Using only logic, not morals, explain why pirating games is wrong

In modern times, it's not. the main source of profits are whales and superwhales, that's why games are made to suit them. They don't give a fuck about the average person buying a 60 game and zero mtx. Might as well pirate the game too at that point
A different point is the fact that ultra poorfags wouldn't buy the game anyway so there is no lost profit from them
Someone put effort into creating the digital product. Effort deserves compensation.
to add, I want to say FUCK WHALES. The dlc and mtx cancer has spread to other industries. Speed limit raising dlc from bmw, power and 10% extra range mtx for tesla, Kosher Tribe Motorcycles' DLC codes to activate equipment that was already put on the bike from factory.
You're a person playing the game without buying it. If you didn't have free access to the game, you'd have to purchase it, resulting in loss of a sale
what the FUCK does it have to do with pirates??? Pirates stole shit!!!
>year of our lord 2020
>pay piggies still mad at pirate chads
pathetic
some countries like the netherlands just levy a smol tax on any media storage device because you're going to pirate and copy for personal use anyway. In Dutch it's thuiskopieheffing (home copy ''tax'')
You wouldnt download a car, therefore you shouldnt pirate
.... I can't
>You wouldn't download a car
I would if I could
>what the FUCK does it have to do with pirates
you haven't seen this aged-like-milk memery?
Logically, there are instances of games that require compensation to be made.
Game devs are usually contracted to make games though, which means they already get paid. You're only "taking" money from publishers who get tens to hundreds of millions of dollars from the games.
>loss of a sale
but the sale was never going to happen. I would never buy the game, but for free, I may decide to play it, if not for free, I'd be perfectly fine not playing it.
>"Distributing a product that is of lesser value than the genuine product"
It IS the genuine product, and is of identical quality.
Pirating is fine if
>Not available where you live
>Want to test it
>Already own it
>Basically out of circulation
>Maybe if you really dislike the devs?
But money speaks user, theres a reason why so many series are dead and others are basically zombies
video game pirates are almost always poor/children
>implying you can't find the stl files for a complete jag E type
apply yourself
Is piracy a sin?
>Don't use morals to explain why something is wrong
Yes, you can make your own bicycle without the need for purchasing one.
>g
because the business model is the authors of the material make money by selling copies of their original product.
why do people get so angry over pirating videogames
no one really cares if people pirates anime, movie, books and musics
Using only logic, not morals, explain why rape is wrong
>Murder: Kills the victim
>Rape: Doesn't kill the victim
Here, have a song to explain why copying is not theft
youtube.com
I mean most of us pirate and i'm not going to stop doing it or anything but you know, i'm not gonna say some dumb shit like i'm somehow helping the devs
People like to act otherwise but morals ARE logic.
You don't go around not murdering people because a god told you to or some shit, you do it because it would lead to your own downfall if it were found out so logically it is sensible to not do so if you want to survive.
Being murdered yourself isn't even the reason, in other words. Being cast out is a far worse prospect since you are not capable of doing everything yourself. You don't even need to fear for direct retribution because indirect in most cases will be worse.
That said, in the case of piracy the logic says it isn't bad because it's actually better for you - if you have a product worth buying to begin with. Only those who make shit and know they're making shit worry about piracy.
>Game devs are usually contracted to make games though
This is only true for really mainstream big budget AAA games, though. Series like Call of Duty or FIFA. In most cases developers approach publishers, not the other way around.
You literally make less money as a developer because a fraction of people who pirated it could have bought your game instead. It is simple, why you keep making threads like this.
lmao
>not going outside on a sunny day and copying a 3k carbon fiber race bike endlessly to sell to tour de france larpers
>muh merchants muh brick and mortar
lmao m8
That is the most retarded one yet. You violate someone. When you copy software you just copy sequence of bits and run them on your machine. Closest you your comparison would be taking a picture of someone and jizzing on it
The reason there's so much hate against piracy on Yas Forums is because this place is full of shills and indie game devs.
I'm also deving my own dream game but I don't give a shit if anyone pirates it. I'm making it cuz I want to play it, being able to sell some copies would be just a plus.
>It IS the genuine product, and is of identical quality.
no it isn't if it requires a crack and it can't download genuine updates
If I could download a car, I would do it right now
post rape life probably still has a lower quality of life resulting in reduced lifetime tax income
>"Why do i have to pay for a product, why can't everything just be free? I don't get it."
>no one really cares if people pirates anime, movie, books and musics
Some people care a lot, and it's pretty funny
Isn't "wrong" a moral concept?
>Buy equipment
>Buy metal
>Spend 3 weeks shaping and building your own bicycle
"NOOOO YOU CAN'T DO THAT, IT'S ILLEGAL!!"
Imagine if everyone did that argument
If you are pisspoor I would set my priorities elsewhere
when games are shipped fully tested and complete there will be no need to beta test via torrent.
fuck paying to beta test shit.
Hey ESL poster, it's not counterfeiting, it's copyright infringement.
On this note, in court it cannot be called piracy, theft, stealing, or any other crime to misrepresent it.
...
Funny thing is, Yas Forums used to be pro-piracy, with torrents being shared constantly on the front page
Now this place is infested with actual shills and coonsoomer soibois, it's disgusting
>Effort deserves compensation
no
That's not what you're doing though.
Imagine them poor niggas calling themself priates and Chad XD absolute beta male
I mean is it really worth it?yesterday I bought a key for 2$ for GRIP a really cool game ,is pirating worth it for this?I would pirate 30$+ games but I have so many games to play and so many cheap good games I could buy that I dont see the point.
Last box should have the seller making the paying customer sign a EULA stating they're only paying for the license to ride the bike and not the bike itself
How much do you get paid to shill on Yas Forums?
Can you get me a job, too
I can pretend to fit in while encouraging blind consuming and defending greedy mega-corporations
yes, you and I would. that doesn't mean many bottom feeders won't. Where I live the people earning between 34k and 40k annually actually have less money post tax because the ones earning just 10 euros below 34k get tons of gubment grants for health insurance and rent payments.
Many people just want enough to be able to afford a living and little else.
Creating the original copy takes time and money. While there are other ways to fund your game than one time purchase lifetime licenses, many of them are detrimental to the game itself (in-game ads, microtransactions etc.).
>but the developers already got paid who cares about the publishers
This still hurts developers, when their next game won't get published because the previous sold poorly. If publishers weren't necessary, developers would self-fund and then piracy would hurt them directly.
Still, piracy shouldn't be likened to physical theft, it's a different sort of crime.
As a side note, this is a more difficult topic than it seems. The negative effects of piracy are greatly exaggerated, and there are positives like word of mouth from people who wouldn't buy the game even if they couldn't pirate it, and some studies suggest that the positives outweigh the negatives. Despite this, if piracy was actually legal and everyone did it, it'd obviously crash the industry.

Piracy is a crime.
>pirate books
>k
>pirate movies/tv-series/anime
>k
>pirate non-game software
>k
>pirate video game
>NOOOOO YOU CAN'T DO THAT, IT'S IMMORAL!
I used to be a pirate when I was younger and didn't have money, but now I like to buy games to help support the industry that kept me sane all these years. It's not really an argument for or against piracy, just a personal thing.
Making a copy of a fucking game doesn't devalue it, it's the same fucking goddamn thing. When you SELL A COPY and pass it off as genuine, THAT is counterfeiting. COPYING a fucking game and giving it to others for free isn't.
Learn how fucking logic works.
Yeah I saw that, it's copyright infringement.
Counterfeiting can include some types of copyright and trademark infringement, but they're different crimes.
Do you understand why they're not the same, ESL-kun? It's very obvious.
This is hard to argue but also hard to dispute. Most everyone here is either a stupid neet or a low skilled wagie so they're less likely to understand how a market works.
They're right it's not piracy but regardless it's still illegal.
>loss of a sale
>but the sale was never going to happen.
Apparently it was because the subject went out of their way to take the game. They were interested enough to jump through the typical loops of piracy, but weren't willing to pay. "I would have never bought it" is an excuse to deflect accusations of theft.
The thing didn't belong to you but you took it anyway. That's a theft.
>video game board mostly cares about video games
Who'da thunk?
...
>People expect me to pay a full price for a product with literally infinite supply
>pirating
how about paying for your goods, coons?
>"please buy this bike, it costs 250 dollars"
>nah, I'll buy my own materials for less than half that cost, and make my own bike
>"STAHP STEALING MY BIKE!"
Chill * spend 30 what mins here while I'm taking a shit beta
Get a job and some kind of education and maybe you will get enough money to buy a game someday
Else I suggest set your priorities different and stop trying to find ways why life is unfair to you and others get everything for free, it's not them, just you sucking at life and you play on easy
I think it is still technically illegal if that design and form is patented.
Cracks actually improve the fucking game because you don't have fucking horrible DRM crippling your game.
Give it up, moralfucks. You have no arguments.
On what grounds do you make this claim? For the entirety of human history, society has functioned on the basis of compensation for effort. No one would work if it paid nothing.
It doesn't matter. If you're against pirating games, for any other reasons than supporting the industry(LOL), you shouldn't pirate ANY other type of digital products. That makes you a hypoctire.
>why do people get so angry over pirating videogames
Because pirates make HORRIBLE arguments, like the worst. They're so bad that I find myself drawn in to argue when I wouldn't otherwise. If people said "I just want free stuff and don't care", I wouldn't be bothered. I don't go to emulation threads and shame people for it.
Because games wouldn't be possible in the first place if people weren't paying for it. You're taking advantage of other people.
It's like riding the bus and finding a way to not pay the far, or going to the theater and not paying for the ticket.
Look, justified or not, as long as I don't get arrested for it, I will still continue to pirate games.
>no online
>no updates
>b-but cracks improve the game!
And what if I just wasn't going to buy the game anyway?
Why's Obelix suggesting reverse image searching himself?
Now that's an argument I deal with and understand
Where I live I make about 3k euro after tax and can afford a good life. Nothing crazy but its enough to enjoy life and have enough spare for gaming and wasting money on hearthstone and magic cards like a retard
I see your point and if I would be at that end I would pirate as well but still its a somewhat grey zone
But in a perfect world everyone could enjoy their hobby and be fine but I think pirating is fine as long it gets overused and you support the devs if you liked it, a little at least
>copy someone's recipe
>buy your own raw products
>prepare them in your own kitchen
>somehow this is stealing
>The thing didn't belong to you but you took it anyway. That's a theft.
Took a copy, left the original intact. Not theft.
Can't call it theft or liken it to theft or stealing in court.
>absolute beta male
That's some cope it I've ever seen one.
I make twice the average pay in my country and I still pirate everything. It's simply a cuck mentality to buy something you can get for free with no consequences, just to "support the company".
Who's saying other kinds of pirating are okay?
We just don't bring them up, cause this board's about video games.
>justify my actions to people on the internet
No.
Just download the updates too retard, haha
How are we supposed to explain a moral concept with logic instead of morality retard? Large scale piracy fucks developers in the ass, the smaller the better. On an individual level a single download is nothing for the creators but a lot for the pirate tho. So you will see smart pirates like myself pirating still, but doing everything in their power to convince gullible pirates not to pirate to
keep funding my games (so I can pirate). Of course except for this post.
>riding the bus and finding a way to not pay the far
>pay the far
>far
Opinion disregarded. I refuse to be preached at by people who can't spell.
>You're only "taking" money from publishers who get tens to hundreds of millions of dollars from the games.
>It's not wrong if the victim is wealthy
IF I STEAL YOUR BICYCLE YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE BUS
BUT IF I JUST COPY IT THERE'S ONE FOR EACH OF US
LISTEN TO THE SONG KIDS
COPYING IS FUN
THERE IT IS
THE FOOD ANALOGY
EVERYONE GO HOME
You know some people wouldnt steal or beat other people if it were legal right?
its called morals
Okay, fuck you then.
Expect there isn't
Only becouse you can make copys of something doesn't make it infite
If the devs don't get any money for the work they go bankrupt and hence don't create games anymore
That's why I support good devs who do good game like cdred or ubisoft..... Just kidding, not ubi
>What is theft of services
When you buy a video game you're hardly buying the disc/cartridge/internet connection, you're paying for the ability to play the game
Disgusting
That's why you will die alone and sad "Chad" enjoy your sad empty life, you are so cool though in your 12 year old mind
Reminder: every piratefag ITT is a poorfag. Stop wasting your time and go back to coomerposting
>someone didn't press the e key hard enough while typing 125 wpm, clearly he just doesn't even understand how spelling works
What is this, gamefaqs?
You aren't preparing shit.
You literally just copy the finished product.
>out of their way
>Clicked a couple buttons on his keyboard
Yeahhhh not out of my way.
>They were interested enough to jump through the typical loops of piracy, but weren't willing to pay
If you think it's jumping through hoops you're retarded
>"I would have never bought it" is an excuse to deflect accusations of theft.
I didn't steal shit, all the companies still own their precious games, I just made a copy
>What is theft of services
Thank you
someone finally said it
>It's not wrong if the victim is wealthy
This but unironically. I feel decidedly less bad for a billionaire losing money.
cringe
>every pirate is poor
classic projection as always lol
>pirating games
based
>braging about pirating games
cringe
>billion dollar company can sabotage product for a person
>not a crime
>person can copy and paste some 1s and 0s from a billion dollar company
>crime
How?
How bad or good you feel has no bearing on the act being right or wrong.
They're stealing millions and beating others despite it being illegal right now. Me pirating some video games is the least of world's problems.
Also,
>morals
Yea, companies selling me microtransactions in their neutered, ethically corrected video games surely deserve my money. Oh what a monster I am for not supporting them.
I don't know what's it like in 'murica, but in my country it's only the fat greasy "gamers" that actually spend money on vidya. Every normalfag here just pirates.
Yes, I am. I am executing specific sequence of bits(recipe) on my computer(kitchen)
not a piratefag but why anime reaction images make me so fucking mad ?Like I wanna punch this dude even tho he didnt insult me.
>but the sale was never going to happen
But this is factually incorrect.
It wouldn't happen sometimes. Usually, it would.
Piracy is harmless on a local scale and harmful on a global scale. This is why I have nothing against people pirating stuff but I think that only genuine autistic degenerates would actively promote piracy.
someone forgot about the Sony BMG Rootkit scandal
you can't explain things about the market or the law without bringing morals into it you retard.
>without using morals, explain why X is "wrong", which is a concept born from morality
I too can make up situations.
You're a person playing the game without buying it. You recommend it to another person, and the person purchase it, resulting in an extra sales. Otherwise, you wouldn't had bought it at the first place, and another person will never heard about it and convinced to purchase it.
Thanks to piracy, the game is a success.
What are slaves?
