I'm playing Doom 2016, I'm on the second mission. What are some worthwhile mods for my guns? Feels wrong to buy both the upgrades from each weapon.

Mods for both the Assault Rifle and Combat Shotgun become pretty irrelevant later in the game so just go with what seems fun for now. If you find the Plasma Rifle early then go with the Stun Bomb first because it hard counters enemies with shields.

Is the shotgun grenade launcher really that bad? Or does it become too weak later on?
combat shotty - ranged explosive thing, forgot what it was called
AR - micro missiles
plasma - stun bomb
rocket lawnchair - both, though burst allows you to instakill some of the more annoying enemies
chaingun - turret
gauss - siege mode to remove any challenge from the game
shotgun nades are still good for taking out lone imps and soldiers

Last question. Is the AR's scope bad? It would be cool to have a scoped weapon, because Perfect Dark had one and was fun as hell to use.
it's underwhelming and emphasizes gameplay style not suited for the game - you don't want to slow down, limit your fov and slowly pick off targets
It's not bad, just kind of pointless if you're any decent at aiming. The AR is already pinpoint-accurate at medium distances, and there are like two times in the game you'll be fighting anything at long range. Eternal's equivalent is much, much better since the scoped shots do more damage and do bonus damage on top of that against enemy weakpoint.

Yeah, that makes sense. This game is too fast paced for sniping tactics.

Nope, still the best option for Cacodemons, arachnotron head turrets and revenant missile launchers

They almost certainly realized that making it take any more than one hit to destroy a weakpoint would make the scope pointless. The combat is way too fast for any sniping technique other than "midair quickscope" to be viable.

BFG - BFG (Unmakyr sucks)
Unmakyr shouldn't have shared an ammo pool with BFG, it means you can't use it without sacrificing your get out of jail free card and it's not strong enough to be worth the trade off

The only issue with Marauders is that sometimes their AI breaks and they just stand there doing nothing but dashing and blocking. It's not an issue normally because you can just whittle them down, but it's obnoxious when it happens in the timed encounter.

You can't detonate when swapping to another weapon and the only way to play this game is to swap weapon after each shot.
You use the remote detonation to clear out trash packs

Because for some reason Bethesda decided it's a good idea to make weaponswap remove recovery animation from each weapon. This means by shooting swapping shooting swapping back you actually shoot much better than just using 1 weapon
Old doom was better. I also think that the old BFG was better. It was a very strong weapon that had its uses but wasn't fucking "I autowin entire room" type of shit.

Not him but there are tons of ways to clear crowds but it's always good to have something to focus down priority targets that like to move around. You should have both though for careful damage around corners.

So what you're saying is that it let's you autowin difficult rooms? It's not really for that in Eternal since rooms are constantly spawning more enemies.

No it doesn't autowin rooms. It just kills closest 5 small demons or so. Far from clearing a room. Rather like a ranged Blood Punch
