Post game franchises that went down in flames

Post game franchises that went down in flames.

I'll start:

Wolfenstein
Thief
Warcraft

Half Life with Alyx

Is there any franchise that has existed for a long time and is still good to this day?

Wolfenstein is the biggest one I can think of. What a shame.

Red Dead

Final Fantasy

Persona

Fallout

There are literally no franchises that are good right now

I actually think it barely counts because it was a blip on a radar in 1992 (mostly famous as being the womb Doom emerged from) then enjoyed a moment in the sun in the early '00s (godamn Enemy Territory was good) and then shuffled out of its grave once more as a sentient garbage heap. So it's a franchise that only "existed" in any positive was for like two of the last 30 years.

Ys
Rance but it ended a couple years ago
They both date back to 1989 and they never lost their SOUL

kirby
dragon quest
legend of heroes
guilty gear
digimon (except for the anime)

Pokemon
Mario

It's cheating but (modern) Tetris?!

HITMAN
I
T
M
A
N

DOOM
O
O
M

>legend of heroes

yes, the games are still good in spite of reantard.

Most of them? Certainly compared to other media.
99% of Yas Forumsirgin's GOTY lists for 2017 had Mario, Zelda, or Sonic on them.

Fallout
Vampire The Masquerade
Killing Floor
Red Orchestra
Dishonoured
Metal Gear Solid

Command and Conquer. It's not even my favorite RTS series, but it didn't need to go out like that, man, not like that.

Nigga, it’s only just 3 games.

What are you talking about? Fallout 3 and Fallput 4 are the best games of the franchise, I'll admit that Fallout:New Vegas was kinda shit, but miles better that Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tacticts.

Mass Effect, easily
Never seen a franchise go from universal acclaim to just nothing, and so quickly.

>Alyx is among the top rated PC games of all time
>its release reignited interest in the HL franchise (and VR), among normies and fans alike
I think Half-Life is going to be fine.

bait

There will never be another series telling a story of this scope.

A game franchise is an iterative series of game products developed around a demand for the services/value of the intellectual property.(...)From there a second game is released which results in the establishment of a franchise within the brand

(You)

Its what EA does best. They ruined so many series/developers. They barely even have any games left. What the fuck did they even release the last few years? (excluding Fifa)

New question: Is there any franchise that was good, went to shit but then redeemed themselves and became good again?

Dead Space...
Can we get an F in the chat for those lost yo EA?

Your mum last night and then this morning

resident evil
silent hill
street fighter
king of fighters
gta
yakuza
dmc
alone in the dark
star wars

Castlevania, it went down in the early 2000s when it became focused on handhelds and just copying SOTN's formula.

Halo, because its original creators lost interest in it as the market became focused more on the matchmaking mouthbreathing crowd.

Resident Evil

They had Anthem, a game so good, it might finally put bioware out of it's misery.

digimon is debatable. next order was trash compared to the original world
this

>Can we get an F in the chat for those lost yo EA?
They ruined:

Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Command Conquer
Need for Speed
Dead Space
Battlefield

What the fuck is wrong with them?

Final Fantasy with Final Fantasy VIIR. It’s a masterpiece we’ll still be talking about decades later and completely blew the original away. I lost faith after FFXII, but gain it right back after this.

Deus Ex with Human Revolution.

F

Rune Factory

Call of Duty, maybe?
It was a well liked series, then it became the epitome of laziness and something everyone loved to shit on, now people seem to like it again.

>I'll admit that Fallout:New Vegas was kinda shit
Here's your (You)

Command & Conquer
Simcity
Dungeon Keeper
Tomb Raider
Diablo
Need for Speed
Quake
Fallout
Tribes

Can't wait for Splinter Cell to become horrible as well

>he hasn't played hitman 2

You were not even born, but EA manage to defend the rights of game developers back in the day, also pushed the envelope to pay bigger sallaries and to give QA/coder/monkeys stable work routines with vacations, they forced the media to the discussion of art and videogames, hence why they have 'art' in it's name. Too bad they went to the 'game as a service' business model back in 09'. They really could have been a modern God for gaming, but decided to become the jew of gaming. Shame.

They have a list that can only be contested by Konami, but then we move on to the developers they bought and killed.

Crash Bandicoot, until Vicarious Visions singlehandedly saved the franchise with NST.

Doom, Kirby, Resident Evil, Smash.

no, the only ones claiming so are blind fanboys

Doom

To be fair, nothing of value was lost

Doom

Age of Empires 2 as a single game. Its 20 years old and still sells millions and has 30k players a day.

Ass Creed

implying, the third is a borefest where you spend literal hours just fighting the controls and animations.

fuck you command & Conquer was worth

Crash Bandicoot (NST and NF), Resident Evil (7, RE2make, RE3make).

first of all, ea is a western company and the west isn't very good at making games. all of those franchises would be immediately better off if they were sold to japanese developers.
second of all, trip hawkins quit the company in the mid-'90s to focus on 3do. that moment was the beginning of ea's transition from a gaming company founded by a visionary to a soulless corporate conglomerate.

>that filename
fucking got me

Heroes of Might and Magic

Thanks, Ubishit.

yes, I did, still a masterpiece. The real Hitman 2, ofc

Rayman

final fantasy might finally be on the path to redemption now that tabata's been fired and komoto and toriyama have been demoted to sidekick roles.

I've been playing all the games in a row, started syndicate recently. Black Flag / Rogue were my favorites gameplay wise. Story went to shit in 3 and writing quality was good in 4 but never recovered after so far. I heard Syndicate was the worst one but the first two missions I thiught were pretty good. I guess I'll find out

Red Alert 2 was 20 years ago. Nothing of value came after that, EA started to shit on the pot way after the franchise was dead.

Warhammer 40,000
Warhammer Fantasy

i considered generals "fine". but not the direction i wanted the franchise to go
but i can accept your opinion

>implying warhammer total war isn't the best thing to happen to fantasy
I'll give you Vermintide though. Fucking FartShart

why did you have to remind me

Attached: 1580568994524m (1).jpg (1000x1024, 66.61K)

Origins and Odd were the redeeming games and breathed new life into it.

Mass Effect is the poster franchise for wasted potential.

hitman

Mass Effect (Fuck, I miss Liara)
Warcraft
Dragon Age
Fallout

Tetris.
Even Ubisoft's abortion of a port couldn't kill the franchise.
