This game is FUCKING SLOW

Didn't you know what you signed up for? This is why I hate people who shit on ffxiii. Ffx gives you the airship one second before you go to the final dungeon to beat the game. It's linear as all fuck for 90% of the game. Ff9 you have to play at least 20 hours before any sort of meaningful exploration. But ffxiii? Does the exact same thing and you don't get to explore until 20 hours in? WORST GAME OF THE SERIES OHH NOOO ITS FUCKIN HALLWAY SIMULATOR Gotdamn retard stupid bitch cunt nigger fucker I hate you fucking KEK FURRIES!!!!!!!!!

Genuinely the most overrated game in the series. Why is there fucking input lag in the menus, is that just a problem with the switch port? Why does everything take so fucking long for literally no reason? Why not focus on the best characters in the party, Vivi and Freya instead of this lame ass MC and the cookie cutter love interest?

I timed everything.
-12-15 seconds from splash screen to opening camera pans to characters appearing.
-0-10 seconds for ATB bar to fill based on where it starts.
-Enemy always gets the first attack, so you have to wait 5-30 seconds for their attack animation to happen.
-After selecting commands, playable characters just sit there like idiots until every previous characters animations complete, plus 2-3 seconds before starting their own animation. Average of about 20 seconds per character attack and double that for any skills or magic.
-At end of battle you have to watch the victory animation and see a separate screen.

Even the fastest battles were over a minute. Most battles average about 2-3 minutes. This is fine for a boss battle, but atrocious in a game with mobs. For comparison, a Dragon Quest or Suikoden game, battles can be as short as 5 seconds.

The hilarious people are the ones who complain about Chrono Cross being too slow, then obsess over FFIX. When they're using the same engine.

You can turn up ATB speed in the options

I used the mod that sped up battles to FF7 and FF8 levels. Was way better after that.

Might be misremembering but pretty sure you can skip the panning shot so that's a non-isule.

I would say PC/Steam + Moguri mod for the ai upscaled environments unless you want a purist experience then emulate

PS1 on a CRT and with an original non analogue controller.

I decided to try VIII myself actually and am having a blast. Nearing the end of disc 2.
Junction system clicked with me after ~8 hours and I started enjoying it, but if you don't like it then you'll hate the game.

Absolutely not true, but even so yes the battles are way too long. This coupled with steal rates being so fucking low makes trying to get rare items early a nightmare.

Chrono Trigger is better than all the best parts of all the FF games combined into one theoretical super hybrid game. Better plot, better combat system, better characters, better art, better endings, better everything.
And I know that sounds absurdly hyperbolic, but I feel like I've given it a lot of thought and can't come to any other conclusion.

Never had input lag on the PS1 version and i beat it again last year.

The best thing about the junction system is that it can break the game within the first hour if you know how to use it. That's kind of amazing, but also kind of fucking stupid for how long the game is. Triple Triad is still the game's best (and arguably only good) feature.
