Because I started messing with anki two weeks ago and I swear my brain is melting
if i wanted to learn another language to play obscure games, i'd rather learn a programming language and make my own shitty obscure game
Because it's not worth it
>learn english to play most videogames
>now have to learn this bullshit language too
fuck you
If your native language isn't English or Japanese, thank your parents for raising you in an irrelevant skivehole.
But really, I wonder what it's like to know the world barely knows your language exists when English is trying to phase out everything else
What's wrong?
Multiple readings is fucking me up, and I guess I'm not breaking kanji down into radicals yet, so sometimes I mistake one for another.
>Japan
>Not an irrelevant shithole
It seems like an awful place to live but it's the most relevant to my interests desu
So you're just starting to learn Japanese and you start with kanji?
Anki reps is all I have time for at the minute. Once I'm freed up I want to actually work on the foundation stuff and such.
Duolingo works fine for beginners
Anything good is/will be translated
Learning radicals one by one is useless. At least personally it didn't help me.
But as you learn kanji you should naturally learn what kind of radicals mean what, so you can make some educated guesses about how to read and what the meaning is.
Like many body parts have moon radical in them.
>rance took fucking years, over a decade to be translated
>get some shitty 'official' translations by mentally ill SJW discord trannies shilled by Yas Forums brah
How do I get over the vertigo from having to learn all the kanji, vocabulary and grammar?
English is easy as piss
Saying you know English is expected, it's not an achievement

This. You would literally live in a bubble if you didn't know any English.
Most products don't even come with a manual that is translated to my native language.
I've got all the required material lying around on my pc for the past 10 years, but I'm just too lazy to start.
I fucking hate anime and ive read like 3 mangas in my life, the games are shit and i play the same ones on repeat, yet i'm studying this stupid language and i find it incredibly fun.
Stop making this thread every single day you annoying autist.
Kanji is the vocab, basically.
Grammar is easy. Just go through them with any of the site that lists all of it, and check for some current/still relevant slang.
Most of the grammar is useless though, so you only need those if you want to take the JLP test. Which I don't see any point unless you want to work in Japan or impress someone for some reason.
If you use Anki for your vocab/kanji learning, just limit the daily reviews and new words to something that doesn't burn you out. So try out like 50 new words and 100 reviews, and increase or lower them depending how you feel is good amount for daily practice.
You probably pic a lot of words naturally anyway once you start reading something. NHK offers "easy japanese" news. I think that is very good place to start practicing reading, and you always get new material.
What language?

There's a 50% chance I'm posting to myself and I don't even know it
If you want to know the way I did it, went through Tae Kim grammar guide(grammar guide, not the new beginner introduction thing), made anki cards for each new word. After through guide and anki deck is no problem getting correct, started reading manga, shit like Yas Forums's own mascot Yotsuba are good start.
At that point, able to get most of a sentence and able to look up rest on Jisho. Can also do games instead of manga, has to be something where dialog doesn't continue until button press though.
It slow getting through sometimes even single page, especially at start, but I felt it helped stay motivated since actually reading/playing real Japanese shit.
Currently I can read and write, no problem. Listening(and speaking too, most likely) is pretty rough, but that's just because I didn't really practice them. Add them to my regime and you should be good.
Thanks for the tips, buds.
I'm learning Kanji with Anki. Very Interesting. I like how I slowly learn what this chicken scratch means. Figuring out Engrish words with Katakana is fun too. I saw some on this anime I was watching with the credits and figured out it said "Cast." I'm also learning grammar slowly. I'm still at beginning though.
Have you figured out abbreviated words?
Usually they are 1-2 of the first syllables of both words stringed together. スマホ = smartphone, from スマートホン
Japan also loans a lot of words from other languages, so be careful.
Objectively wrong.
I haven't been exposed to it much yet but yeah I saw some katakana was different languages but thanks for telling me that.
What the fuck have you done to Coco's beautiful face
Cease this faceswap immediately

>English is easy as piss
Depends. It IS easy as piss if you're French (lot of shared vocab) or Dutch (same language family), but certainly not easy to learn if you're, say, Japanese.
miko started it

I did kanji study in my first year learning Japanese. It should never be the main thing you're doing, but it's good for helping new words to stick and removing the intimidation factor of kanji if that's a thing for you. For me it was also an excuse to do handwriting practice, which I enjoyed doing for its own sake.
Is she american? Her English is way too good to be japanese
