Rape is bad and obviously the stakes have to keep rising with each new villain. So they couldn't go from Kamosneeda to just some art fraud, they have to force him to be an ebil murderer for no reason and it just makes them silly

They never actually did a good job of tying in the villains to the main cast. Maderame could have been good, but they should have dropped the "I killed your mom Yuske" bomb earlier, instead of seconds before you fight the boss.

i dont even doubt the believability of madarame or anything like that, he just doesn't antagonize you like kamoshida did so you care less about taking him down. it's why shido is so satisfying to take down by comparison.

When I played it I was sure the big twist of that arc was going to be that Madarame was Yusuke's biological father and had abandoned him and his mother before taking him back in and using him. Would have had more emotional impact that way imo

I feel the problem with the other villains is that they get less hate if they were rearranged. If Kamoshida was one of the later ones, the other ones wouldn't get as much flak, as you naturally expect things to escalate from beginning to end.

Kamoshida was a great villain because he was a malicious, easy to hate threat and got his comeuppance in a satisfying way.
Kamoshida did everything wrong and got what he deserved.

Kamoshida's impact on the plot and everything about him was very well done. I don't think anyone quite tops him, though many other equally awful people come really close.

I know it's been repeated numerous times, but I am playing Royal now and I still feel this way.
Having Kamoshida be the first villain set up the rest of the game as a mild disappointment. He's the best villain by a country mile, and all the others seem lame in comparison.

Kamoshida was great, but his arc was also better than the rest because of how hopeless the situation seemed and kept getting worse. Once PTs get their Personas, everything becomes too easy. It's also why the game gets better again after Okumura's death.

It's pretty common practice in video games to frontload all of the good content to hook the player in so they can spend less money on the rest of the game.

Except for the fact that he raped underage girls and physically and psychologically abused underage boys under his tutelage.

I don't hate Kamoshida for his motives or even his actions.
As someone who has done a lot of psychological research as a hobby, I can honestly say that a solid 60% of the people in this thread would do the exact kind of shit he did. That's not to say that he's not a shitty person but that is to say that power like that can corrupt a person to the point where they think that the wrongs that they are doing are actually them trying to get a reward for their self-perceived hard work.

The main reason why I hate Kamoshida is because his palace is difficult for the same reason that Okumura's palace is difficult. It deliberately attempts to stall you out by forcing you into fights where you have to spend SP which at that point in the game is EXTREMELY valuable and shouldn't be wasted.

Royal kinda fixxed this a bit by having enemies occasionally drop SP regen items but it's too infrequent for it to be relied on.
