I have the style announcer modded to be Dead Weight for D-ranks and I honestly don’t understand how the devs didn’t do that in the first place, given how much emphasis is put on it in the story.

I got a year of enjoyment out of it already.

The only thing that will suck is if the saves aren’t forward-compatible on the PC version / “special edition” isn’t a DLC.

It certainly is complete, I just want more than that. But Vergil has always been the SE character, and costumes are costumes. Legacy weapons wouldn't hurt too, now that the game technically supports adding any amount of them without having to redesign controls.

Playable Vergil mod demonstrates that there’s at least some understanding of how to tweak move properties, given that Vergil was given inputs for Summoned Swords and then their damage values were adjusted and they were given a DT consumption. If nothing else, those devs have figured out pieces of the animation format that nobody is using.

It’d be cool to see fan-made weapons inserted into the game though.

Why is it that even though V has the easiest dance taunt to pull off bar none, he still gets the shortest song with the fastest style gain?

Dante’s takes like 30% longer and you always do it facing the corner with Round Trips spinning behind you and/or Man In The Red active. V’s is an actual piece of gameplay, trying to send Griffon and Shadow at the right targets to stagger and draw aggro while using Griffon’s callback shock to knock away anything that wanders into melee range.

Yes, they did. What's worse, it's exactly what they wanted. If the game had been anything else they would've been fuckin' pissed. The game is basically what 4 was meant to be and should've been. Rather than a new game it's 4+. People are so cemented to the DMC4 formula that anything that varied from being that, but better, and it would've been DmC all over again. Ever since 3 the series has stopped being revolutionary and before evolutionary. It will never try anything new or bold again. THere will never be another DMC1 or 3.

The game isn't bad but it's not great. It's safe. Everything about it is safe. The plot, the gameplay, the enemy design, the BGM, the background design. There is nothing exiting about this game except the fact that it exists.

That's a fair comparison except that none of the P+ games have the exact same combos or the exact same moves, like the exact same input to dodge. Even B2 changed up their returning combos to make it so the player has to learn an entire new list of combos. Yes, she has a whole lot of returning moves, like (her) stinger, transformations and so on, but playing 1 and 2 is not like playing an expansion after a few patches.

I can't deny that Souls games all play the same and even that most P+ games have a formula but that's why it's the ones that diverge from it that are the most loved. W101, MGR, Vanquish. These are their other loved titles while Trsfrms:D and the lot are not so much. Those are the ones they made to pay the bills.

DMC3 had a new director who wanted to make up for the disaster that was DMC2.

Kek Bayonetta 2 literally has 2 weapons taken from Bayo 1. Same inputs, same models, same animations for every combo. DMC5 does more to change DSD from Rebellion than Bayo 2 does to change LIB from SF, too.

I was fine with V's missions, outside of when I was trying to S rank some on HaH, I don't think the game had any frustrating missions really.

Yeah but my point is the core logics and gameplay experience are very similar. Really 90% of what truly sets Sekiro apart is being able to jump. Which is not to say it’s a bad game, just to say that if you’re gonna call 5 nothing more than a glorified expansion pack for 4, you would have to say basically the same of Sekiro for DaS.

This game is nothing like 4. If it was actually 4+/finished 4 I would've liked it. They went out of their way to make the gameplay even easier when 4 was already easy enough. They didn't need to tweak the gameplay and just add more content instead. Nobody asked for uber realistic, uncanny graphics and animations.

Yeah, and it turned out to be one of the best action games ever made. Still playing it to this day and I don't regret my purchase.

I like DMC5 a lot, but I agree with this. So much of the game is outstanding, but it's also oddly timid. It coasts on its legacy and is basically just a Greatest Hits compilation for people to clap at, like a Fleetwood Mac concert. The reaction to the game has been like watching a 60 year old lady on her fifth Bud Light cheering at the first bars of "Rhiannon."

4 got an SE after 7 fucking years, even with Lady and Trish shoehorned into it for some reason. They know people really want playable Vergil in 5, and we'll fucking get it, but right now Itsuno is working on another new game, and that comes first.

there are no healing items and GORBS are harmless since no one worth their salt would ever use one outside of hell and hell

when you havea basic moveset that works perfectly there is no reason to start from scratch and risk creating something inferior to the original version, nero is meant to be a training wheels character with the same basic button combos to help acclimate people to dante before they pick him up and have to worry about the insanity that is style switching.
and the only static weapon dante has is rebellion the rest of his arsenal has either been upgraded (KCB) or straight up overhauled like balrog which is drastically different from all the other gauntlet weapons weve seen so far in the series.

Yeah I agree that they could've at least given them new animations for sword attacks. In fact it's the very same animations from 3 down to the joint movement, just with slightly tweaked easing times. For how much they kept talking about animation, it's kinda disappointing to see the exact same movements after 10 years since the last game.
