Looking for a new MMO to get into and stuck between Destiny and Final Fantasy XIV. Know both are kind of terrible now but which is a better game to turn your brain off and enjoy the gameplay while grinding?

Both games rely on a rigid content cycle that delivers very little new content every update, and as much of it as possible is essentially recycled.
Destiny 2 manages to have less of it, and their current practice is so brazen it's legitimately insulting. Pick XIV if grinding in OSRS just doesn't do it for you anymore.
>3.5K hours XIV / 1.3K hours Destiny 2

No

Is XIV even good or fun??
All I see is coomers and waifubait, nobody ever discusses gameplay

>reviews from 5 years ago when it was still under development
>content constantly being worked on
kbro, you can go back to BDO

It takes a while to get good because it's all locked behind 6+ years of content.
2.x (first 100 hours or so)
>Story 4/10
>Gameplay 4/10
>Music 7/10

5.x (current content)
>Story 9/10

>Music 10/10
>Zones 7/10 (bit of a mixed bag)
>RPG elements 4/10

I like it a lot. But you gotta understand that from a gameplay perspective, your class doesn't really start until level 30, and at level 50, you just have the barebones foundation for it.

Take FF, Destiny 2 is a slog from start to finish and the raids are the worst.
The only good thing is that Destiny has are some nice guns but that is it.
Even the PVP content is just absolute garbage.
FF is comfy and has some easy to understand combat systems but don't go in there and expect some action game it is still an mmo.

>Want to play new MMO
>Every single one is ~80gb
Fucking pieces of shit man, it takes like 3 nights to download them.

Plus, as a newcomer you have to deal with the fact that skills have been removed, nerfed, buffed, or outright changed since release, and content at that level is nowhere near balanced for the current status of classes. Fights will be over much sooner than intended simply because you are much more powerful despite the level syncing.

Is the gameplay and PvP better in Destiny? Don't care much for comfy I want to kill shit to make numbers and bars fill up.

Then you probably want to play Destiny. They dump you right in at end-game and expect you to know your way around. Literally all you do is shoot a thing to make a bar go up.
PVP is garbage, and it always is in PVE games. Half the current season's content is a PVP mode they removed from the game years beforehand because it was terrible and nobody liked it, citing a desire to "get it perfect" before releasing it.
Lo and behold, they rereleased the mode exactly as it was, except the gear is even uglier remodels of older stuff. One of the top PVPfags even made a video explaining to people how to efficiently farm the weapons from it, which essentially bricked the mode for anyone who wasn't a core PVP player as high skill premade groups farm the first three matches and then reset their streak.

I still play FFXIV from time to time, its a good game.

No, it's very dull, but it's still better than destiny.

Gameplay discussion happens for the first couple weeks after a major update, then it's back to arguing over which NPC is the cutest and some fags arguing over which player has the cuter avatar.

If you like to shoot play destiny, if you like tab targeting combat and are fine with paying subscription play XIV. Both games are pretty great in their own ways, I stopped playing destiny for XIV though because I fucking love 95% of the combat content and the bosses have lots of variety.

I wish I could relive Shadowbringers' release again desu, everybody losing their minds as they progressed through the story
Was humming that boss theme all fucking day for weeks, too.

Every boss almost always has fucking great music

The mechanics always line up just right with the music, too.
>Every story boss
>Boss mechanics start chasing everybody around while they try to keep their damage going

>WE FAAAAAAAAAALL
>WE FAAAAAAAAAALL

If you aren't a try-hard nerd who just wants to grind to the end game, and you take your time to explore the game during your time with it, its amazing.

Hm, I like this answer. I’m the type to wander around and enjoy the environment in MMOs.
Forgot about the subscription, tho, so I probably won’t play it anytime soon since my backlog of games is high enough as it is

Play destiny 1, not destiny 2

this desu, game is really cozy and even unlabeled NPCs have things to say sometimes

Attached: 1556384859422.png (600x1436, 1.48M)

Is that even still being supported? Was always sad I never got to experience it during its time in the sun...
Instead I was a destiny 2 cuck and now they’ve destroyed even that

>destiny
>mmo

Fucking trials man I played that shit flawless 10 times and then I already had enough.
And it got even worse after house of wolves because of all the dumb changes to the matchmaking which turned every PVP game into a snipe fest or fellwinter/matador infected hell hole and don't get me started on the thorn bullshit.
And now do they bvring it back in 2 because having another mode like trials of nine that will just bring the most miserable PVP experience back is just fun right?
Man I do not miss destiny one bit and im glad I am finally off that rollercoaster of bullshit.

>3 shadowlands thread at the same time

i guess the WoW shilling has begun, oh boy i hope JANNY actually do some WORK tho

I love walking around the Cities and talking to the NPC after every patch to see if they have new dialogue.

PSO2 on PC is around the corner, user

>That Fordola
dude

Xiv is hands down one of the most boring pieces of shit games I have ever played through. Don't waste your time. It's just anime WoW

PSO2 has been out for almost 8 years

I wonder if in the next Garlemald expansion we see more of her or if she is now banished to the SMN questline.

If Fordola came back it'd just be to kill her off desu

I have played both.
For Destiny, you really need a group of friends and voice chat, the raids are very team oriented where active communication on the spot is key, and that is where the fun is, single player is braindead and you will only be playing for the story, which is ok at best. Aesthetics are god tier though.
XIV is more single player oriented, you can do raids and fights with randoms and do fine, for endgame there are a lot of practice and progression parties, story is the main focus, it has a lot of twists and revelations, which makes it fun for the community to speculate what will happen next.

D2
Pro: >fun exploration and mini activities
>good weapons designs and enemies designs
>cool abilities to have
>you can experiment with exotic and weapons to come up with things

Con: > the grind is almost abysmal
>devs make stupid and pointless nerfs (nerfed snipers cause "it let players play in a safe spot" which is what snipers are made for
>mini bosses and bosses have stupid stomp mechanics that make your character fly away as you get close
>the world stay the same and nothing changes
>proper nerfs take too long to nerf (hunters had a exotic that let them keep their super for majority of PvP and they was very hard to kill. They didn't nerf the exotic until like 7 months later)
>raids gets boring after a few tries
>devs want you to play their way and not your own unique way
>sweaty tryhards in PvP that act like they are better than everyone

FF 7
Pro >fun combat and exploitation
>"little grind" until the late continent
>dungeons are fun to do with cool mechanics
>each job is fun and "unique" in their own different way
>you can meet fun and cool people

Con: > the game doesn't explain a good amount of things like crafting and how it is useful
> even though dungeons are fun, you sometimes won't get people who explain the boss mechanics
>you get plenty of people who don't play their jobs properly (tanks not agro correctly or healers that just over heal)
>long que times if you are playing as a dps. So good luck with that
>get ready for people to invite you to their guild a lot
>the very first content gets very boring in the end
>a lot of fetch, talk, or kill this to progress

I play D2 every day and it fucking sucks, play xiv instead if you know whats good for you

>For Destiny, you really need a group of friends and voice chat
This is bullshit. All the people I know who play this are PvPfags who retch at the thought of raiding, you can raid with randoms just fine.
For XIV, you need to expect to practice a fight with the same 7 other people on schedule.

i used to play D2 regularly and just started to play XIV, D2 has been doing down the shitter ever since forsaken, and you need to have voicechat for the high end content like the raids and trials. cant say shit on XIV since i just started, but im enjoying it. stop nerfing shit bungie you stupid niggers

Gameplay is very active, the beginner levels are super slow though because you still don't have a rotation or off GCD skills, also the fights are very slow and slowly ramp up, this is a massive wall for a lot of people but once you reach the expansion, it all becomes faster and more clear, bad thing is that you will need to invest a lot of time.

FFXI retail or private server

FF has the most disgusting community out of them all

user don't lie, PvP was a fucking mess in Destiny I'm not sure if they changed it but very little people used to play it, appart from a couple of autists that consistently ran that.
Raiding yes you can do it with randoms, but it's a lot better when you know the guys and are aware of their weaknesses and if they have problem with X thing.
In XIV you just join a random clear party and be done it with because everyone uses the same strategy from youtube.

XIV is my first MMO i got into, and maybe its because its my first but after i got my basic rotation at like lv 30-40 its been kinda hard. fucking up shit like DoT uptime and my twin snake buffs.

Raids stop being fun if you do them over and over and over again just to get the shit you want.
I mean I give bungie that the vanilla raid in 2 was not as terrible as Crotas End, but still sometimes did it take hours just to get it done and is it just a chore and by good do not show up without the right equipment for hard mode or you will be stuck forever.
There are still people who play PVP exclusivly? What the hell is wrong with them, it is the worst part of that game and that for a good reason.

>For XIV, you need to expect to practice a fight with the same 7 other people on schedule.
This a straight up lie.

You can pug everything but Ultimate fights, of which there are only 3 in the game right now.

Trying to learn Savage with pugs is a miserable experience.

Is it the same for XIV or any game like that, if you something over and over it get stale, but the initial enjoyment of clearing a fight for the first time is why most play it.

Just as miserable as running Destiny raids with randoms, but in Destiny is worse since you are required to do voice chat.

DON'T PLAY DESTINY
PVP IS SHIT
PVE SUFFER BECAUSE BUNGIE ARE HACKS WHO CAN'T MAKE CONTENT
PVP RUINS PVE WITH BALANCE PATCH

So is raiding with randos in Destiny. But it’s still possible in both games.

I’m just pointing out user’s bullshit.

One guy can teach five monkeys to raid in Destiny, for some reason people in XIV either cannot or simply do not want to even do their own rotation, never mind the mechanics of a fight.

having a static is far more time efficient
and if ure playing the chad role, DPS, you get all the loot first

Not always the case, I've been in a lot of static and finding one with people that know their stuff is hard. It just takes 1 single person to do bad and the whole static crumbles because of drama.

They’re both brainless, and gameplay enjoyment will come down to if you want an RPG or FPS.

I’d put XIV over Destiny just because Bungie is jyst that incompetent and you won’t have to deal with their fuckery.

As someone who used to be a huge mmojock and played Destiny and Destiny 2 extensively since the first betas for each game, I recently picked up FFIV and I can whole heatedly say that the short time I had making friends, going through the actually enjoyable story, and exploring the world mechanics was infinitely better than anything I found in Destiny with the exception of PvP (since I haven't tried it in FFIV yet) and FPS gameplay. I honestly really regret spending years playing Destiny and had that I supported such a terrible company.

Also if you're coming from the prospective of an MMO player don't bother with Destiny. It half-asses pretty much everything on purpose with the excuse being that they're not aiming to make an "mmo", they're making a "shared world shooter". So story, lore, social mechanics, faction system, quests, all that sorta exude a sense of half-backedness, with the occasional hidden gem here and there.

>Xiv
>Fun combat and dungeons
How is using your one AoE ability for 99% of the games story and dungeon progression good combat?

i want to solo HoH
how many hours will i need to invest?

If you have 99/99 Gear and can do it in 1 run I would say around 2-3, probably more, hours.
Really depends if you can do it in 1 go or if you die and reset.

xiv music is truly unrivaled

did you take a look at the /vg/ thread and assume that the rest of the game is like that?

I don't know much about XIV but in Destiny devs literally delete content you paid to access. Avoid it like a plague, that shit isn't even worth your time.
