How is it possible to age worse than the game you're supposed to be a remake of?

Nice b8.
The original RE aged like milk with its ugly environments. Remake is still very playable, HD or not.

0 effort

Original RE plays almost the same as REmake. If you like one and not the other, you're a retard.

RE1 has vibrant, memorable environments. REmake looks dull and drab. It's also more challenging and has more replay value.

Original is fucking ugly, even for the time.

I see that yet agIn OP is a faggot.

I honestly prefer RE1's Shining-esque mansion over REmake's 2spooky haunted house. REmake is nonsensically dark pretty much everywhere.
And they have aged equally as poorly since Capcom lost REmake's original background assets and so couldn't upscale them properly.

Both the original and the remake are superb, always will be

This. Replacement fags are the worst. REmake and RE1 are both playable.

Both games are bad gameplay wise so it doesn't matter.

>B-BUT ATMOSPHERE!
The dark hallways and eerie music are ruined by generic zombies and giant animals.

>B-BUT PUZZLES
Multiple choice questions instead of anything actually intellectual. And there aren't even many choices, at most you'll have 3 or 4 places to backtrack to at that time to get item A to item B. The areas aren't even big so the exploration and puzzle aspect of it is childs play. Nostalgia is the real reason you think the games are good.

REmake is still the best game in the series.

I played RE1 Director's Cut for the first time like 5 years ago and it's still good, but sort of an acquired taste

RE does environment exploration the right way. The rooms are small, but are inhabited by enemies, so navigating is still a challenge. And the enemies can permanently die, so backtracking isn't tedious. It's smart design that more developers can learn from.

I legitimately consider the first Resident Evil the most poorly aging game ever made
It revolutionized the horror genre, arguably DEFINED it, but within six years it was considered a messy laughing stock and most fans of the series can't respect it as anything other than a Tommy Wiseau style so bad it's good game
That said REmake is so fucking good that it's easy to understand why people loved the original so much

The only thing that's really lame is if you beat the game with both characters on normal with the same save file. The Forest zombie with a bandolier of grenades attached to him chases you around for a handful rooms during Mansion 1.

played REmake for the first time a few days ago, it definitely holds up
going through 0 now which isn't on the same level at all, but also not unenjoyable

For a 1996 3D game, it looks exactly like a product of its time.

RE1 is cheesy, but the gameplay still holds up well.

I noticed with video game there's always the type that have to push for realism and make the medium more serious. It's almost a way to validate games as a hobby to themselves. They're dismissive of older games or embarrassed by games being silly or too gamey (mostly Japanese games do this). They want grounded stories and basically only boring westernized settings. Imagine being so boring you can't go back to playing games like Blasto or Jersey Devil because they're not up to "modern standards". They demand everything be remade. Fucking gross.

Where does this image come from? I've seen it posted quite often.

IIRC it's a phone wallpaper from the early '00s in Japan, I scanned that pic from a magazine advertising it and I've never seen a larger version of it

this. modern RE is superior.

By having something between ps1 and ps2 model quality and performance issues the original didn't have, arguably. Although the models themselves are still pretty well-crafted all things considered.

I'm talking about MHX, btw.

REmake looks awful. It's a generic dark mansion.

>but within six years it was considered a messy laughing stock and most fans of the series can't respect it as anything other than a Tommy Wiseau style so bad it's good game
I've been an on-and-off participant in online RE fan communities for an embarrassingly long time and no one ever looked at it this way.

Thanks residentbro

Mikami has said that the remake matches his original vision for the game, which was just held back by hardware restrictions.

Just completed the actual RE3 for the first time. Is it just me or does that one have the most bullshit bosses in the whole classic trilogy? Im sure they are far more manageable when you know that they are coming and possibly even know what exactly to use on each one but whereas for example on RE2 I never died to a single boss except the dog birkin or the final tyrant on B scenario on 4+ playthroughs, I died to every single boss in RE3 except the final nemesis form, even once to the gravedigger

hd version looks awful
original gamecube version is goddamn beautiful

Undoubtedly BASED
Fuck Boomercore trash

RE3 bosses wouldn't be so bad if the dodge worked properly when you wanted it to

idk, way too blurry imo

Both aged wonderfully. Mikami is seriously the greatest genius the vidya industry ever had.

Try playing it on actual hardware on a crt.

I guess, every single one of them feels like they are designed around the dodge mechanic but I think I pulled off the dodge once on purpose in the entire playthrough. While the most bullshit one was the clocktower fight with nemesis id say the one where I felt like the game was at its shittiest was the penultimate fight where the forced cutscene "teaches" you how jill dodges nemesis' attack and nemesis ends up damaging himself by breaking the acid valve and I kept trying to replicate it in game and it was literally impossible as if the dodge itself was functional in the first place. Then I just shot him to death and I think I accidentally once somehow triggered one of the valves, either with a grenade launcher AOE or nemesis himself did it somehow in the process of slumping down

Also I have absolutely no idea what the fuck have they done in the remake now that ive played the original, I held off on buying the remake before completing the original and now im doubting if ill buy the remake at all. How the fuck could they possibly cut the clocktower when its probably the biggest single area in RE3 that isnt the city streets? It felt comparable to the dead factory in terms of size and it made sense progression wise to go from this huge streets section that takes 50% of the game into this gauntlet of smaller areas (clocktower, hospital, park, dead factory)

Also I think some of the criticism towards this game about being an RE2 "asset flip" or something is completely overblown because youre in the RPD for like 15 minutes. While I do think RE2 is the far better game its complete horseshit how people are excusing the remake for being a low effort cashgrab because RE3 definitely wasnt some expansion pack to RE2

Yas Forums hates RE1 remake now.

>game I play GOOD
>game you play BAD

>they even kept in the grenade glitch
based

Too many remakes make people start to hate all remakes. Even the good ones. I can't completely disagree that we'd be better off without them.

I wish they didn't remaster games from two generations ago. Really sick of zoomers "playing" these games on modern hardware and then considering themselves on the same level as someone who played this on the gamecube.

no its the paid shill or others. same thing happened with star wars on Yas Forums. people suddenly starting hating on the original trilogy after it was confirmed the new trilogy was a massive failure.

I never understood people who say the remake replaces the original and why you’d even want a remake that does that in the first place. I’ll take two great games to replay over just one

its probably the one guy spamming, would explain why he keeps saying REmake was dark in every other comment. i mean it was dark as an abandoned mansion would be but i could always see well enough

If that mansion is generic then I want to know more of these generic dark mansions you're talking about because it's fucking awesome.

>>game I play GOOD
>>game you play BAD

Ahh, zoomies trying to slowly dismantle the love for the original games just in time for the re7 apologists to swoop in when re8 is revealed to be another Ethan FPS cinematic experience (with unskipable cutscenes).

RE1R and RE4 will always be the peak of the series. Also, has anyone tried that AI upscaling for the re1r backgrounds yet? Surely there must be a way to mod that in, and it would probably look drop dead gorgeous.

I felt the same way when the REmake came out on Gamecube.

Attached: 324sd.png (484x484, 187.9K)

This MUST be bait

Even for a Resident Evil thread this one was ruined insanely fast.

What? REmake is just a fancy version of RE1’s Arranged mode, and that’s the absolute best kind of remake. It doesn’t invalidate the original at all. Both have their merits and both are designed to perfection. RE1’s cheesy story improves the game and makes it more memorable. Would you rather something like RE3 where the only memorable things about the story are the setpieces it takes place in?

>RE1R and RE4 will always be the peak of the series.
This.

Attached: jill.jpg (1125x1703, 88.52K)

So? They still made RE1 the absolute best they could, it’s like saying the PS1 is a bad console because the PS2 is more powerful than it

Dude, you can make a normal thread to discuss the game.
Still great in everything EXCEPT the voice acting.
Shit taste plebs need not reply.

B movie voice acting is kino

You probably prefer a rainbow flag too because it has "vibrant colors", you fucking fag.

This is by far the most contrary fucking thread I've seen in 15 years on Yas Forums.

Well done. Seriously.

5 is better than 4.

REmake is the better game in almost everyway except for the fact that you can't get decapitated in it. Fuck Japan and fuck their censorship

the city streets segment in RE3make was so fucking disappointing, so many iconic (to me anyway) locations are just gone, i think the only area i recognized was that place with the chalk drawings on the ground which was the only thing to make that area stand out. no zombie horde stairway with the shotgun+lighter oil, no meeting up with brad in the bar (nemesis himself having fuck all buildup is retarded), no hallway with the roped door with cop zombies busting through the barrier, warehouse with Dario turned into a 10 second walk and talk segment with nothing to find inside, etc
at least the hospital and NEST 2 being good made up for it a little

Yikes

REmake is a good game, it just needs some work on voice acting, animations, graphics, audio mixing and syncing, janky cutscenes, and smooth gameplay.
