It's so weird that nazis now need to pretend to like this garbage
I thought it was ok but it was barely a sonic movie. this type of road trip comedy has been done a lot.
So how is Sonic Team going to fuck up the good momentum the franchise has gained this time?
This movie is shit because they didn’t put this in the credits youtu.be
Thank god for that. Sonic's stories are all convoluted, boring and cringe.
...what?
Sonic became an alt right film because it did better than that shitty BoP movie.
they'll find a way, they always do. Now just sit there and wait for the next disappointment like a good little boy.
It absolutely is a generic video game movie cash grab. Everything that happens is interchangeable with any other franchise. When's the last time Sonic got in a fight at a biker bar? Replace him with any other mascot character and it would be the same.
It's enjoyable only in the sense that a generic Hollywood movie can be enjoyable.
>go to see sonic because it's shilled here as a half decent viddy film
>It's just a generic, mildly entertaining kids film that happens to have Sonic as a mascot and is saved by Jim Carrey's performance
Lego movie better
Wreck It Ralph better
I don't know why, but the scene where robotnik sees sonic for the first time and he just screams gets me every time.
>two for two
So, blue arms good?
Carrey elevates it to a passable viewing. Mortal Kombat is probably still the best video game movie though.
Erm, excuse you?
It's an okay movie. But the fact it isn't a dumpster fire is the amazing part.
I only saw this movie as a kid, and I remember liking it. Why the hate? Is it really that bad?
PS, I was a Mario Fan when I saw it.
Hopper elevates it to a passable viewing. Mortal Kombat is probably still the best video game movie though.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
OOOHH GOD
no
I'm just thankful that they didn't go too lore-heavy on us with it
I never watched the cartoons or played any of the 3d games so I have no clue what the ancient echidna tribe and giant owl shit was about, they showed just enough for it to make sense though
Part of what made the movie work was that they didn't rehash the game plots, because Video games and movies are two different types of Media.
Giant Owl was new to the series, but various adaptations had Sonic raised by some non-familial guardian or the other.
There is some lore reasons why Owls are significant, but nothing really fleshed out in the games.
But the not leaning in too hard on hardcore fans also helped make the movie good
R E N T F R E E
I found this video to be pretty insightful on why the Sonic movie worked where other Video Game movies failed.
The Mario movie is to the Mario games like abstract art is to regular art; some people are just into that sort of thing, but it really went wild with the source material.
Honestly if it didn't have the clout of being a film being based on a Nintendo game, it'd be some weird B-movie that would've been best forgotten.
Is Robotnik as wacky as Jim Carrey was in his role? I enjoyed it.
There was some ancient american design document that said sonic was raised by an owl called Sophocles
Here's the official ranking:

>silly but good with low production values tier

the Resident Evil sequels, yes all of them
>experiemental art tier
Uwe Boll's video game adaptations
>bad tier
Tekken 2010 (what a fucking shitty movie that was)
>forgotten tier
if it wasn't mentioned above it goes here
yeah, but Longclaw herself is new. There have been owls that have been important here or there. Nothing concrete
YOU DO NOT KNOW DA WAE!
Salty Boppers are still on this shit?
For fuck's sake, Sonic's cop buddy has a black wife. Step off.
I grew up on sonic and even after beating the game dozens of times I still don't remember the credits. sonic 3's credits on the other hand...
People love to say how bad it is just because it does an entirely unique spin on the franchise, and how different it is from the source. It became a bit of a meme for being "bad" because of that. But the point of a Hollywood movie is to entice people to go out to theaters, not just show them something familiar.
Super Mario Bros is definitely a new experience. Don't buy into the hate.
Chris liked it.
Maybe the issue he had with Boom wasn't blue arms, but he just happened to hate the designs and blue arms where the first thing to come to mind.
Honestly it was pretty generic and would've been a total waste of time if not for Jim Carrey's Robotnik
did michael diddle kids?
weird way to spell need for speed...
The Mario movie is like Adam West Batman.
It's not particularly good lorewise, but it's far from being bad.
Jim Carrey is piggybacking this entire film.
Its still fun
I'm so fucking mad it's not supercharged radioactive turd-flavored shit. I wanted a trainwreck I could riff with friends, not a mediocre film.
Jim "I don't do sequels" Carrey is actually wanting to play Robotnik a second time.
Would've been great if we had this Jim when Mask 2 was on the table.
>Wreck It Ralph better
Still better than Wreck-it Ralph 2.
t. Jared
Best part of the movie
ROCKONNAISSANCE!
Can't wait to see my knigga Knuckles in the next movie
The fact that so many gamers still name the Sonic the Hedgehog movie as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" videogame movie ever only tells you how far videogame cinema still is from becoming a serious art. Anime critics have long recognized that the greatest videogame OVAs of all times are Bible Black and Fate/stay night, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Super Mario Bros. over classical films who were highly popular in cinemas around the US. Gamers are still blinded by commercial success. Sonic the Hedgehog sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Anime critics grow up watching a lot of anime of the past, classical critics grow up watching a lot of classical films of the past. Gamers are often totally ignorant of the videogame movies of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that Sonic the Hedgehog did anything worthy of being saved.
Is this a pasta?
It's safe movie debut greenlit by unsure boomer execs. Hopefully any sequels are a little more indulgent with the source material.
Of course he'd be up for a sequel. As far as I can tell he was given a high degree of freedom simply by the virtue of being the biggest name attached to the movie. And in the next one he'd essentially be hamming it up in an empty greenscreen set, which is probably ideal for an actor like him.
Robotnik made a virus?
You'll swing from a street lamp soon, weeb.
A robo-virus. That causes a robo-zombie plague.
Sonic was better than it had any right to be. Solid 6/10. Mortal Kombat is the best vidya movie of all time though.
Mario Mario, Luigi Mario stinks.
donm't get us started. IDW is mired in a dumb zombie plot
It was pleasantly generic. The bit with the sticky bomb made me laugh.
>It's just a generic, mildly entertaining kids film that happens to have Sonic as a mascot and is saved by Jim Carrey's performance
so a half decent film?
Hell, they removed the Chaos Emeralds to not clutter things up too much
remove? more like just didn't mention them yet.
I fucking loved it. As a Sonic fan who has been harshly critical of the Sonic franchise for the last decade, I set my expectations very, very low.
I pirated the movie, and still didn't watch it for a few weeks, just because I was so unenthused.
Then I finally got around to turning it on, and it didn't disappoint at all. I mean sure, some parts of the movie are pretty cheesy. But the good so far outweighed the cheesy, that I can't be bothered to care.
Sonic's design is cute.
The premise of him being an isolated media addict made him incredibly likeable and sympathetic.
His quips were at least worth a smile, if not a chuckle. I had a few good laughs. But mostly, it was just a general feeling of amusement.
His abilities were awesome, and they didn't go cheap with the CG. Every scene has Sonic doing something cool with his powers.
Most importantly: The structure of the story was solid. Everything made sense. The logic, the narrative, character's motivations. It was all reasonable. And I even got a little choked at the end when the town came to backup Tom and then Tom announced that he's Sonic's friend, and Sonic powered up. It took me back to being 6 years old and watching the power rangers form up.
Pic related was my face throughout the movie.
I bet they'll have some shit like Sonic was conceived while both his parents were using the emeralds.
Mmmm... super sex.
He kills a starfish and a fish... Killer sonic. Or American humor with no respect to animal life and nature.
Sonic is always some weird messianic figure, but instead fo being all cult-leader like, he's like "Eh, whatever. Rockin' Radical, DUDE!"
Appearently they were supposed to be in the movie but they dropped that bit of lore to not make things too complicated
