Why are people so upset by his redemption? Sure he killed Harus dad and Futabas mom but the thieves forgave him cause he was trying to stop his dad. Plus he helped out in royal.

That's not inherently edgy, SMT is about the ideological conflicts in a post-apocalyptic world and the tensions rise until your friendships are severed and you stand as opponents. It's something that builds up over the game and each step is reasonable, though it may be might seem extreme if you just jumped from start to finish
Compared to Akechi who's contorting and turning black as he shouts about how friendship and justice are worthless before his fight, and then after losing he tries to justify it by saying he was abused as a kid by evil adults

Royal's new chapter is better than the main game though
It's a literal dream world where everything is right and everyone is happy, it's highly likely that all the people Akechi killed are back alive because people wished for them, but it's still a dream and everything goes back to normal with akechi being probably dead afterwards

The additions to the gameplay only serve to make a game that wasn't hard pathetically easy. They didn't balance Royal at all, or include a new difficulty to account for all these new powers and perks, and extra free time to get them all. P5 Royal is more busted than SMT IV vanilla.
