I think the game is fine it's just that the levels are way too long and I can't really play for more than an hour at a time before the gameplay loop starts to feel tedious.

the only fucking crime Doom Eternal did to the spirit of the original Doom is bloat the game up with so much upgrades and skill trees. the suit upgrades are unnecessary, the runes are unnecessary, and the weapons mods should've been just scattered throughout the levels just like the weapons themselves.

When playing Eternal I felt honestly limited. You have so many tools and weapons, but you can't use them all unless you wait for cooldowns or you're hunting for ammo/using your executions "properly".
Eternal is fun and has an insane amount of tools, but it becomes consistently tiring to play the way the game asks you to.
2016 just gives you a ridiculous wave of enemies and the ridiculous arsenal to hold W and meatgrind through all of them, and it's still refreshing to go back to even after playing Eternal.

Spent most of the game with ss the moment I found it and never run out of ammo thanks to chainsaw. Only switch to minigun/bfg for big guys, marauder and bosses.
