What are the best space and space exploration games?
What are the best space and space exploration games that aren't too hardware demanding (my computer is already five years old)?

Stellaris is pretty good these days, but you might have trouble running it if your CPU is weak
>(my computer is already five years old)
Yes, and? My CPU, RAM and MOBO are 9 years old, and GPU 4yo. I can still run anything at 1080p/60fps.
Check the Space Engineers and DEEP ROCK GALACTIC.
X3 - Albion Prelude/Terran Conflict
It has a learning curve to it but if you wanna lose yourself during this pandemic, it's a very chill way to go.
spaceengine, but if your CPU is weak you can give celestia a shot
>that art
Scavenger SV-4
It's a nice, short, atmospheric game about remotely exploring a distant planet via a rover, while you stay on a small ship orbiting the planet. It doesn't have much depth or content, but does a superb job at making you actually feel isolated in a strange and desolate corner of the galaxy.
this is a beautiful picture. I wish there were actual space games like this
Got to be Elite Dangerous. With VR nothing comes close but I guess you dont have it after your description of your computer.
Even without it is up there with the best.
source of picture?
Mass Effect desu
Elite Dangerous is really the only correct answer here.
Honestly if you play in VR it comes close to giving this sense of scale too
Right answer right here, finding derelict ships early on is hella cool.
Motherfucking Freelancer
It just sucks how much the campaign railroads you and then after you're done with the story, you already have all the best shit pretty much.
Not really exploration but Homeworld captures the feeling of going off into the unknown better than most
>all the best shit
Not by a long shot. The Anubis is barely better than the Rheinland fighter and can't compete with any of the other VHFs, which outclass it significantly.
Avorion
The Outer Wilds
Mass Effect 1
Freelancer
Homeworld 1
Kerbal Space Program, it's a very technical game but sense of accomplishment you get from landing on planets with your crafts is something you can't find in any other game.
Elite Dangerous sucks dog dick now, fuck Braben and fuck his vision.
Why? because of the carrier shit? Just dont buy one.
Starsector
it get a little stale after a time but mods can keep it somewhat floating. beware its 2d but excellent at what it does.
Plus he wanted a space exploration game, E:D is terrible for that.
>you already have all the best shit pretty much
not even close. the anubis is a piece of shit compared to the endgame VHF's, not to mention that can find much, much stronger weapons to equip than what you have when you finish the campaign.
What you really mean to say is that once you finish the campaign theres pretty much no content left for you other than exploring and finding said ships and weapons, but then you dont really have anything you can do with the endgame stuff other than shoot endlessly respawning nomads or pirates.
I really wish freelancer got an expansion for this exact reason, such wasted potential.
Came here to post this. I'd also add that you need an attention span to enjoy the game. Even with 10x SETA it can still take quite a while to do things that you want to do.
>but then you dont really have anything you can do with the endgame stuff other than shoot endlessly respawning nomads or pirates.
Even mods don't fix that fundamental issue since the campaign's shit is semi-hardcoded.
What about No Man's sky and Eve? How demanding are they?
This is kinda what I have been looking for. I will definitely check that one out.
Random space thread on /wg/ ages ago.
Outer Wilds
Starsector and Freelancer can scratch that itch on a brick.
Have you guys checked underspace? game plays similarly to freelancer. It's not out yet but its worth checking out
Mass Effect: Andromeda is great
user, I made Underspace.
have some star citizen kino
well shit, if you are who you say you are then fck me. I was in a space thread like this one a few days ago which a dev was also in it which introduced me to Underspace
What's this artist's name again?
Elite dangerous
Imperial Cutterchad reporting in
I'll shill Freelancer to anyone who asks for space exploration games, it really can't be beat in that aspect.
When is it going to release you big gay baby
KSP and next year KSP2
Still the king of space after all these years
Also Kerbal
I agree with you on that one. None of these recent games can give you a similar feel to what freelancer had.
Hurry the fuck up faggot
Probably this year still, but while the coronavirus hasn't affected me it has affected some of my artists working on assets.
Thanks user, does it play well in coop ?
Fuck space exploration
What are the best space opera games?
I hope they get well Dev user to be honest Underspace looks promising. hoping it gives back the same feel freelancer had. Btw will the game have some kind of coop in the campaign?
gas giant airbreaking always felt so damn amazing
user you know the answer. There's only Mass Effect unfortunately.
Freelancer is dogshit.
Post your face when you realize you were born way too early ever explore space and set foot on another planet or moon in this Solar System. It fucking sucks I'm stuck to die on this shithole of a planet with nothing to show for it.
>Btw will the game have some kind of coop in the campaign?
Not in the campaign for singleplayer, multiplayer is like Freelancer's multiplayer, but it has its own campaign/main quest.
>tfw you'll never live to see the age of giant metal space sphincters
CHAD
Definitely try Parkan 2, it's old, but looks good and got a lot of interesting features, like boarding, planetary battles with your army of bots, and base building.
Well that's something to look forward too.
Space Rangers HD
Eve is free to play. Go try that shit.
ok eceleb sperg
It's not like you would have ever been remotely qualified to explore the stars either
user user!
Please say "I HATE NIGGERS 1488 RACE WAR NOW"
Please say that, pleeaaaaaaase
No.
That's complete bullshit but I believe you
wut?
>finding derelict ships early on is hella cool.
doesn't it suck the fun out of the game if you start it up and go pick these ships up and have everything at once? every beginner guide I see does this and it feels like cheating to me
I've probably spent a good 30 hours exploring in Elite Dangerous and I gotta say it's pretty bad
He just posted his kickstarter edit button
In the long run a couple small to medium sized ships doesn't matter that much. The scale of the game is insane.
No because it's fighters in a game where you'll eventually be flying capital ships. The real suck part is that there's only like four or five of these ships when there's a shitload of sectors and that's ALL there is to really find since most sectors are fairly generic and follow similar patterns with little to no unique elements.
>Play E:D
>Space is big, empty and boring
Sounds pretty accurate
Starsector is space mountain blade if you're into that
Maybe next gen can bring us something close to that...?
>dude 0.2c speed limit lol its r e a l i s t i c
fuck this game
I tried this game for like 2 hours, everything was super complicated and they just dropped me into the game and I had no idea what to do.
Maybe I should pick it up again...
Why not X4?
Homeworld is close.
