You'll probably never use the extended analog sticks and the alternate d-pad that you see the in picture there is a downgrade from my experience with the one fighting game I played it with. You'll constantly be accidentally putting in inputs that you didn't mean to. Also the rubber grip started to come off the back of mine and after an update for W10 made it so that mine wouldn't connect anymore I remember having to spend several hours to find a workaround. Eventually I just bought cheap dualshock and other than the materials the things are made out of it's better in every way.

because it is not the primary movement input for 3D games, thus the analog stick goes at your thumb's rest position and the dpad goes below it where you have to move your thumb slightly.

DS3 was fucking awful

DS3 is essentially a DS2 dude, it's the last classic SONY controller.
DS4 has no pressure sensitive buttons, try playing classic GT or MGS with one.

If I use my ps4 controllers my hand rests on the analog sticks naturally because the controller is much bigger. The d-pad on analog stick on xbox cont are higher than ps1 d-pad position.
btw I have both because I use xbox controller for PC games(easier to attach) and got used to the position of the analog overtime but I still play longer hours with the ps4 controllers without my hand getting tried

it's not a matter of controller size, it's a matter of handle placement. in that regard the ds4 is even more designed to leave your thumb at the dpad, the handles are slightly less angled, though it's barely noticeable. also you are exaggerating the size difference, the ds4 is barely larger than its ancestors. the point is, again, the dualshock's analog sticks are not born of a nascent design philosophy but simply jerryrigged onto their existing controller quickly so that that could compete with the n64's (admittedly worse) stick. it might work great for you but there is a reason that every newly designed controller from companies other than sony go with staggered sticks, sony sticks with what they have not due to ergonomics but due to legacy and branding.

because for most games, you use face buttons more than the stick. only shooters use stick more in general, and even they often make hefty use of face buttons.

no, you use the left stick to move and the face buttons to attack, interact etc., and only touch the right stick to make slight adjustments (most games have fairly generous automated camers or lockon) or when looking around when nothing is happening.
