The twists are extremely obvious and telegraphed way well in advance, yet the characters insist on being retarded and it takes forever for them to move the fuck on. Everyone repeats the same sentences over and over and then the protagonist recaps everything for good measure, yet the characters keep ignoring extremely obvious clues (like pic related). Was this aimed at children? Mentally stunted young adults?
I don't remember 999 being so awful. But to be fair, I played it almost a decade ago.
>Was this aimed at children? Mentally stunted young adults? It's a Japanese game. What do you think?
Thomas Powell
I'm pretty sure it says Dio, same as the 11037 thing in Danganronpa. He's the obvious killer anyway, what else can it be.
Lucas Garcia
It's a shame it's so disappointing, since the author was apparently learning from Western mystery writers (see pic, it's one of the notes from the game).
No idea why he felt the need to dumb it down so fucking much though. Most of the text in the game is just a waste of your time, it doesn't even have any good banter.
Heard ZTD was even worse? What's the deal with this series anyway?
I played 999 years ago and I remember liking it. Played AI Somnium recently and loved it, thought VLR would be great, but really disappointed so far, about 8-10 hours in.
Xavier Martinez
LEON is still from her perspective, just written against the wall. 106 isn't. It would take more thinking to write it mirrored.
Juan Reyes
>When the hell does it get good? Better question. Why are you playing games from a dead series. Let this series RIP.
Henry Foster
I fucking hate how they ended the series I really liked 999 and VLR even with VLR's weird 2.5D transition Then they shit the bed with ZTD
Brandon Jones
On ZTD the author scraped the original script to make one that catered to more general audiences. Not even kidding.
Leo Phillips
Doesn't VLR break almost every, if not every one of those rules?
Asher Martinez
She wrote it on her other leg. She closed her legs, and it rubbed off on to the other side so when they found the body it was from that angle. The real question is why she wrote it as dIO
Bentley Martin
That’s the meta joke. Rule of thumb with mystery games, but especially Japanese ones, is that if they explain shit like that to you directly it’s because it’s going to be subverted. Literally no reason to bring it up otherwise.
Camden Martinez
How can you like 999 but the others? 999 was the simplest one
Joshua Lopez
Huh, so I was right indeed.
Here's another thing, tell me if I guessed this right: Zero is Sigma from the future and Phi has that same parallel timeline knowledge power as Junpei and June from 999. If I'm right I guess I'll just drop this.
Caleb Sullivan
Average gamer isn't average mystery reader, of course difficulty is much easier. Japanese people love Knox, but you're ignoring the fact that unlike in West, in Japan mystery genre has remained massive for around past hundred years, with all positive and negative consequences that came from that. There are many complaints in the West that Japanese mystery games (AA, DR, ZE, WTC, etc) are way too wacky and outlandish, but it's the norm in Japan because over all these years they exhausted traditional mystery completely and have to attract readers with insane murder tricks (see: infamous seesaw trick), complex motives (see: 999), and borderline fantasy settings.
Bentley Clark
You are almost correct, there are still a lot of twists besides these though.
Luke Morgan
Not him but you're kind of right, still missing a few things though. >Zero is Sigma from the future. You're half right but that's not exactly it. Phi has parallel timeline knowledge Yes but she's not the only one. There's also several other plot twists that you don't know about.
Carson Smith
Imagine being the kind of retard to make a thread about a story-heavy game in the middle of playing it. I really hate the rabble that's been invited to this site over the years, I really do. You can see the discussion quality go right down the drain. I've watched the average IQ of Zero Escape threads go down in real-time. Yes I'm mad.
Justin Watson
Are those twists worth 20 (?) more hours of reading though?
I feel like they just telegraph all of this shit way too in advance and I'm just going through the motions waiting until the characters stop being retarded and put 2 and 2 together.
At least the escape room puzzles are kinda fun I guess. But there's way too much pointless text between them.
>20 That's how much it takes in total. You didn't find flowchart or something?
Levi Lopez
>reads spoilery reviews before playing >complaints that he knew these beforehand Was this part of your master plan?
Evan Hughes
There's a flowchart built into the game, why would I need to follow some guide? HowLongToBeat says the game is roughly 30 hours long.
There are no spoilers in that review. If I already knew the twists, why would I be asking things in this thread?
Just curious if the game is worth playing further, are the other routes that much different? Or still the same slow ass shit where everyone acts stupid and ignores clues just to drag out the game?
Caleb Watson
How far are you into the game? How did you come to the conclusion that Zero is Sigma from the future even though you're only kind of right?
Asher Hall
It got good in 999. Everything afterwards got progressively worse. The only thing I felt VLR did better was the flowchart and having an ending tied to each character.
Not him, but I pretty much guessed that this game would have the "You are Zero" twist in some way after Akane was technically the player in the last game.
Kayden Davis
So you didn't find "skip until unread text" button? It's obvious that you was antagonistic towards the game from the start because your friend forced you to play it or something, go tell your friend that he has shit taste, burn all bridges, and end it. No need to force yourself through the game.
Evan Edwards
I got that from the Security Room's sentences.
I did K's ending and am now on what's supposedly Dio's route I think.
>Security Room's sentences. What did it say that implied that twist?
Jeremiah Richardson
>come to conclusion He said "guessed", which is just meta knowledge of the genre and the game. He probably heard about "you are Zero" twist before he even launched the game.
Austin Jackson
As I mentioned in an earlier post I enjoyed 999 when I played it years ago on the NDS, and then I also played AI: Somnium Files recently, also by Uchikoshi. I figured VLR could be a fun VN to tackle but it's really disappointing so far.
Jacob Hill
ALIEN FAX MACHINE
Zachary Nguyen
I WAS YOU WILL BE ME SHE KNOWS EVERYTHING
Seemed pretty straightforward?
>He probably heard about "you are Zero" twist before he even launched the game. No, I did not. Although I knew about the parallel timeline thing, since both 999 and AI Somnium did it.
Christopher Reyes
>when does it get good Unironically at the beginning it's cool, then it's boring and then the end blows your mind and it had a point and a reason to exist.
Dominic Ramirez
Shhh, that's the sequel.
Charles James
Listen, you are a fucking retard. Go back, play it trough completely, and then come back. Otherwise, you are a fucking retard. /thread
Caleb Ramirez
>spoiler Ok fair enough. What's crazy, at some point when I was playing the game I also guessed that Zero is Sigma from the future just like you, but I think I was a little farther in the game than you. But you know what? The ending Zero reveal still blew my mind and I never saw it coming.
Dylan Jenkins
Let the guy do whatever he wants. If he wants to get spoiled because the game is a poorly-written bore fest, let him.
Lincoln Smith
was it explained why clover is dressed like a slut?
Jack Rogers
>poster count didn't go up Sure, OP.
Guys, just stop replying to this thread, OP is some schizo attention whore who wants people to keep trying to convince him to keep reading and he'll always reply with "but it's baaaad".
Parker Fisher
It's just so weird to me, AI: Somnium Files (a more recent game by Uchikoshi) had really good pacing and generally enjoyable writing, so I decided to check out his earlier games, and it's such a stark contrast. Was 999 this bad too? I played it almost 10 years ago so I don't remember it that well, outside of the important plot beats.
E.g. Dio and his knife are telegraphed all the time, yet the characters still keep ignoring the clues and constantly going "OH I WONDER WHO'S THE KILLER". Now it's just K and him, but Sigma and Phi are still unsure who keeps killing people. It's so fucking dumb.
Jaxon Wright
The twists are like swiss cheese, including the big revelation. What a fucking joke.
Logan Cooper
Are you sure they aren't in a different timeline? Obviously the player will know Dio is bad, but if Sigma is in a different timeline where they haven't experienced it, they wouldn't know.
And yes I know they're espers but sometimes there are things they can't remember or whatever.
Jeremiah Wright
>when you're the schizo seeing schizos everywhere I'll give you your (You), I guess.
Well, I'm not Superman, that's for sure. And I'm not Batman, or Spiderman, or Aquaman, or a merman, or a wolfman. I'm not a brahman, or common, or ramen. I'm not a caiman either, so you don't really need to worry about anything
