Both. One then the other. Two of my favorite animes right there. God damn Japan did so much better when they drew inspiration from without rather than within. Also helped that they hadn't put in the market research that would show they could skimp majorly on quality in favor of moe tiddy. I am so sick of ninjas, Samurais, or ANYTHING in a feudal Japan setting.

Both shows have their lighthearted goofy episodes, and their kick you teeth episodes. Outlaw Star is a little more on the lighthearted end of the spectrum, but it still has its moments.

Before Outlaw Star I never really knew how much I wanted to pilot a space ship just so that I could fly over to another ship and punch it.

A space ship with literal combat grappling arms is the stupidest thing for space opera, but fuck it if it isn't cool

MY favorite thing about the grappler arms, other than the fact that you can punch a space ship, is stuff like the camera swarm that they make a point of highlighting in the show to make something as stupid as melee ship combat into something that might work.

Outlaw Star was prime time Toonami. Not recognizing it is like not recognizing YuYu Hakusho or Ruroni Kenshin or Cowboy Bebop. It's not about watching anime religiously, if you watched Dragonball Z when it aired on Toonami, you at LEAST saw the adds for Outlaw Star. Literally the only way you don't know this is you weren't alive when DBZ aired on TV.

It's 'Magnetic Rose' from Memories, an anime anthology film. I didn't care much for the other shorts, but Magnetic Rose is great.

This game, more than any other game I've ever played, made me think "shit, what I wouldn't give for a sequel that builds and improves upon the original. This game was solid but had a lot of flaws that a sequel could have fixed and been genuinely fantastic.
