Honestly, if this is your first time playing I'd say take advantage of the series FINALLY having EXP share and the ability to swap mid-battle and use the whole party. It was so liberating in this game to actually be able to use everybody, since you get attached to all of them during the story. I found swapping on the fly in dungeons to be a lot more fun. I would definitely run Ryuji & Ann against bosses, though.

I ran Makoto for most of the game but brought in Morgana for the final boss.

Not really. Your starting party is fully functional and can carry through to the endgame. The only reason to switch is personal preference.

The art book mentioned that the beta version of Hifumi (so not the final version) was going to be a Phantom Thief who specialized in infiltration tactics but because the game's story was already long her personality got thrown into Makoto and made into a completely different character as a confidant

Hifumi is one of the shittiest s links in the entire series and even in her own game handles a helicopter parent with less tact than an elementary schooler. Kill yourself coomer

It is a shame that we didn't end up getting Hifumi's personality in the party. A lot of overlap with Futaba, to be sure, but a genuine chuuni would be pretty funny.

Look at the stat spread of Makoto's persona tells you exactly the kind of person she is, she's the fucking moron that puts +1 on every stat upon leveling up instead of min maxing like someone with a brain.

Pretty sure the bug got fixed in Royal. Her final move is also a party wide debilitate which is pretty handy for the first phase of the new final boss.

That was the most painful moment that had to happen because they otherwise had no way to reasonably meet Kaneshiro to push that dungeon forward. And yet they still did it rather than taking a step back and rethinking the story a bit

Deep down Makoto knows that's what she was born to do.

I actually felt that her popping off on Kaneshiro was fine, given that Sae calling her a "useless leech" amounted to someone's mom calling them a "useless leech", plus Ann absolutely shreds her after that too. If anything, I wish they leaned into Makoto being furious in the real world more. I kinda got the sense that they wanted to play up her forceful Metaverse personality while also keeping her "vulnerable" in the real world so that all the otaku didn't feel emasculated, which is really a shame.

Eh, that doesn't bug me so much given that each of the girls get one. Ann's are easily the most powerful anyways for my money, given what Joker is directly saving her from doing.
