It seems Valve's still got it

Not really, its looks great don't get me wrong.
But its retcon on all fronts.

A drone army, yeah they do.

if by it you mean horrible, boring, gimmicky style over substance shit games, yeah

Yikes

Eli still died, he had too for G Man to show 19 year old Alyx the corpse and be manipulated by him into preventing it, his death still has impact on the story. Not a retcon.
From Gordon’s perspective Eli died right in front of him, he passes out, and comes to with Eli alive and Alyx missing.

I was a Valve drone up until I played the ending to Alyx, that was enough for me to realise Valve is long gone.

Eli died, is now alive, therefore retconned.

The story just progressed for 13 seconds.
Hell, nobody mentions the other major issues with the game. The ending is the least of thr problems

>CPR is a retcon

How can you cpr someone who had their brains sucked out?

Attached: hazard.jpg (2048x1152, 505.39K)

Perhaps in an out of narrative context if you consider the original plot for Ep3, but in the narrative it’s not a retcon as it did *happen*.

It’s weird that they revived Eli when his voice actor died not too long ago, IMO I found also the dialogue with G-Man saying that they need a strong new (independent woman who don’t need no man) contractor kinda cringe

It's a retcon.

Reading these comments, you shouldn't forget that Yas Forums is always wrong

Gman says that Freeman failed him - what did he do that annoyed him so much, I cant remember?

Yes I mainly made this thread to see all the butthurt anons try and refute

>a tribal man asks how chest compressions can save a life
just because you're a dumb ape doesn't mean aliens can't fix a brain injury

>people actually care about HL lore
lol

People claim it's because he didn't stay in stasis after HL2 and left with the Vortigaunts. I don't think it's the reason. Maybe something that happened after Ep. 2 which we don't see...

>wow really you're just gonna retcon that?
>can't believe the developers can just retcon major story elements in my life

aren’t most of the original team of HL gone by now and weren’t the writers replaced by the crybabies that made fire watch?

I can't believe they retconned alyx's death. What a cop out.

Alyx getting hired was planned since Ep2 at least.

>huge Half-Life fan
>huge VR fan (had a Vive since early 2018)
>HL:A was a 6/10 for me
I'm glad with the good reception, but HL:A was so backwards in design (gun stuck in hand, quick menus, muh teleporting) and gameplay (it was a movie game basically, you can't interact with most of the details on the map because they're baked in, physics were wonky, especially for a Source game) I'm worrying this is the last bang before VR flatlines. If only they bundled up with CSVR/L4DVR or something.

Attached: 1585505265709.png (872x595, 47.3K)

ends with alyx becoming a pawn of gman and setting up the next half life which will probably suck shit since all the original devs and writers left. Or in a more likely scenario, will never happen

he was a negro, it was like removing the appendix for him.

valve really just left these lying everywhere. I touch one and it retcons the last five minutes of my game. what an embarrassment.

>muh teleporting
Isn't there an option to move normally? I've seen people use it, I think

there is, albeit a little slow. There are sections that involve terrain traversal that require teleportation though

Is G-Man the chief time janny?

There is, but you still have to teleport to jump, get through narrow spaces, and Alyx is moving so slow it's like you hold down "walk" button. You'll be teleporting by the end of it because it's so slow otherwise.

He's the opposite of time janny. Time jannies would try to shank Eli at the end of HL:A and bring Alyx back.

>first PC game was half-life
>spend teenage years playing all the mods I could find
>get fascinated by how they work and do simple texture mods since that's all I knew how to do
>play around for hours on hlmv just fiddling with all the doodads of the models and animations from half-life to hl2
>make some really crappy block looking maps since that was all I could figure out
>go to college to learn how to animate and model
>get a job for a while doing mocap work for marvel films
>work dries up, some new stuff is automated now
>Alyx announced and released
>in quarantine, no money, no work, no future prospects with my skills rapidly in decline
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGH /kleiner scream

never actually says that Freeman failed him, just that "a previous hire has been unable or unwilling to perform the tasks laid before him. We have been struggling to find a suitable replacement...until now."

the way he spoke could be that Freeman was either unwilling or was unable to act.

Could be that Freeman was trapped in a border world and unable to act or get back due to G-Man being trapped. Could be that Freeman did a little bit of work after the events of Half-Life 1 and decided that working with G-Man and his employers was not in his best interests.

I think the vort senses how retarded you are and gives you the look of disaproval user

It was alright, yeah.

It felt like too much of the game was just walking through ruins. It's probably the best VR game out there at the moment, but there's still something just... Lacking.

I'd say
>The comparatively smaller scale, Alyx is on foot the entire time and the game itself is considerably shorter once you're not taking everything very slowly like players generally do in VR on a first run-through
>The lack of character moments/worldbuilding, the game gets you to gameplay miles faster than HL2 does which would usually be a good thing, but the promo material left me with the impression that I was going to see more of pre-Gordon life in c17 and I was disappointed by the lack of it
>the lack of enemy variety, the new combine are cool but otherwise the only change we've gotten from HL2+episodes is a single new headcrab type that isn't even very fun to fight
>the lack of weapon variety albeit everything in the game is more fun to shoot than everything in 2, it's not a replacement for an Hl1-tier loadout
>the lack of any truly enlightening revelations about half-life's world to the point where it's becoming a semi-popular belief that the entire game is a simulation in regards to the ending

>sees "VR"

saves on reading time, if nothing else

I will never ever try VR let alone play HLA and there is literally nothing Yas Forumseddit can do about it.

It seems that the test was a great success.
This was a triumph.

To be honest I didn't have a lot of fun with most guns.
Handgun feels like a peashooter, semi auto handgun shotgun is kinda eh, the SMG was simply anti-fun with how you can't reload it when your cell is running out, and how it reloads itself if you upgrade it - just feels unresponsive.
All of the guns basically worked the same too, nothing like a crossbow was present, or some gun that would require the second hand for anything but reloading. Shotgun is the only exception if you upgrade it with the grenade launcher, but it's also pretty boring. Upgrades all sucked, I won't bother with collecting reisin ever again if they don't plan to expand the game in any way (they probably don't, hopefully they'll at least deliver the SDK eventually).
Unironically fucking Pavlov has better guns.

fpbp, valve is literally filled with psychologist to preserve their "good goy" image, valve drones are mentally ill

Attached: 1585425999262.png (319x279, 180.8K)

The writers were Erik Wolpaw (HL2 episodes, Portal 1 and 2), Jay Pinkerton (Portal 1 and 2), and Sean Vanaman (Firewatch, Walking Dead S1),
Also something like 1/3rd of the dev team worked on HL1.

he does it for free

>muh shitty hl story >:'(
dgaf game's fun

true actually yeah

fpbp and absolutely the case
this is your insecure 'master race' trying to justify 1k headsets and pc gaming in general in the year 2020
