Sephiroth traveled back in time from AC and began messing with the timeline. The time ghosts try to correct it. Several scenes occur where time ghosts interfere, like catching a falling Aerith or urging Hojo who’s about to tell cloud he ain’t a soldier.

At the end the party is shown future events from the original game like Aerith’s death and Red running with the cubs. Red says that scene is a future that will occur if they don’t defeat the time ghosts, so they do defeat some and now the timeline is changed. Biggs is alive and an alternate Zack lives based on the Stamp the dog photo being very different

If you're not a child most probable is that you are not into shōnen anime. Old game had summonings, overpowered characters and monsters etc. but yu could play a little with your imagination. It didn't need to be Naruto. Previous game triumphed because of world building, atmosphere, characters, good story, pacing and music. At least 3 of those are now fucked up

The only argument I can piece together is that you shouldn't buy it out of the principle that they lied and this was false advertising. They led people to believe this was a semi 1 to 1 remake for 4 years and then presented them something entirely different. One could make the argument that they didn't technically lie because they said ahead of time this product held little cohesion to CC and AC, those were our warning signs, or that they explicitly stated this was a retelling of the original and things would change. Yet that only allowed changes to a degree of 10 to 20% of the original story, not 75%. I'm still gonna buy it, I wanted to not know what the fuck is going on and the sadness cancer to be cured from aerith's death and my retarded ass is getting just that.

After the false advertising of this game, I just can't bring myself to buy it, not even for Tifa
