The main argument was that no one is going to buy timed on exclusives on Epic.
Most of the timed exclusive deals were fairly successful.

Imagine justifying shoveling millions towards trash like Shenmue 3 for your pet project, then telling investors that the idea is that we need to keep doing this for a decade to beat Steam, and even if we "beat" Steam we won't make half of what they do because we're taking a smaller cut for no reason and the actual consumers don't give a shit about muh 30 percent.
Tim is the majority stake holders so he can do what he wants but only to an extent. With Fortnite sales continuing to go down you can only make so many bad decisions before legal action starts getting whispered if the store doesn't become solvent.

Paid exclusives isn’t competition and EGS’ store front is incredibly lackluster compared to Steam, Origin and GoG. It also didn’t help that they marked themselves as incredibly desperate for said paid exclusives and strong-arm tactics by buying off fully-funded Kickstarter games.
Also, you talk about Steam’s 30% cut and yet you forget that Discord had their own store had an even lower cut than EGS ir how itch.io doesn’t even have a pay cut.
