Kiwami for "release" order (it's a remake of the original), 0 for chronological (it's a prequel). I personally recommend 0, as it's the better game with more side content.

I personally stopped playing it after 0 because I don't like the heavyhanded censorship/garbage localization they're going with now, but the subquests were the only thing that makes the series good. It's certainly not the braindead combat with punching bag enemies who shuffle their feet every now and then.

I 100% everything but mahjong and the gambling related shit, the betting limits on those games were ridiculous compared to how much money you had to earn.

Don't, i been playing Yakuza 0 for 65 hrs and i barely halfway in, and im already bored. The side shit slows down the game to a crawl and really hurts it, and you can't really ignore side shit because while most of it is not related to the main plot, a lot of is critically related to character growth in the dramatic sense.

i sincerely do not understand how people have a hard time with the disco, it was really easy for me, in Kiwami i used cheat engine on the expert cunt at pool to lock his score on 00 so i could win, thats really it

Kiwami is a sequel to 0. Don't listen to any retards that say to start with Kiwami because Kiwami expects you to have played 0 before hand and many scenes in both the main story and especially the subquests make reference to the events of 0. Things like Majima's character won't make any sense unless you play 0 first.

How do you rank Yakuza games in terms of story?

None of the events in the main story reference 0 since that's a 100% faithful transposition of the PS2 story with model-swapped cutscenes et al.
The new subquests reference 0 but if you don't have alzheimer's you'll get the point later anyway.
Majima being a straight up madman is how he was originally conceived, they came up with the sad backstory later.
If anything he makes less sense if you play 0 first since they made him a lot less ruthless in 0 and some of his actions in the first game don't coincide with his more developed personality.
Majima 0 would have never threatened a lady with a knife, for instance.
