If anyone thinks that Valve has any idea of how this works, you need to be lobotomized. This is nothing more than technological snake oil.

It is the future gramps. Get over it and get assimilated
You can’t take these guys seriously. Do you?
Bump
I have one, this has been a thing since the 90s, most government employees have one too.
You can read brain's electrical signals RIGHT NOW without any of this shit, it's just a fucking helmet.
Why the hell are you ludites talking about matters you know nothing about?
Because it can send signals and it fucking hurts.
>Because it can send signals and it fucking hurts.
THEN JUST BOYCOT THIS SHIT AND DEMAND A DEVICE THAT ONLY READS YOU, INSTEAD OF FUCKING MIND CONTROLING YOU (like that even will exists in the near future, though)
>Acting as if this’ll be anywhere in the future.
>hacks ur brain and makes you shit ur pants
This shit is never coming lmfao
I DON'T HAVE ANY BRAIN SIGNALS AND I DON'T WANT TO NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY WITH YOU GUYS ANYMORE
We will soon be living in a dystopia where the elites have control over us.
Anyone who thinks that brain-machine direct interface is a good idea clearly has never read any cyberpunk stories.
>inb4 lol that’s just fiction
Since when has plugging something directly into your brain ever sounded like a good idea? It’s a fucking idiotic idea, which is why I’m afraid something like it will eventually catch on.
As the saying goes, we are living in a cyberpunk world; it’s just not as cool as we thought it would be.
BEHOLD! GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS!
are you the shitty ai that keeps getting on my team
you play like shit
This’ll become real. Another way for the NWO government to fuck you.
>futurama meme of advertisements being played in your sleep becomes real
f u c k
This is absolutely untrue.
What Valve is working on is most likely similar to the project that Oculus has recently acquired, which is basically a wristband that will know how you want to move your hand without you actually moving your hand.
It is supposed to make controllers a thing of the past. But it's not going to connect to your brain directly, more like, to your hand muscles.
>it hurts!
Proof it causes pain?
Facebook already has tech that can convert thought-to-text albeit slowly, their big challenge is getting it to almost instantaneous thought-to-text and putting it into a consumer friendly device. This was in a F8 conference not even 4 or 5 years ago and they predicted this shit to be out by 2030 at the latest.
This.
youtube.com
It's not about replacing your eyes, it's about replacing the controllers.
>Fake corporate hype
Yeah I’ll totally believe them.
>That part where they're showing it reading hand movements even without the hand physically moving
Shit's scary
Your vision gets highjacked too though doesn’t it? It takes over everything.
It’s called “Brain Computer interface” they’ll be able to control everything
How does a wristband that measures electricity flow in your wrist muscles hijack your vision?
>Gabe drops a cheeseburger on his keyboard
>Accidentally sends out the signal that causes all the post card sized microchips to hit 500 degrees
>Oops
>Yas Forums keks for months
Just look at the Oculus tech videos other anons posted in this thread. This is all still Facebook. Google "Regina Dugan BCI", shit is happening way faster than most people think.
I assume this uses the tendons in your wrist to his a series of micro-switches in the wristband. Right?
They’re talking about putting microchips into your brain that’ll simulate feelings like hot and cold. I don’t think it has anything to do with what you’re talking about.
These are 100000% the new "jedi controllers" Oculus wants to ship with their next generation devices.
It can interact with brain neurology, prove that triggering a pain receptor is not equatable to pain.
We are NOT ready for this. Not yet.
The patent doesn't make it very clear but it has something to do with electricity. Possibly tendons position measured with conducitivty.
This. People keep acting like its happening. Its not anytime soon, like centuries from now maybe
>brain-reading technology will advance to the point of being able to draw with your mind
lobotomy is frontal lobe
That's why you become part of the elites while you still can.
They aren't, it's all about non-invasive solutions.
The eye tracking technology Facebook purchased doesn't even use cameras currently, it only monitors your muscles from outside to determine how you're moving your eyes.
I'm not sure how the typing thing works like, but it's also just something you strap on your head, wouldn't be surprised if it didn't really read brainwaves but muscles, again, instead.
Any proof? Where in the two videos does he suggest that? Everything they talk about in the Valve News Network podcast involves putting microchips into people heads to help simulate feelings.
does that mean i can create as much porn of my fucking my waifu as i want and be able to look back on it later?
If this ever works how will it work with drugs and alcohol or will we even need them anymore?
wort wort wort
So like wearable BCIs? This calmed me down a bit lmfao
Yes
Your brain already interfaces with computers pretty well using only eyeballs and screens.
They talk about in the videos treating people with Alzheimer’s and PTSD
finally
no more needing to see pictures of her fucking some random oc that after 5 years i still don't know who or why he's there
The technology is still decades away though if possible at all, but almost anything is inevitable in some form
This is the kind of shit I'm going to college for.
That said I hope they're not planning on actually sticking fucking electrodes into your brain tissue.
Neuralink's threading machine seems WAY safer.
Not watching those vids but I remember watching an interview where Gabe talked about how making you see things is much easier than a lot of other senses.
I don't give a fuck about any of the other shit, if I can have essentially just a direct video feed in to my brain, I'm fucking sold dude.
No lie, would be first in line for a brainchip but would suicide by papercuts before getting one from Facebook.
It took Valve 4 years to catch up on Oculus with finger tracking, just on time as Oculus is getting rid of controllers altogether it seems. I wish them the best, but they're kind of slow. Anything Valve is talking about is probably pure fantasy. They don't really have enough mapower and financing to really push things forward. On the other hand, existing solutions are completely non-invasive and this is where "brain-computer" interfacing really is currently.
Gabe’s son said in the podcast that they’re further along than most people think they are. They could have something done in as little as five years.
So how does feeling temperatures have anything to do with hand tracking?
I mean, if it's actually about putting electrodes into peoples' brain, I don't think this will be successful with mass adoption.
They literally say it in the video. Did you not watch it?
They're also saying it's a problem.
“This does include implanting chips into a players brain.” The description of the valve news network video says.
Id install a brain chip if it meant taking the pain away.
Yeah, so they’re trying to find non invasive solutions? So far it doesn’t seem like that.
Gray is acknowledging that this is won't fly though. What I'm taking out of it is that they're conduting experiments like this, but what will eventually be released must not require surgery. It's my interpretation though.
What if you have to choose between physical or emotional pain?
I think they said that they intend on selling implants.
Imagine replacing your keyboard or controller with a touchscreen. How often you would miss the keys, you would have to look down constantly.
Now imagine taking away the screen.
This is retarded on its own.
It's also retarded because the ONE BIG PROBLEM that stops VR from being successful is FORCE FEEDBACK.
Until you can FEEL an item held in your hand, it's fucking nothing, a gimmick.
After a bad accident I've lost a lot of mobility in one of my hands. Making specific shapes with my hand in VR sounds like a bad time so having a computer that can "read my mind" or attach to my wrist sounds pretty cool to me. Problem is I don't want your stupid motion controls, I just want an alternative to existing schemes
>scan your brain to read what you say in your head
christ
dystopia is inevitable
>getting a SÖYTECH® GoyChip implanted into your fucking brain to play video games
Eventually in the future. He's speculating that there will be two kinds of people, with an implant and without implant.
Later in the video he talks about how it would work commercially and implant is not the first step.
>tfw you will die in the "luddite wars"
we probably lose, but at least we'll go down recognising the body is sacrosanct
have fun being techo-slaves!
As far as controllers go, they could just ship with a dummy to hold on for compatibility with older games.
Keyboard would be more complicated.
> slowing down the chip in your head after 1 year, when the new model arrives on the market and stopping the support entirely, allowing hackers to give you eternal nightmares and seizures
The body's not sacrosanct, but the true path is genetic modification and not merging with technology.
