"We recently got a chance to talk to Valve programmer and designer Robin Walker and asked him how true these claims are.
“The Boneworks thing is weird,” he told me. “Everyone seems to think that there’s some hidden story there. That’s very confusing to me. I don’t know where that came from. We showed our game to a lot of people in the years we were working on it.
“So, you know, there were definitely those Boneworks guys, and a whole bunch of the other original, you know, Tilt Brush. We showed it to a bunch of those folks.”
During that period of show and tell, one game in particular stood out, and it wasn’t Boneworks. "
The game is awful when you are teleporting though, I turned that shit off immediately, there's absolutely no benefit aside from running away from enemies, which actually, it detracts from the experience, even running away from a headcrab is fun, teleporting is not.
Owen Butler
>valve were more impressed by fucking budget cuts than boneworks Fuck Valve
Jaxson Ramirez
I've played a few dozen VR games and Boneworks remains the only one that made me motion sick. Alyx is great though, even though it won't let me throw bricks to do damage, or beat up enemies with some pipe I pick up, etc physics stuff.
Also why do we hate VNN again? Guy is a passionate nerd, oldschool fanatic.
He is the boy that cried wolf, fake news incarnate.
Colton Hughes
>Budget Cuts made us realise that teleporting wasn’t going to be as destructive to the experience as we assumed it would be.
What the fuck? Why even make free locomotion an option at all then Robin? I mean every time I instantly zip across the other side of the map I lose muh immersion entirely. Plus Boneworks has so much more in common with Alyx than fucking BUDGET CUTS. You know the game focused on STEALTH and MELEE KILLS that Alyx has almost none of and then zero of respectively. Boneworks, while still a mediocre game at least has similar gunplay and free movement. What the fuck is with Valve and making VR into roller coasters and taking the software backwards?
Jack Diaz
If Tyler doesn't livestream his suicide they're not doing enough.
Joshua Adams
>Also why do we hate VNN again? Guy is a passionate nerd, oldschool fanatic.
Compulsive liar, has a huge ego, doesn't actually know shit about half-life outside mainstream knowledge any fan has, believes random troll "sources" with zero proof and claims they are telling the absolute truth, speculates way too fucking much. Example: He claimed that Alyx storyline was re-written completely in 2018 because the old story was shit (no proof to this claim what so ever). Then he makes a video stating that Hunt Down the Freeman was released at the same time. Which forced Valve to instead of abandoning Alyx, re-write the story and release the game so to not ruin the HL image by HDTF and show that a good HL game can still exist. He wasn't speculating, he outright claimed that this was the case because it's completely obvious and makes sense! Most of his videos and claims are like this. I mean, compare his streams of "Build 2046" mod (in a nutshell, the fakefactory cinematic mod of half life 2 beta, with all the idiocy that comes with that), and claiming absolute absurd things about hl2 beta that are proven untrue by simple research, to this wonderful stream dealing only with hard truths that are backed up by either things found directly in the beta, or verified emails from valve employees: youtube.com/watch?v=FIeZ89SnTE0
Charles Long
I hated Boneworks, but I see the potential in it (hopefully the maps they plan to add will be more fun than the rest of the game). Budget Cuts does look like something they hold in high regard, seeing how HL:A would fit right in 2016 with it's handholding mechanics and intrusive comfort options. Hope they fucking make a level editor at least so the community can get more mileage out of their mediocre game.
Owen Powell
what's the context? I don't know what you guys are talking about
Jonathan King
>That Halflife: Alyx announcement stream guy was jizzing his pants felt kinda happy for him but also sad at the same time

VNN claims Laidlaw had a fall-out with Valve. Laidlaw later is confused about such rumors because that's not how things went
VNN claims Valve is working fully on L4D3. Valve claim they are not and haven't been for years. VNN responds that no, he's right, they're lying.
VNN claims boneworks release is the reason Valve delayed gameplay videos from HLA is because boneworks just released and valve are afraid of showing teleport locomotion because it will be seen as outdated. Months later, Valve still releases teleport videos and are confused about such rumors.
He's an absolute nutjob. It would be ok if he was at least a true fanatic, but no, he's just a nutjob. He doesn't know anything about the development or the lore, confuses everything, not interested in small details like a fan should, etc. He's delusional. Take picrelated, a leaked picture of HLA beta. Does this look to you like some sort of temporary rough sketch of a map? Well he's what he said, verbatim: "Look at the oil grease stains on the frames of the door! And how the light refracts within them based on your position in the world. The detail in this game is insane!!!"
WOW MEMBER WHEN GMAN SAID A SIMILAR LINE?? MEMBER?

I think he behaves like most people on Yas Forums do. But we hate him because he's a youtuber. People didn't wait for VNN to spread baseless speculation.
He's definitely overdoing it a lot and spread a lot of rumors that may have harmed Valve more than anything, but at the end of the day he's just a disgruntled Valve fan like most Valve fans.
With how little Valve has communicated with their community over the past few years, he's all we had to keep ourselves up to date. People were so desperate for news from Valve that even those fake news are a breath of fresh air.
Camden Sanchez
I hate every person who spreads lies and pretends to be a fan of something he knows nothing about, famous youtuber or not.
Ethan Watson
Speak for yourself, what kind of retarded logic is that, "I'd rather get rumours and wild guesses tha anything"
Nolan Mitchell
>remembering things is bad, mmkay
Would be like the gman to see that quote and twist it in HL2 but that's reaching far.
Nicholas Watson
Who cares, valves full of douches that fuck over the community.
>b-but they're making fun of this youtuber which is heckin based!
Owen Hernandez
>VNN claims boneworks release is the reason Valve delayed gameplay videos from HLA is because boneworks just released and valve are afraid of showing teleport locomotion because it will be seen as outdated. Months later, Valve still releases teleport videos and are confused about such rumors. He literally has a beta build of Alyx from september with broken smooth locomotion, he managed to prove his claim right by streaming it.
Mason Rogers
>he's all we had to keep ourselves up to date. People were so desperate for news from Valve that even those fake news are a breath of fresh air. jesus fucking christ you're pathetic. they made good games and it sucks that they lost their touch, but it's fucking products from a corporation. get a grip
I never heard of this guy until the Alyx trailer came out. His existence is pointless.
Luke Cooper
I dislike him because he seems like an attentionwhore. Watch any of his videos and it's all whining about what he said how he was right SPECULATION SPECULATION and gibsmedats on patreon. I watched his video on recommended VR setups and it was so full of blatant wrong opinions I'm genuinely surprised r/HalfLife is so rettarded to actually respect him, but it's reddit so yeah.
Jack Ross
Fact: Valve haven't implemented smooth locomotion by September Bullshit: literally everything else stated related to that
Gabriel Hall
>Budget cuts Budget cuts had strong atmosphere in the intro and that was the best part of the game, or so i heard. Nobody liked it outside of that.
Comparatively I heard that a lot of people liked Boneworks. It was janky, but genuinely ambitious with the technology.
Lincoln Hall
It didnt have any diversity and witty dialog like in Alyx

Grayson Martinez
Why would the person who gave him a beta build lie to him about the development of the game?
Kevin Morales
I have the final game and smooth locomotion still feels tacked on and broken.
Ayden Perez
There were some mutts talking to you on the TVs, there was no dialogue, true. I'm not sure if the monologues were witty because I shot the monitors the moment I saw a dumb mutt face talking to me.

Also reminder there’s a fuck ton of assets in the files of HLA referencing both Half Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 despite Valve claiming to have never worked on them.
Brody Hernandez
that's not true at all and you have your facts wrong they have stated multiple times now that they were indeed working on a hl3 or ep3, but chose to drop it the same thing happened with l4d3, which was confirmed to not be in development but that it had gotten some development time before and was canned as well. they never said that they never worked on them.
Blake Cruz
They said their work on l4d was brief, the content in the HLA data mine was far more than that.
Noah Thomas
I wish tyler killed himself already Sooner or later Valve will have enough of his shit and will go balls deep on him just like they did with that german guy that leaked HL2 Beta
well from what i've heard they also used existing games to get to know source 2, like those leaked pics of the l4d2 maps in source 2 we got many years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if those assets were just part of that either way "brief" is what they call it, whatever that actually means only they know fact is: it was in development, then it was canned and officially confirmed that it's not happening for now
Jeremiah Sanders
Based. Boneworks is jank
Jace Cruz
Teleport and melee combat are weird together, but using the gravity gloves like you used the gravity gun in combat seems SO OBVIOUS and so early in the game I was asking for it.
like? i'm not the biggest fan of his but obviously Valve is very prone to cover face, especially with interpolitic bullshit. even the marc laidlaw fallout obviously has some things going on with it they aren't talking about. he even tweeted hes never seen a script or anything outside of the trailer: twitter.com/marc_laidlaw/status/1221901984048926720 I don't know about boneworks but obviously the september build of HLA does not have smooth locomotion even close to ready. Valve can lie too.
Ethan Gonzalez
Why would they? When he's not doing harmful speculations he's doing them amazing publicity, hate him all you like but even if all he says is bullshit it does its job of getting his viewers hyped for Valve's games.
Carter Taylor
>he's all we had to keep ourselves up to date or you could wait for official press releases like someone who isn't a fucking mong.
If they don't communicate about it, it doesn't exist.

>If they don't communicate about it, it doesn't exist.

Blake Johnson
If anything Smash threads should have taught you that the one thing gamers love the most to talk about is yet unreleased/unannounced content.
Anthony Nguyen
Not him, but he's clearly not being literal. Assume nothing will come to fruition unless they announce it, and even then it they could backpedal. Internal tests and prototypes aren't a promise
Andrew Powell
I fucking hate Tyler Mcnigger and love seeing Valve dismiss him as just some cringe lunatic stalker who knows nothing. It completely undermines "his life work" as fucking pathetic as that is lol get rekt mcnigger.
Camden Morgan
>VNN claims Valve is working fully on L4D3. Valve claim they are not and haven't been for years. Dude, they had concept art, and multiple maps leak for it. How dense could you be to not realize that maybe Valve aren't being honest?
Luis Hernandez
Well of course, I never implied anything contrary to that. Trust me I work myself in the game industry. My point was that just because something hasn't been announced that doesn't mean we can discuss and speculate all we want about it.
If anything it's wrong of Tyler of calling his channel VNN when it's mostly speculation.
And yeah, lastly Valve probably lies too. Sometimes it's their best course of action.
Brandon Davis
HE recently said they worked on it up till 2017 and then shelved it. And they also shelved L4Dvr
Parker Cook
>valve shitting on competitors this is a new low. they are slowly turning into ea
Jason Nguyen
good for you m8, though you probably care more about him than he'll ever care about you. I love seeing random anons get mad at e-celebs on Yas Forums.
Aiden Sullivan
The problem is his audience are braindead fans of half life 2 who are thirsty for any kind of snippets of info even if it's speculative in nature.
Mason Cox
As far as i know VNN has never claimed that L4D is in full swing development but only speculated that they could return to it to fill the VR gap from now until another half life.
Hudson Clark
how is that shitting on competitors to say that their game didn't stand out to them more than one other in particular?
Noah Gomez
He's fucking lying consider it's an objective fact that Boneworks was added to the Valve master list, which means that at one point Valve considered it important enough to potentially publish.
William Turner
>competitors Boneworks was built on Steam VR, for Steam Vive, and published on the Steam Store. It pays homage to Half Life in its aesthetics and presentation. Its not a competitor to Valve, its a Valve product that they outsourced. Valve literally makes money on it for fucks sake, how is it competition?
