The plot of its own accord is happening at an exponentially faster pace compared to the original (webm related, Cloud about to sperg out and be put in a wheelchair a great deal sooner than planned), but gets slowed down repeatedly or events changed by entities called Whispers. Whispers try to keep the game's events on the original's track to the point of killing Jessie and reviving Barret when he's killed by Sephiroth. The last leg of the game is confronting the Whispers, the party being shown visions of FF7's ending and deciding they want things to pan out better than it does in the original, and once the Whispers are dead Sephiroth shows up trying to win Cloud and the rest over so they (read: he) can change the future irreparably. Sephiroth is told to fuck off.
