I'd argue that everything in SMT4A is good except the writing. The pacing is solid, the level design is good, the fusion system is convenient but less broken than in SMTIV... Idk felt like a great game overall completely destroyed by abysmal writing and characters.

Gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, but not the only thing that matters. Assuming "gameplay" includes stuff like level/enemy design as well, 2nd & 3rd are OST & Visual Design. Dead last is raw graphical fidelity.

Honestly the combat is just passable, the only thing good about it is the way enemies react to being shot. Rockstar for some reason paid the most attention to just enemy death animations, screams, mutilations and blood sprays. Their dedication to graphic violence and gore is getting weird

Absolutely based. As far as I know though, it didn't negatively affect the future of the series or anything. He made an apology after all the drama and that seemed to be the end of it. The main illustrator for one of the manga adaptions said that he didn't agree with him and wouldn't work on the manga anymore as a result, but he also took back that statement after the apology and things seem to be going on as normal.

Well, the music is good too but everything else ranges from bland to horrible. The games are carries super hard by their gameplay

>side quest lines that actually have main plot content get arbitrarily failed when you reach certain points of the main quest without any kind of forewarning
>open world on paper, but all the actually interesting places are locked behind linear quests, f.ex. you can clear a dungeon but the last monster holding the last key item just doesn't spawn without the quest, or you can reach the capital before the hydra head escort quest but the gates just arbitrarily stay locked, so there's actually no reason for freeroam exploration
>especially when it's very easy to accidentally overlevel even if you're not intentionally grinding
>forced romance system that decides your love interest based on which NPC you talked to last because simply doing their quests maxes their affection level (making the gift system pointless) and you very likely have several at max by endgame
BBI is so much better because it throws all the half-assed open world hoolaboola out of the window and just focuses entirely on dungeon crawling and combat.
