds doing absolutely nothing.

Doesn't help that the beginner enemies also have really fast attack animations, so you will still get bit or smacked around by rabites and mushbooms.

I don't know. Only Mana game I've played in full is FFA. Was playing SoM and planned to play ToM's SNES version (at least a little bit, if not the full ything) before this comes out, but I finally started Divinity II and it's currently holding my attention much more than SoM.
