It's the best one, actually.
It's the most original one, has the most interesting enemies, the dlc has the best design.
but man it just goes nowhere by the end.
it's pretty solid and always good fun, but it's also frustrating as hell.
i'd say if you want fun value, ds1/ds3, if you want a really atmospheric, slow paced game that will mercilessly fuck you over multiple times and seriously challenge you, scholar of the first sin version is the definitive one.
Get scholar of the first sin edition. it's kino.
If you have to ask, no.
It’s absolutely based
It's frustrating, ugly and mediocre. Play it with a friend.
It's the worst one, actually.
Fpbp
Maybe you should try it for yourself?
These games go on sale all the time
if your beating 1 then play this one too!
fucking duh!
Better than 3, not as good as 1
It's worth playing to form your own opinion. DS3 is more polished of course, but DS2 is open enough from the beginning and allows many more unique playthroughs. That's what I personally value over the polish, and DS3 just doesn't deliver in replayability imo.
Yes. Actually replaying it now after a couple years away. It’s so great
SOTFS is better than DS1.
Make sure to play SOTFS.
Also, do the one unique thing this game does and use dual blades. Also use the dual blades stance, I think it was holding triangle or something.
this is your brain on low-intellect, when you play dark souls like a fucking theme park ride
DaS2 SotFS > DaS R >>> BB >>>> DaS3 >>DeS
I like theme parks.
Yeah, to Power Stance weapons you need to meet the base value of the highest STR and DEX + half that, then you hold triangle or Y.
So like if you got a 10/10 weapon, you need 15/15.
I sense a knight's joyous elation...
It has its ups and downs. Admittedly I had to try it a couple of times before I grew to like it and eventually finish it. Eventually I got there though and I even replay it from time to time. I'd recommend trying it out if you liked the first one.
scholar was not made for you, don't play it
worst and easiest one.
Yet, still an excellent game. Go for it.
It's worth it if you can get it for free/really cheap and need a massive laugh since due to the absolutely nightmare of a development circle it's filled to the brim with shit that has to be seen to be believed.
They're all easy.
Soul
>easiest one
Well, from a sorcerer's perspective, Dark Souls 1 is the easiest. Even though you can farm bestest thing ever - Soul Spear spell - (and souls) with bonfire a. item.
i dont get it
2 is the hardest for twinkers. They made it possible in the SOTFS but its extremely challenging to do in that game.
The jail cells of the building are just floating boxes that are stuck onto the walls that you can clearly see from the outside and trees are even clipping through them.
It's ok, but noticeably worse than DeS, 1, 3, BB, Sekiro. Plus Scholar of the First Sin pretty much just crams every area with 50 enemies like it's Dynasty Warriors.
Also, Dex build+Espada Romoera+Bow+Burnt King Crown+buffs= you broke the game
Dex is extremely OP in this game. Strength weapons suck aaaassssss in this game. Regular bows can shoot multiple consecutive arrows, by the time you're on your second arrow with a great bow you shot 6 with a regular bow.
The base game is shit. The expansions are what make it worthwhile.
So an architecturally unique jail which has been eroded by time?
It's a really solid game with a load of content if you can get into it, but it's different from DaS 1 and if what you really want is more DaS 1 you're probably better off emulating Demon's Souls (or tracking a copy down, w/e) then jumping to DaS 3 and coming back when you want something a bit different. If you're not totally obsessed with more of exactly what 1 was, there's still fun there. There's a lot of cool mechanics that aren't in the later games and some really solid bosses especially in the DLC, but there's also some really questionable shit.
Main thing to know if you're just going to jump in is that your dodge I-frames are now tied to a stat called Agility which is governed by another stat called Adaptability. If you want dodging to not feel like shit you need to pump agility up to 105 (32 points in Adaptability) so you get the same number of I-frames as DaS 1. I think they did this to try and make blocking more viable by making dodging less viable, i.e. rather than the standard for the other games where Parrying>Dodging>Blocking they tried to make it so that Parrying>Dodging=Blocking which was an okay idea but the execution is fucking awful and you should just dump points in adaptability to get around it.
To me this is the most complete and original game of the series. Of course, play SOTFS. However op you have to be quite patient. The first two areas of the game are pretty annoying for new players along with the hollow system so just be careful. Once you're past the fist two/three bosses it gets better and better and more enjoyable. It's not linear and you always have different routes to take which is cool if you get tired of an area.
I recommand you start a quality build since at 40/40 you can wield nearly all the weapons with no fth/int req + powerstance a good number of them.
Have fun OP. After you're done with the game, I'm pretty sure you'll be disappointed with dks 3.

This is absolutely required
Skip it.
the only thing i dont like is
>you can get hit while crossing fog
>they purposely put enemies right near it with some obstacle like a switch you have to hit first
>all the other annoying mobs you just ran past have now caught up
>only way around it is to slog it out every time or just kill them 10 times so they stop respawning
And apparently scholar is even worse like that.
There is nothing interesting about refighing slow annoying packs when you are just trying to get to the boss again.
Not sure I agree with the DaS1 curve, it's pretty consistent up until Anor Londo (though Anor Londo itself is definitely a bit jank compared to the earlier areas) and then it kinda drops off a cliff after that.
That's more like it
I agree with the DS2 curve, but the lows were more frequent, and very low, and the highs very high.
DS3 would be a flat, consistent line with a peak at Boreal valley
what are Ds1's declines?
Ok shitposter, what causes the first spike on Dark Souls 2?
>It's the most original one
Not compared to DS1. It’s a step-down from that game in every area regarding its PvE: World building, NPCs, environmental details, etc.
Literally no one cares. It's a video game you fucking goober. 99.99% of people that play it aren't architects or engineers and it has literally NO bearing on the gameplay.
After finally getting all the way though DaS, it's really interesting to see how some of the late areas seem so rushed. New Londo was probably the best late area.
>best late area.
It's not a late area, you can go there literally after the asylum, or realistically mid-game after killing Sif.
DS2 had the most color and interesting environments but god the enemy design sucked
Yes b-team I want to fight human with sword as 90% of the enemies
Go watch Mauler’s extensive critique on this game. He’ll tell you everything you need to know about DSII.
Specifically?
Demon Ruins
Lost Izalith
Even the Duke's Archive shows areas where it was rushed.
The catacombs and Tomb of the Giants used darkness as a cope to make a simple, quick environment.
Even Anor Londo showed signs of being rushed... just make everything big and spaced out...
Late as in when you're "supposed" to go though it.
>Mauler’s extensive nitpicks
FTFY user.
Not that guy, but I'd go with something like this. Maybe put Duke's Archive down a level, couldn't really decide.
There are many many many many MANNNYYY problems with DS2 both vanilla and SOTFS.
But what it gets right, it gets very right. The mood of the game is the absolute best of the series.
But what i really want to emphasive is the story.
DS1 set the groundwork but DS2 with scholar is the height of it all.
And then DS3 came along and shit the bed with gwyn wanking.
If the abyss ring and actually getting there wasn't so fucking convoluted, sure. I don't know how you're meant to know to equip the ring and fall without looking it up.
Idk but ds3 is arguably one of the greatest console games I've ever played
>DS2 had the most color and interesting environments
Most color pallettes maybe, simply on having the most content, but the environments are a big step down from DS1 and even DeS.
>but DS2 with scholar is the height of it all.
lmao
I really want an answer to this. Why did From decide to throw the baby out with the bath water when it came to all the good stuff that the story and themes of DS2 brought to the table?
youtube.com
Instead, DS3 added more unnecessary shit that convoluted the lore and established rules.
>Ds3
>Console
>sub 20fps
