Final Fantasy XII

We all agree that FFXII was probably the best Final Fantasy.
The great debate. Did ffxii zodiac age fix the battle system of the original PS2 game? Or was it made too easy to compensate for the job system. In the most modern version of the game, You can have 2 jobs yet the difficultly was never increased. Is it too easy now?

Just play both?

Zodiac Age lets you SPEED THINGS UP LIKE RUNNING AROUND THE MAPS WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK WASTES LESS OF YOUR TIME?

It was decent and very polished in many ways. For a PS2 game graphics were on another level but overall it was boring as fuck.

Nah. Played it for the first time recently, though it was pretty bad. Decent ideas, but bad. The main cast was the biggest offense in my eyes, while the gameplay was fun but flawed

Not the best.
But the last good one.

the speeding things up makes the game way more enjoyable to the point where playing the non zodiac version feels like cancer

What if that is part of the experience?

more like the first bad one

The only thing this game lacked was difficulty

That would be X

Honestly, both are sort of correct. I think it’s the first time I played a mainline FF and thought “they have no idea what the fuck they’re doing”

Best combat system, aside from quickenings which made all encounters a joke.

The PS1 games and the XII all now have a turbo button. After that I can never go back to vanilla. They released the remaster of X and X-2 twice and they still haven't put in a skip cutscene button for X or a turbo button for either.

Why do you think so? The game practically plays itself with the right gambits and I found the combat to be visually unappealing

Zodiac Age is all around the better experience especially if your Xbone X or PC 60FPS just makes the game look so much smoother and feel better to play even for a JRPG.

>Or was it made too easy to compensate for the job system. In the most modern version of the game, You can have 2 jobs yet the difficultly was never increased. Is it too easy now?
Not really the thing with the international version is it barely modified any enemies and ended up being a significantly harder game just due to having significantly less licenses for each character. With 2 jobs you still end up with less overall options and licenses than the original. Your forgetting the fact the original gave every character access to every license. The difficulty early on is much easier with the greatly improved weapon selections but it gets tougher later, international/Zodiac Age has a much better difficulty curve. You can also farm chests in many areas to obtain equipment early before its available in shops but this requires either luck or you to be looking at maps with chest contents since they can often just have crappy drops like a small amount of gil or a potion. The end game hunts are still very tough although the increased damage cap helps but that is only relevant when your already in top tier equipment. International/Zodiac Age also has new best equipment but most of it is stupid hard to obtain some like the Seitengrat basically being impossible to find without a guide (the devs even said they expected players to come across the Seitengrat by dumb luck). It spawns in one specific place at a very low rate in an INVISIBLE chest I believe there are a few other new pieces of equipment obtained similarly.

if they just made a few changes the game would have been perfect IMO
>license board gives you buffs for equipment instead of letting you equip it
>what you can equip tied to jobs
>no need to buy gambits, magic or abilities in stores, instead learned from license board
>some dialogue while in battle and running around
>job system more like FF5 + Bravely Default where you can change jobs
>no party members under the age of 18 unless they have a really good story and aren't annoying

why is x-2 hated when it has objectively the best FF combat system

The IZJS on PS2 already made the game too easy, and Zodiac Age made it incredibly easy.

That said, it's hard to go back to the original because of all the legitimate improvements made in the newer releases.

How to fix it: Play one of the difficulty patches for the PC version, like this: nexusmods.com/finalfantasy12/mods/59

>people claim to love the game when they spend 90% of their time speeding through it

I'm playing through the PS2 version right now currently trying to reach the Zodiac Spear but having some trouble sneaking past mobs even with invisibility maybe I'm too low leveled at 47?

Making summons replace your party was the stupidest shit ever

It only worked in X because it was turn based. In XII everything just gangs up on your summon and murders it in seconds, even in TZA

X is still the only game to get it right, and that was probably an accident.

X is fantastic
XII is star wars with grinding

The combat system is the only good thing about it. Nobody wants to play Barbie's Big Adventure and have to follow a guide to not get the bad ending

I'll add
>Characters change costumes when they change jobs

I though it was pretty clear they were doing the Tactics thing, but they completely ignored what made jobs fun in Tactics.

It's the only Final Fantasy that interests me, so I'll probably pick it up after Xenoblade DE
I heard the Xbox and Switch versions have additions that weren't added to the PS4 version, so I'll pick it up on Switch

I bought TZA last time it went on sale and so far I haven't had to make myself play the game so that's good. Lot of games recently get to a point where I have to force myself to play it and then what's the point?

How did you know there was a Zodiac Spear in there?

Shut Up Nigger N

I got it on Steam, played straight through but once I get past Great Crystal I lose the will to go on

Ok, its at least better then star wars though.

I managed to get it right before doing the Jagd Yensa, but you gotta do some serious bullshit run with a SHITTON luck, specially after reaching Nabudis
congratulations, you have been filtered in the Great Filter

They also need to make the game harder. Zodiac Version is absolutely better, but they didn't re-balance any of the enemies so it's just too easy to breeze through it with any mildly competent character building.

I love Ivalice so much
The clan primer in XII was so fucking good. All the tiny lore tidbits, all the poetic flowery language, it was amazing.

I love Ivalice too, but I was super disappointed I could only have a viera companion but literally no other races besides humes

The Ivalice Alliance just has a great setting overall. Even the Advance spinoff has its good points.

unironically one of my least favorite final fantasy games. I played through the whole thing but it was a serious slog.

The game is too white. Too many blondes, endless seas of white faces. Its why I don't play most final fantasy.

A bangaa would have been cool. Also maybe just let Montblanc be a companion, I dunno.

Replace Vaan and Penelo :^)

How does playing thru the grind at a fast pace affect the experience of the game to the point that you cannot be a fan of it if you played it in such a way? That IS what you are implying, right?

>the craftmoogles will never fix up the Nechrol of Nabudis

Almost everybody in the game had a middle-eastern skin tone, since they live in the desert.

>They brought back Matsuno for the Ivalice expansion when they could just phone it in or do it themselves.
>Matsuno's been dwelling on his mortality and wants to get in one more game at least.

Just fucking let him do one more game Square. It's not like you need to make it a AAA production.

Necrohol of Nabudis is fucked for decades, maybe centuries. It's an allegory for nuclear weapons - Shit's radioactive, except the radiation also transforms the local wildlife into hideous killing machines.

Seriously, though. Why place the game in such a rich setting as Ivalice and make the main cast some of the blandest, boring FF characters ever? Like, at least XIII had Sazh.

Its called final fantasy. The last thing I want to see in my fantasy world is a pavement ape fucking up civilization.

Playing Zodiac is just the Easy mode of the original.
>but it's more complete
Well, yeah, but is just not the same experience, is almost a different game, the balance of the original is just perfect and require actual thinking before you enter a battle, I would only recommend Zodiac if you already played the original before so you can experience "the complete version".

4/6 of them weren't bad. It was mostly just Vaan and Penelo that were the problem.

Basche should have been the protagonist, those two should be written out, thus leaving room for two more interesting characters.

just play NG-

You have to unlock that though.

They will hate you because you speak the truth

>XII
>grind

>TFW you will never get a Baldur's Gate-style CRPG set in Ivalice with Sakimoto on the soundtrack
why even live?

The game really needed more skills that didn’t suck shit. Zodiac version just makes it worse by limiting everyone to like 3 different “deals random damage based on BLANK” trash skills and maybe one good one that you’ll get the license for in the first quarter of the game but wont actually find until the fucking post game. Its fun at first but you never really unlock anything of value as you progress so it really drags in the mid to late game. Really weird considering X and XI had plenty of interesting skills.

The longass road to Archades turns a lot of people off but power through it. The best bosses in the game are on that road.

PC version of X doesn't have a fast forward but it has all the cheat toggles, like encoutner off and full health etc.

>filtered in the Great Filter

...but I said I made it past there. It's afterward right before Fortress Bahamut where I can't keep going. Too much grinding to be able to kill the last couple marks, nothing in the Umbra whatever is worth doing, and the final dungeon and boss are not fun

yeah but it's worth the hassle
also level 100 Trial Mode is pure madness
the Great Filter is not the first Crystal visit, it's the other ones

It's a band-aid solution, but it works considering the alternative is remaking the entire game.

>We all agree that FFXII was probably the best Final Fantasy.
lol no.
I think it's super underrated and great but just no

The first bad FF was 8. Well actually 3 but whatever

>this but unironically
I adore the original 12, but yeah fast forward just shows how little people care about it

>I though it was pretty clear they were doing the Tactics thing,
>when it's nothing like the way Tactics handles jobs
lol?
>bro follow a guide or you'll miss some retarded % point and have to follow a guide

Why do people hate turn based and ATB so much now? Are these RPG just not seen as good anymore at all?
