The rejection of Final Fantasy IX by general audiences is the direct reason why Final Fantasy as a series died.

Anyone who said "eww big-headed characters and furries" when this game came out are the reason why the series is in the state it's currently in.

I basically agree. FF IX was a masterpiece and the true ending of the real FF franchise

I remember when I thought Chrono Cross would be the peak of Square retardation, good times

FF has never been alive in the first place.
It died after the second game when the original team disbanded, it was a stillborn franchise at best, whose only real identity has always been mimicking other franchises.

very cool, user

Sadly it's true.At the time the general consensus was that IX was kiddy and a downgrade from VII and VIII. Most people didn't even give it a chance.

Dragon Quest was always better

is the switch port any good
>inb4 just pirate on pc

X was better and the true final swan song of the series.

I feel like the use of icon artstyle really helped the fucked up events that take place feel even more fucked up.
I mean, kefka did like...one genocide tops. i think the queen gets away with 2, and nothing so mundane as poison, she sets an army to wipe out on group, then has odin nuke the refugees and other group in one fell swoop.

And all of that because she was racist.

God just thinking about it is haunting. easily the most messed up part of the game and a highlight for sure.

>sees your post
>deletes IX from your pc
that'll teach the gaijin

Funny you say that because furries are the only people talking about this garbage game these days

I always hear FFIX has bad load times. Are they really as bad as they say? I'm interested in giving this game a go.
Good taste by the way

X does a lot of the same shit that XIII gets dragged for. Especially in terms of dungeon design and that piss poor excuse for an open world area just being a single field. First release of it was even missing the majority of the endgame super bosses.

>I always hear FFIX has bad load times
Do you plan to play it on a PS1?

Yes and I'm not sure I could compromise on that since that is the only version I have.

FFIX is my favorite FF (except steiner, fuck steiner)

The fools, now we will never get HD rat wife :(

OP conveniently ignoring that X and XII are both fantastic games, and his precious chibi-style showed up again in Crystal Chronicles

whats wrong with steiner faggot

The last FF game that really felt special, and I say this as someone who played X first. You can truly feel the love and passion behind IX

>not liking based steiner
What the fuck? Quina and Amarant were hands down the worst characters and even then they're just fine

At least Quina was kinda funny how non essential they were to the party. I liked how they kept accidentally ending up with the party. I think even Zidane is like "Dafuq is this thing doing with us again?" at one point.

Amarant is absolute trash though.

Although imo X and VII were better, I will agree that SE's pursuit of realistic graphics has ruined the series.

FF10 is decent and a Japanese fan favorite

FF11 is alright (but I'm not an MMO guy)

FF13 is decent and I put it slightly higher than 10

FF15 is MOSTLY good but has extremely questionable decision making

Are you sure about that?

Also wondering this

Played the fuck out of the PS1 version but couldn't beat Ozma back then. I want to pick the switch version to play from my bed.

But yes IX is a true masterpiece.

FF13 is an awful game

>FF10 and FF13 have things in common
GEE IT'S LIKE THE DIRECTOR AND THE PRODUCER WERE THE SAME PEOPLE OR SOMETHING?

So far that sounds like a positive thing given how games like FF8 and FF12 botched things up BIG time. FF14 being the worst offender of this because it was a shit game (no opinion on ARR)

switch version is okay, it just has a really ugly UI and font

modded version of the PC version is easily the definitive version, but switch is totally fine if you want portability and can put up with the ugly UI

>steal your shit
>touch your princess ass

Based Zidane.

FF12 was a better game than 10 in every way and was rated as one of the top 3 FF games on meta. Don't you have more balls to fondle in temples in FF10 instead of spouting this shit?

If it was an awful game, it would have gone the way of FF12

>Be FF12
>incomplete offline MMo
>Have to overhaul combat and gameplay in IZJS
>Don't get this game in the states for another 10 years
>FF12 Fortress is cancelled due to lack of demand and rising costs
>Nobody cares about it outside of the "IVALICE!!!" crew

Again, how is FF12 the better game? FF10 and FF13 kick it's ass six ways to sunday

>Again, how is FF12 the better game?
Because it's actually a game, not an interactive movie experience. FF10 doesn't even have a single dungeon.

>is an actual game
>Incomplete offline MMO

Pick one nostalgiafag.

FF9 has one of the worst art styles I have seen in any piece of media it deserved to die

because X did it better

The only problems with the ports are visual, and they aren't exclusive to the Switch version:
>downgraded UI because it's designed to work on iOS port
>FF9 Issues: models look fine but most of the backgrounds look blurry as they lost the original files and they don't have the big brains in SE to know how to fix it (People who say get it on PC mainly say it so you can get the mod which upgrades the background images)
That's it really. They've added cheats to it just like with the other ports, but you can just ignore them. The fast forward one is nice though for both grinding or if you want to try and do the Excalibur 2 challenge.

Name one thing about the game that was incomplete.

FFXII has twice the content as X you fucking moron

IX isn't good, it tries so hard to ape older FF games, together with a fucking terrible combat system and a story that just keeps getting worse the more you go on.

>FF10 doesn't even have a single dungeon.
Every single temple is a dungeon.
Omega ruins are a dungeon.

The entirety of the combat and the gameplay is incomplete. See image of all part of the shit they had to add into the IZJS (which later on became the Zodiac Age) to fix all the major issues

There is actually more listed here:
finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XII_version_differences

Too much of FF12's game is basically "Oops, we fucked up! Time to fix shit!"

IZJS aka Zodiac Age is pretty much a remake at this point.

Then FFX also incomplete because of the international version they added not even a year later

>Every single temple is a dungeon.

Attached: 1585694268100.jpg (450x500, 38.31K)

The International versions only add just a bit more new content. They DON'T OVERHAUL THE DAME GAME!

The original FF10 (and FF13) are still complete games by comparison.

I think FFX was the best, and 13 was alright and finishable with good characters. 7, 8, 9 have aged like milk. I hated 12 with a passion. I didn't care for any of the non 3D ones except maybe 4.

Also, 14 is probably the best MMO right now.

That's my two cents on FF, who else agree or wanna fight

Which version of X is better? HD or original?

Adding new features to a game doesn't mean the original is incomplete. The content in the game remained the same too. There are no new bosses compared to FF10 which added a ton of them in awkward areas because they knew the content in this game was pretty much abysmal.

wow

its the BOTW logic
who knew FF10 started that!

GUYS
ALL TEMPLES ARE DUNGEONS!
HAHAAHAHAHHAAHAHHA
REDDDDDDDDDDDIT!

some of the art is a bit mangled, which I guess you can fix on the PC, but it's a good package and looks nice graphically

viii was the best out of those 3, made for intellectual people... ix was for furries and vii was for faggots

>Anyone who said "eww big-headed characters and furries" when this game came out
nobody was saying that when the game came out. the only reason ff9 underperformed commercially is because it was a ps1 game that came out during the ps2's launch cycle.

Final Fantasy fans don't want a well-rounded story. They want edgy characters, ham-fisted political themes and anime tropes. IX failed because it tried too hard to tell a delightful story which gradually becomes dark.

>Final Fantasy fans don't want a well-rounded story
But X has that and people generally liked it?

It really depresses me to think that we'll never again have an industry where one of the biggest names can put out massive RPGs that are so drastically different from each other within only a year or two.

the problem is that square's old policy of two years to make a game made people quickly get burnt out and leave the company, causing a major talent drain over time. prime squaresoft's output was never sustainable in the long run.

>well-rounded story
>FFX

Attached: 1585695029893.jpg (398x376, 36.95K)

I still can't believe that this exists. Like how did Square and/or Nintendo get the idea to do this

Attached: SuperMarioRPGSNESCoverArtUS.jpg.jpg (380x263, 30.97K)

The game

FFXII is a longer game with much more content than X. Rabanastre alone is bigger than half of Spira's world, and it isn't a glorified hallway either.

The aesthetics aren't what killed Final Fantasy. FF died when it stopped being turn-based.
