Normans will be confused because they don't know the context or why any of this shit is even important or meaningful. It's just going to look convoluted and they might feel frustrated that it looks like they're being punished for not playing the original.

People were "confused" about the OG's ending too. Like, today people still believe that Cloud's actual final fight in the OG was all an illusion as well or still don't understand that holy was enhanced by the lifestream in the ending. That is evidently not a reason to hate the game or ending as we saw back then - this is no different.
People hate it because Square Enix lied about remaking the game faithfully. They'll hate it because it takes away from what they liked about the original game and replaced it with literal trash.

I thought that Holy outright failed, and at the last minute the planet itself reached out via the lifestream and caught Meteor. Where the magics of men failed, the planet that had been abused and exploited by humanity succeeded.
I disagree. The presence of the original is the factor you're ignoring. An implicit comparison is being made that wasn't there when it was only the original. Because the storyline in the remake is remarkably less cohesive because of the introduction of time jannies and premonitions people are going to be even more confused than they should be and they will more than likely attribute this to not playing the original game.

I think that the desire to like something can actually make something you'd usally dislike a bit more enjoyable.
My friend enoyed the last jedi but when I asked him why he struggled to give me a reason, he was a big star wars fan and just really wanted to enjoy the new film, so he did even if he doesn't know why.

I think that they're aguably a worse change to the game.
The biggest problem is that they're not subtle and one of the scenes even spoils that cloud isn't a SOLDIER.
I don't think that having the story change a little bit or even having some kind of meta acknowledgement of the OG is a bad idea in theory. But it has to be subtle.

I can't list the things that are faithful besides the train intro. they arrive at similar boss fights, gameplay sections and minigames but the plot to arrive at them is completely wrong, and the things happen out of order too. something are completely absent and don't happen at all and there's so much of this game is just filler they pulled right out of their ass.
