Is this going to be a daily thread now?
Close. It's like 3rd or 4th.
First FF game I threw in the trash. Even beat FF10-2 to justify the purchase.
Not even the best game of its bloody trilogy.
Just stare at her armpits and imagine yourself licking them after Lightning had a long day of fighting. You know you want to.
weak bait
we need FF XIII Remake. Nomura, where are you?
This meme needs to just die already. The story in 13-2 was incomprehensible garbage and LR was just boring neoclassical blah. Also none of the gameplay in the sequels stacks up to turtle farming in XIII.
And that's all besides the fact that FF13 has the best-told story in the mainline franchise (besides 6 and some of the MMOshit)
>The story in 13-2 was incomprehensible garbage
Disagree. Trying to shoehorn in a sequel to a finished story rarely works (see Matrix 2) and doing it with a time-travel-reality-fracturing thing is dangerously close to ass-pull territory, but it was actually completely solid. And Caius was fantastic.
Though I'll admit I'm a sucker for endings where things DON'T get wrapped up in neat little bows. I wish KH had ended with Kairi lost for good. I wish 10-2 ended with Yuna never getting Tidus back. Gravitas, even if wielded like a sledgehammer is better than "everything turned out great in the end!"
yeah...if you're a RETARD!!!!!
Fact.
I like XII and XIV the most.
>XIV
Fucking retard no 14 storylines come close to any of the single player games.
i gave up after the train section. is it worth finishing?
Ok I never talked about the stories tho. I just said I liked those two the most. I had the most fun playing those two.
It’s top 5. Best cast, world, setting, design, music, battle system. Literally the only downside is the no towns meme.
This.
>XIV
>Fun
>Grinding and simon says style boss fights
Hahaha
Okay sell me on the game. I played it at launch and sold it back to GameStop after 12 hours or something. I don't really remember much about it. Just bought it on steam to give it another chance. How do I enjoy it this time?
Man FF13 got the music so right across all the FF games I've played.
Jap voices and not being a pleb
FF13 graphics is admissible. Remakes can only be with old graphics games.
Oh shit there's dual audio in the steam version? Thank fuck. I remember hating Vanille and Hope because of their voices. Should I turn auto battle off or something? And isn't all the story hidden in the menus? I need to read all that right?
I still haven't played it. Is it even worth a playthrough? I've heard it's linear but that doesn't bother me much since I really like X and it was pretty linear until the very end.
I don't know what you're talking about. I don't grind. I am a pretty casual player. Like I haven't even been subbed to the game at all in 2020. And the bosses aren't any different than other MMO bosses.
>I've heard it's linear
FF7R is just as linear yet everyone loves that lmao
Auto battle is good for trash mobs. I would t rely on it for bosses or tougher mobs.
The data log criticism is a total meme. The story just comes together as it goes as it flashes back to earlier events through the chapters. There some extra details, but literally nothing there that isn’t told through the game. People just had trouble with all the nomenclatures the game uses. FF13 unironically has one of the tightest modern FF narratives and there no part of it that feels unfinished or like stuff was cut or anything like that.
based and pitpilled
>neoclassical
what does this mean with reference to video games? neoclassical is an architectural style (like pre-1960s us govt buildings)
I'm sorry to say you're going to have to put a good number of hours into it before you "get" it. It's a forced corridor for a LONG time.
But some tips to make the early game more pleasant:
1) The Crystarium "grid" isn't like jobs. Leveling up Ravager as a Commando isn't spreading your EXP thinly. Buffs earned in any tree take effect regardless of your currently selected paradigm. Therefore even if you've only got 1 node in Commando, it will give you that paradigm and THAT is more important than MP+3 in your "main" because...
2) It matters little how strong your characters are, it's all about the stagger gauge. Ravagers raise the gauge, but you need a Commando in the early game to "pin" it otherwise it will empty before the next attack round.
3) When things are staggered, usually 3 commandos will do more damage than anything. It's counter intuitive, but true for most of the early game.
4) Don't sell anything. EVER. You don't need the gil and unless you have a guide open, you're better hanging onto things for the weapon mods. And the weapon mod system seems bonkers, but once you understand it, it's easy.
Late game you'll be switching paradigms and managing the battle flow on a second by second basis and you'll never want to go back to Fight, Magic, Item, Summon ever again.
pits you say?
it's a turd on the sidewalk.
LOL FINAL HALLWAYS GUISE
Yes, it's worth a playthrough, but keep in mind:
>the first half is almost oppressively linear and you unlock the battle system pretty slowly, even by JRPG standards
>don't expect to understand everything immediately, the game drops you in the deep end of the setting and expects you to pick up terms through context. there's a datalog if you want more clarification
>the game is a lot more fun if you try to actually get better at battles and aim for good rankings. autobattle is not always optimal
>play steam version for a bit
>bored out of my fucking mind
>play octopath traveler
>its as close to classic FF and SD3 as it gets
>have a blast
Hey man it was funny at the time, quit it.
Isn't it odd that someone with her disinterest in all things other than fighting would take the time to shave her armpits to look good?
>People just had trouble with all the nomenclatures the game uses.
Tru dat. Same thing happened with Death Stranding to some degree. Some people don't mind hanging onto made-up words they don't understand until they do; other people get visibly angry that no one has explained in detail what a Fal-Cie is yet. It's a fantasy world, the characters have lived in it their whole lives, you haven't, learn the language and be less of an American tourist about it.
Good to hear. My friend said that the people who couldn't get the whole story were probably idiots. The encyclopedia is just a bonus.
Fucking awesome. Thanks for the tips. And if I could slog through muv luv I'm sure I can play through the first 20 hours of ff13
Yeah but I feel like there’s more than enough information to understand them without trouble within the first few hours. Some people just can’t deal with that shit for some reason.
The linearity is such a miss-step it boggles the mind. Also towns are replaced with lists.
I hated the auto battle stuff in XIII because it makes braindead decisions
Octopath traveller is much more immediately enjoyable, but the 8-way narrative stops the story from having any depth and the battle system is good, but since you can have any party of 4 at any time, the special abilities are more bonuses rather than essential. I found I was walking all the bosses where in a FF I would expect to get bodied unless I found the best tactic early enough.
FF13 seems to set out to make you hate it. But persevere and suddenly it not only makes sense, but it's a breath of fresh air to a worn out JRPG fan. And the story is worth it.
You can turn it off from being the default option and it improves the gameplay immediately
you also might want to use the FFXIII fix. PC port is shitty for a lot of people, so if you have framerate issues or want to run it in borderless then try it out.
XIII is probably the worst numbered entry in the series because of the combat (XV may be worse, but XIII was so bad that I will never play it). It is like watching a movie where you control the actions of the main character but everything else is automated. XIII stands out in my mind when I think of terrible video games. It is a shame really, because I enjoyed the main character and the story quite a bit, but mechanically the game is garbage.
Yeah, in tough battles it got in your way, but I liked it for random battles. Remembering the elemental weaknesses of a hundred monster types isn't skill, so the game takes care of that for you ONCE YOU KNOW THE WEAKNESS. Auto battle will do random things until the Libra entry fills out. So overriding it on new mobs is the way to go. But then once you've done it the game will do it for you, leaving you to deal with the novel shit.
user most Japanese fantasy writing is full to the brim with this. Watch literally any anime
Octopath is insanely easy to break. You just have to beat Runelord and the entire game opens up, and you can do it much earlier than intended if you know what you're doing.
Hot take.
If you’ve played the game in 4K it still looks incredible. Main character models especially are incredible.
>XIII was so bad that I will never play it
Thanks for telling us your opinion is invalid
>doesn't like the direction the series has been going
>doesn't play XV because of how bad XIII was
>profit
Keep on zooming kid.
Having experience with Jap sci-fi definitely makes you used to it. I personally like it a lot. If you’re gonna make fictional worlds and settings why shouldn’t they have their own fictional cultural and scientific lingo.
Lebreau was the hottest piece of ass to come out of this game.
>Everyone calls FFXIII shit for its linearity
>FF7R just released is literally linear pathways the entire game
They didn't even open up Midgar to explore. I wonder if FF7R will take over for the worst FF game.
I think you meant FF13-2 Serah
XV is definitely worse. Imagine trying to play Dark Souls where your dodge roll didn't have I-frames and you couldn't cancel out of anything even when you saw the enemy attack coming a mile away.
And all of your attacks do fuck-all damage, and your guard never works the way you expect it to, but it doesn't matter because you can just elixir your way out of danger every time you get bodied.
It's so bad that when they made character specific combat systems for the DLC, they let you (with the aid of a special item) control a sub-character in the main game instead of Noctis and it's alarming how much better designed their combat systems are.
XIII on the other hand hides the depth from you, but when you find it, it's fun. XV will never be KH no matter how hard you try.
Did we play the same game? The battle system is XIII's saving grace. Once you get the full paradigm system it's like crack. You don't get to directly control everyone in the party, sure, but the battles move way too fast for that to work, and the role system means the AI is pretty much going to do what you want.
13 combat was fine and the character designs were good but the big picture story was virtually incomprehensible
I genuinely like FFXIII. Even if it is linear.
This. I’m I unironically playing through right now and the battles in the first half of the game can be seen more as puzzles than battles. If you figure out the puzzle then you get 5 stars. Granted it’s not all that hard but boss battles can be a bit tough to 5 star pre chapter 10.
Nah, it was easy. Ask me anything. It's been years, but I bet I can remember.
Not him, but no, it wasn't.
what annoyed me is when autobattle on an enemy who I know the weakness it would do a chain like: Fire > Fire Strike > Fire > Fire Strike and the chain would take like three times the length compared to a full Fire or Fire Strike chain
spamming the same move builds less stagger is why.
It’s better for stun locking the enemy
