Pistols are usually a minimum of 9mm, but assault rifles are like 5.56mm. Pistols are shooting a bullet almost twice as big, so of course they're stronger.

Because special forces don't use standard issue rifles? There was never a variant designed for special forces either. At best the paras will use L22s but that's it. SOCOM use MK18 CQBRs, M27s, and MK16/17s. Not the standard issue Colt M4. NATO and allied special forces generally use the same kit.
