This game was definitely trying to copy Splatoon, and for good reason

That ultimate popularity contest in particular is most likely effecting not only the comic that’s coming this year but probably the sequel as well.
Just like Splatoon with Callie and Marie, the sequel would do something major with Min Min canonically winning the tournament

I just wish the punches were a smidge faster and you had different punch options available. Right now you just have hooks and grabs, i want jabs and uppercuts too.

So we're all in agreement that there's gonna be some sort of revival of the original/sequel come June, right? No way Nintendo wants to add an ARMS character THIS late in its lifetime AND sponsor an NA tournament for no reason, right?

Honestly, that might just bring me in. I think it's just that there's not enough there. Punch, dodge, grab, block. At most you get mixups by throwing a left, then throwing right at a delay.

I’ve been trying to build a list of improvements that could benefit the game for a sequel rather than hear smash fags bitch and moan. You know, built from people who actually played Arms for a good chunk of time.
These sound reasonable, feel free to give suggestions as well.

I like the running rumor joke that the delay was caused by the devs banking on Spring man winning the tournament but had to rewrite for Min Min

It's a decent game that could be an amazing game if it had more focus on it's single player mode and implemented more story and a robust campaign mode.
Nintendo wanted it to be an esport, which is the wrong direction IMO.

I'm hoping for Dr Coyle personally. Non Arms fans probably aren't going to care too much about exactly who it is but seem to prefer one of the girls, and she is ultimately the most important character in the cast and has the bonus of being a new villain.

My guess for the character that's getting into smash would have to be Min Min, because of the whole tournament thing.
Otherwise we would probably have Spring Man in base-game.

It's also a shame Arms didn't get more attention, I enjoyed it a whole lot, mostly around it's release and when Lola Pop was added.
When it came out, Arms was my go-to for handheld, especially because I was moving at the time.

I could see a sequel adding some of that stuff, especially the different punches.

I would really like to get the game for $30 or less. I have played the shit out of it regardless though.
Dr. Coyle is my favorite, Min-Min and Ribbon Girl are my sides.
I never made time for Misango, gonna fix that once I cave and buy the game in a week.

Mained Mechanica and Ribbon Girl. I have a good 80 hours on the game and love it.

But I think Min Min would be the most likely and probably best choice. She won the party crash tournament, she is a pretty striking design, she can already use kicks and flips you don't see from the rest of the cast, which would fit in Smash, AND I'd love to see her destroy the "no spirits" bullshit fanrule.

Played it, really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't get into it.

I don't know what I'd be considered, I bought the game and played when it originally came out, found the motion controls unfun, and dropped it.
Then along with the smash news, I found out in one of these threads that there was a non-motion control setting, and now I love playing the game.
So I think I might just be a moron rather than bandwagon bitch, because I really should have just looked through the game settings myself back in the day.

I'm hoping the obvious non-fighters, like Mummy and Byte, get to appear in the background or something

You just know that the stage is going to be as low effort as the Byleth one, and will definitely be a walkoff again

I have played many hours with both, and I just can't imagine wanting to stick with the non-motion controls. I just can't click with them, the motion actually feels good in ARMS.

But why even include the rep 3 years later?

Got it when I first got my switch. I had a blast but slowly stopped playing around the time Misango was introduced and completely stopped before Dr. Coyle was added. After the smash announcement I picked it back up and rediscovered the fun I was having

I might try the motion controls again at some point, but by only pair of Joycons have started to drift, so I'll probably need to get that fixed first.

Besides the extendo arms, you mean? They also can dash and charge up their punches when dashing or blocking, giving their attacks different effects. If Soccerguy is cool, he'll give them the longest ranged tether grab in the game, but make it so that attacks can cancel the grab out if you hit the "tether" of their arms.

Enjoyed ARMS. Glad people played it again, even for a short time. Forgot that it's pretty fun. Excited its getting into Smash

Mained MAX BRASS & Mummy. ARMS 2 really just needs to have more content and it's good. A single-player mode that's a sort of "rail-puncher" would work great, where you are moving through a level and have to punch the enemies in your way. Could make each character's a little different and add an animated ending for each or something.

Also I want the Smash rep to be Brass, but Twintelle would be great too since she's best girl.

The game would be much more offense oriented, but it would also be much more fun if they had allowed you to switch punch types in the middle of fights instead of every round.

We'll probably never get a rep from Guilty Gear so this is the closest thing I guess. A couple back-airs are pseudo-airdashes though, like ROB & Corrin.

I hope ARMS 2 has real boss fights. It could work really well since the game controls surprisingly similar to an action game and a shooter. Just have a big monster you need to strafe around and punch the fuck outta.

Played the recent free week or so and enjoyed it, not gonna pick it up anytime soon, but if they made a sequal/major content update then I would look into it.
