Final Fantasy era has been over since Final Fantasy 13 came out. They used to have nice graphics but they don't even have that anymore. Final Fantasy is on the same level as Tales games.

Ill refuse to play persona because the artstyle is one of the ugliest artstyles ive ever seen in the history of videogames
I cringe at it and at chaterine artstyle, its like horror anime or ugly anime.
I also cringe at a character that shoots itself in persona 3 to cast stuff.

Honestly, the Final Fantasy era has been over since the 7th gen started. Ever since then it hasn't even come close to living up to the Final Fantasy name that was a big deal prior to 7th gen.

persona games are visually bold, distinct, stylish, with a lot of attention to detail (such as the thematically-appropriate ui design). this is the biggest advantage that final fantasy used to have over other series until the transition to hd game development caught up to square.
p5 perfected the "one more" system, making combat feel fast and fluid in a way that ff's combat hasn't been since x-2.
persona's modern urban setting feels more down-to-earth than the star wars bullshit that modern ff has become obsessed with. the newer games' calendar/social sim makes people feel more immersed in the world of persona.
modern persona games are also around 100 hours long, so people who buy them feel like they're getting their money's worth and then some.

That's not true. No one considers FFXV the definitive RPG over Persona 5 and that sold far more. The reputation of a game isn't based on its sales. Symphony of the Night didn't sell that great and it's still considered a classic in its genre. Resident Evil 6 sold a shitton, but it's not considered a good game. Sales cannot save the perception of a game.

Yeah.. no. Biased Metacritic scores mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. You also have to consider the fact that Persona titles take years upon years to develop because Atlus struggles to properly maneuver a proper development schedule, on top of them pulling the same bad practices as Gamefreak of all companies. If any JRPG series is the flagship for the genre nowadays, it's Xenoblade. Regardless of what you feel about the franchise, it has heart.
