Kojimbo didn't want to make a sequel to 2. He literally said that shit like Liquid Ocelot, the dozens Rays Raiden destroyed, State building destroyed by Arsenal Gear and the President murdered above it, has no explanation or answer. It's just some stupid abstract shit about symbolism or whatever. Smart move by him to switch to the past in MGS3, because he didn't have to think about the answers. By the time he got death threats to make MGS4, he had to made up dumb shit to those questions (which is usually nanomachines).
After that I think he's just sick of MGS. He tried making other stuff like that GBA sun game or Zone of Enders but the Konami overlords demand more MGS whoring.

Not really, you could say that it could be forgiven and seen as decent and ‘not so bad’ after the dust had settled. Or it could be seen as a weaker part in a far better series of games depending how the how the handle the rest of the remake series.

Death Stranding on the other hand could, after the whole walking simulator trend dies down and people get less mad at it.

I enjoyed it more than MGS1, I feel like MGS1 was ruined by me by playing Solid Snake first because it’s basically is a rehash if Solid Snake

2 had some good moments, but it was hardly as good as 1.

all MGS protagonists are bad, they just say "I don't understand tell me more" until the person they're talking to either walks away or tries to kill them.

the setting and the villains are a mixed bag, the setting scores points for being realistic looking, but to actually run through the levels is boring and repetetive. the badguys are flashy and that's all they are, they never accomplish anything besides yelling at you about some historical event or theory, and then getting killed by you. none of them have any real personality beyond their halloween costume exteriors.

the storyline in any MGS game is just "run over here talk to someone you can't save, run over there get a key" until you wind up in the final boss fight, confused as to why you're even there, aside from the fact that you're the good guy and he's the bad guy. nobody stands for anything and nothing matters until the final moments of the games.

The defusing bombs arc is great
Saving the president while being in desguise was nerve-racking
sword fighting with Solidus was so great and satisfying final boss instead of car chasing.
fighting dozens of metal gear is much better than fighting Shagohod
The Arsenal Gear section is so iconic and one of the most unforgettable experiences in gaming history.
The A.I stuff was creepy af
The 60FPS was glorious
The Tanker level is one of the most enjoyable areas in the franchises (running under the rain was pure kino)

The best way to play MGS2 is actually if you have already played MGR previously and then marathon MGS1+VR missions and THEN play MGS2 immediately after them.
