Is the new job system worth it? Is the original game harder. I got the original game at launch, but I never started playing it till now. I double dipped and have it on PS2 and the Switch. Which one should I play? I am already pretty far on the PS2 version and I love it, and feel like if I start on the switch now, I won't go back. Plus I have heard that the OG game is harder then the switch version. Idk, lets talk about this great game.
Zodiac Age has lots of improvements, only they didn't do a great job of rebalancing so the game is easier. FFXII was never hard to begin with though, so I'd just go for the Switch version
Jack Hughes
>I rather mash buttons like FFVII.
Its the only final fantasy that said fuck you to the fat fuck fans and tried something new. I personally like programming my characters to do what I would based on circumstance. Also, its not like you can't just turn off gambits if they aren't working for you.
Also, best sound track, least gay story. game is kino.
It was the last good final fantasy. The fans hated it, so Square doubled down on the incel audience with FFXIII and XV. Its a shame really. The story of FFXII was flawed, but it was way better then what most video games ever got.
Samuel Taylor
I am pretty far on the PS2. I think I will just beat it. Then I will replay it on the switch. Is that crazy?
Chase Ward
i think final fantasy 12 was when they started to really push their combat system, and you can see the development between what they were doing there to what they're doing today. i haven't played zodiac but a friend of mine has and really liked it, and i really liked the second one. i think the biggest draw for me about zodiac is they gave you the ability to fast forward time, so when you're grinding in the desert you can do it a bit more quickly, even though on my last playthrough i just used 2x speed on my emulator. i also want fran to sit on my face until i die.
Evan Jackson
sorry, i meant to say i really liked the original.
Owen Martin
not really, pretty sure Zodiac Age has a fast mode.
Benjamin Wilson
I’m not gut enough for FFXII, I’m just 6 hours in and I’m burning through potions in record speed, I spend all my Gil for em.
Julian Edwards
It does, it has a x2 and x4 speed option.
Carter Perry
they could've made less need for grinding. but I guess that would've taken effort.
Daniel Lopez
From what I understand the class system adds nothing, it just takes away a good chunk of the license board. It only limits your options and it's something you could do yourself in the base version e.g. by just not getting high tier magic skills for your warrior dude. And you have to decide on it early on, in a game that's dozens of hours long. If you're later unhappy with the class, you won't have the option to change and you won't want to start over either after having invested several hours.
That said, FFXII is absolutely fucking terrible. Garbage with no redeeming factors. The main improvement of the Zodiac edition is that it adds a speed up button, because the devs understand people will still play this dogshit because of the Final Fantasy pedigree, but they will want to get it over with as fast as fucking possible.
Jackson Russell
ZA on PC for mods (outfits, custom grid, etc).
Henry Russell
The remaster breaks the difficulty, making it ridiculously easy. It's also the original, by de facto the correct version of anything to play.
Original emulates great. Remaster is an overpriced denuvo'd steam game that just funds further SE trash like FF7R. Not much to debate from where I'm standing.
The story was fine, though with some issues. The problem was that the combat was half-baked. If you're going to go with RTWP combat I'm necessarily going to have to compare it to other RTWP games like Baldur's Gate or Dragon Age and FFXII's combat is far worse than both of those.
Jonathan Hill
4x speed is a fucking God send for farming and getting some of the loot for some weapons.
Jonathan Ramirez
should've allowed you to change classes but at a penalty. like V did. I started a new game at least 5 times because most of the classes are garbage. also hated how you can't access certain skills unless you waste points on skills that are adjacent. why they always do this is beyond me.
Hunter Edwards
how come you're not into ff7r
Landon Carter
Switch or PC remaster guys? Apparently the Switch (and Xbox) versions got even more content than the PS4/PC releases.
Ryder Ortiz
>the great debate: the original game or the HD remaster with quality of life improvements and extra content
Colton Perez
because it's actually the best one, the story is great, the gameplay was literally revolutionary to the genre, the world building is extensive and fantastical and the actual world design is brilliant too.
Cameron Carter
it should, penelo's one piece is hot, dem knee's.
Henry Reed
You can change classes in the switch and xbone version I thought?
Liam Morales
Zodiac age on switch and PC (with a mod) does allow you to change your classes and respec.
Ian Flores
>the gameplay was literally revolutionary to the genre In what fucking universe? Is the "genre" being JRPGS? Because WRPGs had been using RTWP for quite a while, and way more successfully.
Kayden Reed
How much do you care about graphics over content? If 60 fps and improved textures matter a lot to you go for PC, otherwise Switch which indeed has the most features
Daniel Davis
>Oh and a completely different battle progression system that makes the game easier.
Ryan Long
I always see people saying the best part of IZJS was that you can keep looting chests or something and eventually get special weapons. what a weird thing to praise. that's like people who praised the fact you could take selfies in wind waker HD and thought that was the best new addition. new difficulty mode? easier to play music? nah, fuck all that. this tangential thing is the most important new addition!
Luke Ortiz
>RTWP The gambit system is legit and I have not seen anything like it in any RPG.
Isaiah Collins
That's why you plan your builds ahead meticulously. example, my last characters last playthrough.
I Always use all 12 jobs, you can completely break the game doing an any job anyone run though.
Isaac Harris
Don't give a shit about graphics for an old game like this. I'll go with Switch. Thanks.
Jaxon Brown
PC has pretty good mod support, including custom license boards. You can play with the original PS2 board if you want.
Jordan Hughes
The only Final Fantasy that isn't some embarassing muh power of friendship anime crap fuck these writers that write like 14 year old autists
This game is pure kino
Cameron Sanders
what even was the story? I got several hours in and Basch, who's supposed to be a major character, only had a line or two of dialogue every 12 hours.
Jaxon Richardson
I essentially only play JRPG's and WRPG's and nothing has been as good as the gambit system.
Hunter Gonzalez
>plan your builds meticulously
so you look up a walkthrough. no fucking thanks. anything that expects me to plan this far ahead and inch over some lengthy FAQ isn't worth it. Square has done it much better in the past which makes it especially egregious. I'd be fine if they tried something vastly different and it didn't quite turn out, but the fact they retreaded old ideas, and handled them worse is frustrating.
Lincoln Russell
>nothing has been good at letting the game play itself for me Holy shit kill yourself
Julian Hall
Gambit system was terrible. The fact you have to BUY commands at a shop was just pants on head retarded. No one needs all this level of micromanaging.
You may be right, but it's still my favorite FF along with FF1.
Eli Roberts
A war of states with the vast majority of the story taking place outside of the playable characters adventures with the exception of ashe. Ashe is the most important character story wise, the rest are all support roles, interesting personalities to add some flavor and vann is just a street kid who's on a adventure, that's why we play it through his eyes, to him it's this awe inspiring grand adventure, the main characters of the story are far to serious to be the perspective and the focus.
Logan Johnson
how is it not the best way to play, the battle's are faster, you can perform multiple tasks simultaneously , manual control can be taken at any time for particularly complicated situations
Henry Long
Buying them was retarded, all of them should have been available from the start. The micromanagement didn't go far enough, should have been gambits with in the gambits.
Isaac Ward
It'll be my first time playing it so I don't even know what that means, but thanks
Nathan Turner
You don't need to plan shit in Zodiac Age. The fact that they give you two classes pretty much annihilates any need to think of how to make your character. You'll stomp shit through sheer force.
Samuel Bell
>how is it not the best way to play, the battle's are faster, you can perform multiple tasks simultaneously , manual control can be taken at any time for particularly complicated situations It's the best way to play FFXII's combat because it's braindead to begin with. The problem is that the combat is shallow and bad at a basic level even without the gambit system.
Easton Lee
With a plan you can stomp even harder, like a 30 minute yiazmat. that set up is not for a 30 minute yiazmat.
Adam Ortiz
the story and worldbuilding is fucking amazing, far, far above any other final fantasy, it almost feels more like a western rpg of old the attention to detail is so maniacal. Also the story happens to be one o the few in which characters do stuff that makes sense, they generally have a reason to be where they are. I think the reason many don't like it is that the story is very different from any other inal fantasy or jrpgs in general, it's more in line with stuff like game of thrones and requires you to know a lot of the history of the setting to get exactly what they are talking about. It's the kind of plot that's much better on second playthough, which is hard to do on a long ass jrpg
Joseph Peterson
Of course, but it's not necessary. I like my difficulty to be high enough where planning a good party will help you win, not just win faster.
Camden Cox
it's literally same as every fucking FF but with the option to substantially improve the gameplay with the gambit system, so is all FF braindead? you don't actually like the games and you just like to shit up threads with your 80IQ opinions?
Aaron Lopez
The main problem with the game is the lack of people of color, which is what keeps me from playing most of the final fantasy games and JRPG's in general.
Joseph Murphy
This is very true, it's a game that requires 2 play-throughs , the story early on is throwing out names, places, times ect that won't mean anything to you until you've learned more about the world and on the second playthrough it all just clicks.
