PS5 design philosophy makes no sense and is more retarded the more I think about it.

So they have an APU of 36 CU that are overclocked beyond reason. Presumedly as a cost-saving procedure. This is fine. Consoles have always been built with budget in mind. But then Sony also decides to include a highly customized super-fast SSD. This probably costs way more than a regular NvME SSD on the market today while having marginal impact on game performance.

So what was the design philosophy here actually? Why go for such a premium exclusive SSD when the GPU and CPU are dialed down so severely? For a game, graphical compute unit is the most important factor of performance. SSD is good but we may be facing negligible gains from one NvME SSD to the other. I see very little gameplay gains from having such a roided up SSD over better GPU/CPU.

So all this lands on is Sony underestimating SeX and also overestimating their own PR. Nobody is falling for this shit. Nobody is going to be impressed by fast storage. This isn't 1999 where you can sell buzzwords that easily. We have benchmarks now and benchmarks are gonna be extremeley weighing on SeX's favor in almost all scenarios. Especially resolution and frame rate.

So the same thing they always do then? PS1 and PS2 both had notoriously high failure rates and went through several hardware revisions to try to curb that. The PS2 had a ridiculous number of hardware revisions. PS3 was not as bad but still the same shit. I never bothered paying attention to the PS4 but I assume it's still Sony being Sony. This is company that has always demonstrated they have no issue releases dodgy shit and letting the brand carry them. The fact that Microsoft had a major design issue (which they fixed for free which is something Sony didn't do for any of their design issues) in one of their consoles doesn't mean we can now just ignore all instances of Sony's high failure rate. They average over double the industry standard failure rate for electronics. They suck.

The success of next generation is uncertain with the way games are going to be backwards compatible. To have your collection of games boosted by new hardware with a simple patch means Sony has the upper hand when it comes to player base. That could all change but as of now they have the advantage meaning they've got some room to delay the release of the PS5.

If money is an issue, I personally got all the stuff I needed during a big sale then upgraded the graphics card later.
Maybe I'm just jaded but all of the exclusives have been really bad for a really long time so I don't see the point there either.

Neither did any Microsoft console. The RROD meant a failure rate of around 17%. The PS3 had a failure rate of 10%. Industry standard is 3%-5%. After the RROD fiasco was over the 360 failure rate dropped to industry standard but the PS3 failure rate continued to remain above industry standard and actually increased a bit because the slim hardware revision was a piece of shit.

$500 is the limit. Neither side is that stupid to kill their brand over price. $100 more than PlayStation 4 Pro makes sense. I doubt it’ll be $400 but they did say keeping costs low was a top priority. Literally the only reason the storage is such an awkward amount. Regardless, I think the price will be very pleasing. MS is flush with cash and has a much more robust and frankly compelling service offering. PS+ and PSNow are a joke in comparison. If anyone can take a hit on the hardware, it's MS.

Having said that, all Sony need to do is make all PSNow games downloadable, make the service available in more regions and they immediately become extremely competitive.
