I tried playing Morrowind the first time at 26 years old (and ye, I am familiar with old school rpgs), what's all the fuzz about? The game is not real good and especially the response if you even hit something is non existent. I honestly think Skyrim is better than Morrowind in a lot of ways.

It's a mod called Tamriel Rebuilt. When they were making Morrowind they ran into some limitations or time constraints, I don't remember, and only had the island of Vvardenfell. That's why in Tribunal you are teleported to the mainland of Morrowind and can only explore Mournhold. This team is working on recreating the entire mainland.

Skyrim is fine. I have way more respect for people who just openly like video games instead of people who try to feel a false sense of superiority for liking an earlier entry in the series. This debate is, what, 5 years old now? It didn't start until a few years after Skyrim's release when all the contrarianism set in.
It's like when people still have retarded arguments about 3 vs NV. Yes, NV is a superior game in terms of writing, mechanics, and world design. That doesn't mean Fallout 3 has literally nothing to enjoy in it. Same with Skyrim. The games co-exist in the digital and memetical space, it isn't a situation of one or the other, and the endless bickering and worthless dick measuring contests do nothing for anyone other than to piss everyone off on the sidelines, people who enjoy both.
I may love Morrowind, as it gave me the same fun as my years upon years of D&D did when I first played it, but I love Skyrim too. There's nothing wrong with that, and those who see flaws in liking one game over the other, to the point they try to argue an inherent superiority to one game or the other, are wrong, and not only that, they do not truly appreciate the magic of the Elder Scrolls series.

To be honest I fucking hated Skyrim for like, the first 3-4 years it was out. But then something in me stopped making me look at it like a pure RPG, and more like a first person action RPG with some good lore, and I started really coming around to it. It also probably helps by then the really high quality mods were coming out for it.

None of the TES games at least from Morrowind onwards are true RPGs in my opinion anyway, their just action-adventure games with RPG elements. To me a true RPG needs meaningful character choice and the opportunity to actually role play your character. TES games don’t really have this.
