This is an exceptional FPS game and a breathe of fresh air to the industry. AAA budget with a niche development philosophy. It's been three weeks and I've yet to see any truly valid criticism of this game.

>DOOM was never about ammo management!
DOOM 1 and 2 were nothing but ammo management. Running out of ammo was always an issue, which was what ensured that the player couldn't speed through the entire game with only the plasma gun or the super shotgun. The only difference now is that instead of having to backtrack and find a box of bullets laying around somewhere you can just chainsaw an imp and then get back into the action.

>I should be allowed to choose what weapons I use!
Since when? The classic games absolutely never allowed unfettered usage of your arsenal. Each weapon had a purpose, regulated by its utility and ammunition reserve. Various situations demanded the use of certain weapons over others and using the wrong one would get yourself killed, just like DOOM Eternal. DOOM 2016 is the one that screwed up this formula by just saying "fuck it, use whatever you want".

>I don't want to do a QTE every 10 seconds!
Videogames and pornography have decimated your dopamine receptors and exacerbated your ADD.

Only downside seems to be the tone setting and story, just being 'different' to '16 and other Dooms.
I'm still in the middle of other playthroughs of other games but this is likely the one I'll grab next.

user, your completely right.
Eternal is the best FPS of the last decade easily

Didn't play it but doesn't this game get shit on for awful platforming?

Kind of. It's an overreaction. It's squarely mediocre but is a nice buffer between arena's

It seems like blatant "platforms" and such with little effort to make it look like part of the environment. They mainly seem to replace the walking in-betwen each arena.
Which really seems like some sort of modern convention so I guess it's avoidable; too many people don't have the restraint via a 'pause' button to slim down the gameplay.

**UNavoidable

The "buffer between arena's" statement is pretty accurate. I loved 2016 but it was one of those games I could only play in short two hour bursts because it was just arena after arena. The platforming helps break this up and allows you to play the game for longer periods with out getting burnt out on what is essentially the exact same "gameplay loop" (god help me)

>it lets you play for longer by not playing the game and playing jump-dash simulator instead
my only hope for the really out of place "jump to 3 coffins suspended in midair for 0 reason" was just to get some cooler level design in

>looking up shooters from the past decade
I mean I liked Bad Company 2 a lot but otherwise good fucking lord, yeah there's no competition here.
How's Titanfall 2?

>titanfall 2
Really wanna play that, heard nothing but great things about the campaign

Taking chunks off of hell knights legs with the shotgun is great. I just bought this stupid game and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

Zoomers don’t understand how to criticize.

I just wanted to play another classic-style FPS and what I got was an action game with hotkey memorization and shooting elements.

It's a good game, just not what I wanted. They should've just improved on everything from doom 2016 and not change it.

Pathetic shill thread. Eternal is shit, 2016 was significantly better in every way.

Pathetic shitpost

the campaign is short but great

I just beat it tonight and I gotta say, it's an instant classic. However, much like Doom is a better game than Doom II, I think overall I like 2016 more than Eternal. The one big flaw Eternal has is the Marauder. He would have made a cool boss encounter, especially if they built his character up a little more. As a recurring enemy they don't work though. It was never explained who exactly they were, why sentinels would be hanging with demons, and why they hate Doom Slayer so much. And worse every time they pop up in combat, they completely ruin the flow of the game. No longer can you bounce around ripping and tearing, you've gotta slow down, and get ready to rapidly switch between super shotty and ballista to keep him staggered. He's the only enemy in the game were exactly one strategy works, and it's a tedious one. Other than that my complaints are minor. I like the platforming even.

Again I couldn't finish the game and till now forgot it exist. Same with Doom 2016 nearing the end I just lose complete interest.

I would not know op.
In the time I waited for the physical version to arrive I got to play as the mastermind twice in RE3.
I may have to cancel, I guess Todd does not want my money.
Fucking Bethesda.

You're right. But glory kills and the chainsaw are not good. Only shills defend them.

The marauders background is explained in his Codex entry, which you unlock instantly after you first kill him. He only appears five or six times throughout the whole campaign and he very deliberatively spawns after you've killed most of the baddies so you can solely focus on him. His strategy is pretty braindead, but apparently even it was sufficient enough to filter the majority of Yas Forums.

Regardless, I understand your complaints and I can understand why some people wouldn't like that portions of the game.

Just cancel and buy digital copy.

They're fine. They give you a moment of reprieve during the action to plan out your next move. Sometimes they'll give you the opportunity to evade certain death.

>It's been three weeks and I've yet to see any truly valid criticism of this game.
The platforming isn't as tight as it could be, and is a bit fiddly and arbitrary in places. I understand it's purpose in breaking up combat sequences, but it doesn't necessarily have a place in a game like this. I didn't find it offensive though.

Marauders, while manageable once you know the trick to them, drag the game to a screeching halt because they break the rules for every other encounter - and often break their own rules without warning because of how fiddly their AI is.

Archviles have too much of a tendency to hide in large arena's and should be highlighted through terrain in a similar way to Cyberdemons, they're already plenty tanky on their own

There was an obvious overhaul of the story midway or late into the development of the game. Your encounter with the UAC on Phobos makes no sense. Why are there still living, human employees of the UAC? Why are they surprised corporate is telling them to let the demons in? These are events that would happen far sooner in the demonic invasion. By this point earth has been under attack for literally years and human hold outs are all but wiped out beyond a few safe zones. Furthermore, many humans escaped earth into space via arks - if the UAC had control of the BFG-1000 all this time, why weren't they shooting at those arks? Or at the ARC bases/factories?

They made Doomguy speak at one point in a flashback.

Attached: 10c.jpg (489x735, 62.57K)

The aGony devs were shilling the game on their Twitter accounts.

Gladiator should have been a normal enemy, Marauder should have been a one and done boss fight.

>Just cancel and buy digital copy.
Nah, I was honestly riding the hype and it sucks because it is legit the only game I have pre-order since Halo 3, otherwise I could had waited for the Summer Sale.

Fuck Todd's company, the one time I do not pirate first or wait for a sale and this is what I get, at least Capcom launched a demo before I got RE3

I get this is what I deserve for trying to be a coomsumer, reminds me why I am such a jaded fuck. Enjoy your crappy generic, story driven fps, it is literally Bulletstorm but with retarded mechanics. I hope Id goes under before they do something on par with Youngblood but with Doom.

>I just wanted to play another classic-style FPS
Try buying a game designed to be a classic style FPS then you fucking moron

Those are reasonable complaints. I don't find them to be a problem but I understand why some would.

Not sure about the storyline. If anything I wish there was less of it. "Demons are invading Earth, you gotta stop them!" should ideally be the only story a DOOM game has. Regardless, the story doesn't really matter, it's just there to give context to the things you're shooting at.

Come now, don't get frustrated.

The new enemy weakpoints trivialize enemies that should be much tougher. Arachnotrons, Cacodemons, and Revenents are hardly more threatening that an imp in Eternal. That certainly wasn't true in 2016 where the heavies actually felt like a threat. And most of the new enemies are push overs as well, whiplashes, carcasses, prowlers, and dread knights are all painfully easy to beat.

The difficulty in dealing with the weak points is having to stop in the middle of the fray to take out an arachnotron's turret while imps are clawing at your ass. I agree that the revenants are a bit underpowered but they're certainly not any weaker than they were in 2016 (the game where you just click everything to death at a somewhat leisurely pace).

The devs said going from 2016 to Eternal would like getting a faster racecar. I don't they delivered on that promise all the way. Moving around is better, but the weapons feel weak compared to 2016. There are very few chances to use big weapons like the BFG and crucible. Going from the gauss cannon in 2016 to the ballista in Eternal especially feels like a downgrade. It's a great game and I get why they nerfed some things, but it is a little disappointing.

Why do people call it Zoom Eternal? Since when did zoomers care about Doom?

a bunch of retards still think being contrarian makes them have a cool unique personality and its le funny trolling

Every weapon aside from the plasma gun, railgun, and chaingun was significantly buffed in eternal. Have you ever used the lock on burst? Shit's retard.

isnt this the game that 30 year old incels claim is hardcore but actually has video tutorials overlayed during boss fights

Because it allowed zoomers to discover doom, as well as having a bunch of stupid shit that caters towards zoomers.

>It's been three weeks and I've yet to see any truly valid criticism of this game.
I have yet to see one person give a halfway decent argument on why the reduce ammo and chainsaw makes the game more fun

I doubt zoomers would care that much about things that are continuing off of old stuff. Why do you think the new Star Wars movies' merchandise didn't sell well among kids? Have you ever heard of a zoomer going to see Ghostbusters 2016?

>Running out of ammo was always an issue
What the fuck? It's not unless you're playing on nightmare

There used be a pretty high budget star wars show on cartoon network. Seems like it would be somewhat popular among teenagers. Have you ever heard of a ghostbusters fan going to see 2016 and liking it?

Without the video tutorials I'm not sure if a relatively large amount of Yas Forums could've finished the game. The super shotgun + ballista swap seemed like a revelation to a lot of the anons here when it shows you using a super shotgun on him in the tutorial demonstration.

The multiplayer is shit. The story is really REALLY shit. The gameplay is pretty good.

Ultimately it's the best $20 game i ever spent $60 on

Attached: 1586103602799.jpg (634x571, 86K)

For the reasons described in the OP.

You're misremembering the game if you think ammunition was abundant in DOOM 2. You had enough to keep you going, but not much more than that.

>For the reasons described in the OP.
incorrect.

Good argument!

I agree on that point, the multiplayer is shit. Should've brought back the deathmatch from 2016. Would've been really fun with the new mobility options.

The stuff in the op is all shit I've seen before, and none of it is truly valid.

Why is it not truly valid.

a 20 second cool down on a chainsaw negates any purpose behind ammo management and it adds a boring step to combat that slows down the game. Essentially it acts as a reload/stamina management system in a game that's not supposed to have either.
Even without reduced ammo there is plenty of incentive to switch weapons.

>Your encounter with the UAC on Phobos makes no sense.
Yea and now that you mention it the whole 'hell' thing and alien angels and super powerful mechs walking everywhere makes no sense either! It's almost as if it's deliberately ridiculous and someone at id just thought It'd be cool to shoot a giant hole into Mars with a massive bfg.

Attached: 1586174938766.jpg (387x420, 47.67K)

>it adds a boring step to combat that slows down the game
No more than it does to have to go back to a previous location and scrounge for ammunition before you move on. Like it or not, this is the most efficient method of distributing resources that isn't terribly boring (DOOM 1 and 2) or trivially easy (DOOM 2016).

>Yea and now that you mention it the whole 'hell' thing and alien angels and super powerful mechs walking everywhere makes no sense either!
Are you implying because the game has hell and demons in it means it gives you liberty to do any and everything to the setting?

Why wouldn't you have the liberty to do so?

The reason why it was "trivial easy" in 2016 is because you have 4 sources of ammo. If you took away 2 of them you get your "non trivial" ammo.

Of course, as long as it fits the theme of the game.

>Like it or not, this is the most efficient method of distributing resources that isn't terribly boring (DOOM 1 and 2)
That's more a criticism to any older shooter, IdSoft's engine or build or otherwise. It may be roughest with the earliest shooters, but going through the levels for resources is typically fun - and spliced with enemy encounters the whole way through.

>Your encounter with the UAC on Phobos makes no sense

That's not the UAC, it's the ARC.

Eternal was better in every way but the story was pretty dumb

It was trivially easy in DOOM 2016 because you never run out of ammo since you were always carrying a fuckton of it. If I remember correctly you could carry, what, 80 shotgun shells at a time?

The complaint that the regenerating chainsaw fuel negates any sense of ammunition management is nonsensical and betrays your previous argument about there not being enough ammunition.

>Of course, as long as it fits the theme of the game.
What about the theme of the series?

I know, I was just being hyperbolic for the sake of argument.

They say when more Master levels are coming? Feel blue balled only giving us 2 levels.

For me the chainsaw was just a "skip baron fight" button.
I can't even remember the actual fights I had with them until what, the vega level? I can't remember how far that was into the game.

DOOM never had a theme in the context of its story or lore. Even John Carmack himself has said that he doesn't give a fuck about the story in games.

Just finished it on ultra violence. Game is balanced very good. Ammo problems are only at the beginning and later when you dont manage your ammo/chainsaw. Its true you cannot pick 1 weapon and just use it 24/7. But that would be dumb anyway because the game actually needs you to switch weapons a lot. The gore kills are fucking awesome and give you a breather while replenishing HP. Charged blood punches are also fun. (Especially upgraded).
People who criticize lack of ammo or too much colors or whatever are massive faggot casuals. Doom eternal is a top notch fps game. Just straight up killing shit fast.

Well okay

Attached: 1575647416702.png (476x411, 11.53K)

You could carry 60 fully upgraded. And please quote me saying that there is not enough ammunition in eternal. There's enough, it's just extremely annoying and adds an unnecessary component to the game.

>DOOM never had a theme in the context of its story or lore.
It was pretty strictly some sci-fi and then demons. It's like an Event Horizon sequel/reboot happening and doing a similar thing, throwing an advanced "angel" race into the story.

It's hard to take so many people complaining about ammo management seriously when so many people are complaining about Doom's hitscanners.
Both issues are solved by aiming good without subpar controls.

Not trying to shit on Nu-Doom, but personally I don't find boring have to search for ammo or health on Classic Doom. I think it's a lot depper and interesting, because introduces exploration and a space awareness meta-game that unfortunately gets trivialized on Nu-Doom. Keep doing the same things over and over (arenas fights over arenas fights) is a lot more boring and mechanical than have to traverse and look around looking for goodies.
