Remember when we watched these trailers and thought the game and its story might actually be good?
Remember when we spent time analyzing every frame and figuring out how they would tie into gameplay?
Remember when we didn't factually know that Kojima is a hack?
Remember when we watched these trailers and thought the game and its story might actually be good?
> its story might actually be good?
But it was?
It was pretty straight forward and had a good ending that had a message that reminded me a bit of EoE.
nah, I knew Kojima was talentless right after finishing MGS4.
I remember when Mads looked identical to The End
only the first trailers before kojima even knew what game will be about
>Remember when we didn't factually know that Kojima is a hack?
no
The game IS good, pleb.
>wait a few weeks
>get it for £35
>it's actually great
It's better than most of the MGS series.
>we thought
You fucking niggers were shitting on this game ever since it was announced.
>Yas Forums imploded for a week every time a trailer dropped
>you niggers were shitting on it
A lot of people had huge hopes for this game. People started shitting on the game when it was revealed it was a literal walking simulator
No you didn't, hell, every goddamn DS thread has always been "KOJIMA IS A HACK", "THIS GAME IS VAPORWARE, IS NEVER COMING OUT SEE NO RELEASE DATE"
All because you idiots were still mad over MGSV.
The game wasn't as universally hated as it is right now though, and a lot of people were willing to wave MGS5 off as Konami's fault. This game confirmed for everyone but the most hardcore Kojimadrones that he's a hack
Yes it was, there was not a single thread that didn't devolve into people going on about how MGSV was overbudget, that this game was a walking simulator, that it was never coming out and pretty much every goddamn nitpick you could come up with.
The people in Yas Forums who follow Kojima's games have always been some of the most autistic of all, but the past 5 years it's been incesant whining from you, so much that I don't know how mods haven't just decided to ban all these threads.
Hell, you don't even care about games themselves, all you talked about even before MGSV came out was the goddamn plot, and the plot of MGS has always been a fucking joke.
jesus christ i forgot this thing even got released
>Remember when we spent time analyzing every frame and figuring out how they would tie into gameplay?
This never happened.
That happened with MGSV's trailers, with DS it was shitposting all the way through.
Launch day was actually hilarious because how overly edgy and angry all of you were at the mere fact that this game existed.
Oh shit the whole story is invalidated now damn.......
I stopped caring the moment I saw the "gameplay"
>omg the game had a bit of fun with its story, games with good stories are supposed to be ultra-serious, 0/10 fuck off sony ponys cope
I remember being surprised that the game actually lived up to my expectations, put over 100 hours into it.
only other Kojima game I had played was MGS1, and I think it was just alright.
great game.
What's with MGS redditors and their obsession with budgets?
It's literally the only people in this entire industry i've seen who care about that shit.
It's like they paid the game themselves.
>unironically defending dialogue which makes no sense and isn't even a clever reference
Good game. I like it. I want to do an offline replay with no roads/vehicles
They don't, it's just we are in the time of people who get offended over everything.
Game quality isn't enough to be offended by, so they had to one up it and start pretending to be offended because those poor jews spent a lot of money in a game.
They added a camera, so the game is officially good now.
>isn't even a clever reference
Any referential dialogue is garbage, MCU-watching redditor.
It was a great game but it should have been about 10-12 hours shorter.
>literally one(1) silly line negates the entire fucking plot
What's it like being an utter pinhead?
>one stupid line/reference in a good story
>OMG GAME BAD KOJIMA HACK
learn to cope, xbot.
the sad thing about kojima's trailers is that they show very little not because of any artistic vision, but there usually is very little to show. everyone thought the game behind the ambiguous marketing was enormous with MGSV and DS and both were giant disappointments. MGSV on its own is a fine game though
lol nope
Technically the game is pretty well constructed, the problem is that the main gameplay loop can be boring for many people
Wheter it's enjoyable or not is up to the person, ultimately
The actual issues about the game in it's structure are more about the fact that it's generally a bit too easy and that the writing can be very corny at times, see Though i doubt that would be much of a problem to people who enjoy Kojima's game in general, as this is present throught his games
Before you tell me that t's bad because it's boring, boredom is subjective. You could have a litteral game about watching paint dry, as long as a group of people enjoy it, it's an invalid complaint
the dialogue was pretty bad at parts but overall it was a good game
No I remember none of those things because I'm not a complete psychotic nigger like you people are.
I'm only on Yas Forums to hone my writing and critical thinking skills, not to actually engage in consoomerism.
I enjoyed the movement mechanic. never though I would enjoy just hiking across a level, but I did
I love it though, on my third playthrough and enjoying it more than ever
>Wheter it's enjoyable or not is up to the person, ultimately
Everyone says this is a copout but it is literally the biggest divergence point for most people, a lot of people have no patience and don't enjoy careful, methodical "make number go up" kind of shit. I really dig that sort of thing so I genuinely loved making deliveries and building roads and ziplines and shit to make runs easier/faster but I absolutely get why a lot of people would hate it
People often mention the bad puns like "Princess Beach" and "You are sam bridges", but honestly stuff like that are better understood when you remember how japanese works as a language and that names meaning something important is a trend in japan
What honestly was beyond cringeworthy was the hourglass girl with that horrible acting
And also Fragile with her catchphrases and being unable to form a coherent comeback
That's it really
The game has some minor issues but in my opinion they don't affect the game as it functions enough to discredit it
The rest is up to the player, whether or not it's the kind of game they enjoy
Like Elite Dangerous or games like that
the reason this one got so much flak was the names behind it
i'm willing to bet it would have been better recieved if noone knew who made it
then again, i may be preaching to the choir, i rarely come on Yas Forums
A lot of the dialogue is maximum Kojima goofy, and he went harder on the double entendre wordplay shit in this game than any other game of his that I've played but as stupid as it was I still found a kind of silly charm to most of it. Did you know that strand means beach in dutch
I heard someone say a couple months ago that it's like a weird experimental indie game with a AAA budget which I think fits pretty well
Fuck i think i missed that one
I may be biased about these sort of thing with names, because i absolutely love them when they're not too obvious, but i can understand being a bit much in this one
I thought it was great, but there is a lot of unfulfilled potential.
there were only like 2 forest areas, one was filled to the brim with BT's and the other was in a terrorist zone, so I never really went to either, and they are both tiny anyway.
I was also hoping that the map would be much bigger, and you would spend the entire game moving across it rather than a moderately sized map that you constantly move back and forth in.
sad thing is I highly doubt that there will be games that take direct inspiration from death stranding, Kojima is one of the few AAA devs that has widespread respect, so studios are willing to let him do whatever.
I dont think there is any other AAA studio that would be given permission to make a DS style game by the big studios like Sony or Microsoft or something.
and indies dont have the budget they would need to reach the level of polish DS has.
Now that i think about it i agree it could have been longer
Something like another couple areas, like more forest biome and a desert one would have been nice considering the geography of america
Though i guess they didn't want to overdo it
I like double meanings too but it did get a little goofy in this after a while because it never stops, and none of them were subtle at all. Cliff, Sam Porter Bridges, AmeLIE, Deadman, Fragile but not that fragile, Mama, chiralium, beach, strand, knot, it never stops
I guess it was more subtle for the japanese
Its an odd game all around even for Kojima. Cant believe something like this was made with AAA budget, its a blessing honestly. I was bit skeptical before the release because I thought it would catter to normalfags with all the actors and big budget, but I was wrong, it did the exact opposite. There is just nothing like it, there are games where you hike, games where you ride a truck and deliver, games where you build stuff, but none of them tie it together into one interesting and original package like Death Stranding does.
No. I actually avoided all the cinematic trailers after seeing the way MGSV turned out. I genuinely just looked forward to a weird sci-fi hiking sim and was pretty satisfied. The story didn't impress me at all, though.
But games like Elite Dangerous have some depth (the battle for example). The problem with Death Stranding, at least for me, is that the game has no depth at all, so it's basically something to relax by doing relatively simple tasks.
Honestly, if I need to play games like that, I prefer Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. They guarantee much more hours of relaxation in addition to more addictive progression systems.
The advantage of Death Stranding over these games is the graphics, which are very beautiful. And perhaps the story for those who have the patience to ignore the bad writing.
It is extremely unique yeah, and it scratches an extremely specific itch that not everyone has. I loved the game, even if we're probably never going to get anything like it again I'll still probably replay it every year or two
I guess, but i don't think it lacks depth, you are provided with a variety of options and different encounters
The problem is that it's a bit too easy, so you don't often need all those tools
Aside from that, it's absolutely valid to dislike it, or prefer other titles, i won't argue that it could have been better in some aspect as to make it more universally enjoyable
>The problem is that it's a bit too easy, so you don't often need all those tools
This was probably my biggest issue, MULEs are basically a non issue once you have the bola gun, BTs are basically a non issue once you have the handcuffs that can cut their cords, and both are made into actual nonissues once you build enough roads/set up zipline networks
:DDDDDD
remember how the game is great and you need to cope?
>homerun after homerun
>makes one experimental game that misses the mark but tries something interesting
>gets called a hack
????
I wouldn't even say it misses the mark, it does what it's supposed to do. It's just not for everyone
>normalfag puppy love for DS has subsided so now/v/ likes it
unsurprising
Peoples' last names in the universe related to their work or remarkable attributes, like how Smiths were actually blacksmiths or Millers actually milled flour. Diehardman wears a mask as Diehardman, which is relevant for when he takes off the mask and talks real to Sam at the end, explaining that his reputation wasn't earned, [he was just wearing it].
This isn't a Dark Souls thread.
No because MGSV already had happened and I knew what to expect. Are you telling me there were people who got fooled more than twice with Kojima?
Should've learned after the disaster that was MGSV
>mario and princess beach
I still can't believe that was real.
It did what it was supposed to do perfectly. It hit the mark but there are too many manchildren and shooter dude bros for it to do well commercially.
I knew it was coming and I was still just FLABBERGASTED, easily the low point of the entire game for me and that's coming from a faggot who fell for the kojima meme and loved it otherwise
But he's still President Die-Hardman at the end, the only time his real full name is ever mentioned is in that one email
He got rid of the physical mask in front of the cameras.
He only lowers the psychological mask for Sam, because Sam knows about Cliff and him at the beach.
Low point of the game is where Amelie talks the plot to you for 30 minutes while you sit down and be humble.
I mean, I like cheesy, campy shit. I liked a lot of the MGS games. But I seriously flat out thought that line was a joke when people were posting the silent webm's with subtitles here on Yas Forums until someone posted a youtube video. I had one of those mouth hanging opening and slowly laughing in disbelief reactions.
no
>the story was good
>requires literally LITERALLY an hour of exposition near the end of the game
I bet you won't tell me why the extinction entities were all shaped like humans
The story was good. It was just written like shit.
