Why are the environments in this game so fucking drab, gray and uninteresting?
Coming from other JRPGS like Skys of Arcadia. FF9 amd Xenoblade where the landscaoes were fantastical and vast, this game is rather underwhelming. I think the only chapter with some actual fucking colors was 9 with the dancing minigame.

seeing the plate cover the sky is straight up dizzying. the amount of detail is staggering. there are so many little details taken straight from the original it's wild.

They only merged with Enix because they were hemorrhaging talent for years and Enix still had some good IPs and workers. Enix caved, but they made sure that Squaresoft had to change their namesake. The fact that Squaresoft succumbed to concatenating and suffixing the name of their company shows you how little negotiating power or capital they had when merging.
