Lockdown Day 6 edition. Taking a breather from the FFXII artwork with a personal favorite.
What are ya playin' and/or grindin' today, Yas Forums?
JRPG Thread

Started Chapter 3 in CS4.
WRPGs are more immersive and offer more intellectual themes, because gamers in the West tend to stray from societal norms, thus are more intelligent, than Eastern gamers, who are just normies in Japculture.
Been watching a lot of Isekai anime inc Overlord making me want to play a comfy JRPG and just slowly level up a Wizard until he's OP as shit.
Naturally the genre completely fails to fulfil on this fantasy, playing through FF9 just because nothing else seems interesting. Might have to go for an MMO at this rate.
How is this thread that you keep posting every day any different from a JRPG general thread that should go on /vg/?
I *could* recommend Persona 3 Portable solely for the Skill and Incense Card system and how it allows you to basically beef up any Persona, low- or high-level, to extremes that no man should probably go to. But that leaves out basically everything else - i.e. Social Links and shit like the story itself - and I'm not sure how much you'd be into that.
Replaying Growlanser IV, reminded how fantastic this game is. If you love trpgs you own it to yourself to play this game
I just want a nice JRPG with a fun and compelling story that also gives you proper customization options so you can allocate your stats and class skills and shit as you like. Most of them are SRPGs like fire emblem which I fucking hate. The closest would probably be FFXII which I've already finished many times.
How good is FFXII?
I've only played a few of them like: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 10-2 (I still regret this), 14 now and then for new story
Either play tons of srpgs or try Xenoblade.
I can only recommend the Switch version because the QoL make it that much more enjoyable. I didn't enjoy the original (or the zodiac international) version that much back when it came out. The PS4/PC remaster also is missing some of the QoL that the Switch remaster has.
I sadly don't own a Switch, and don't plan on getting one either, if it's just for 1 game
Already finished XBC2 like three times, it's a really good game. I'm hyped for XBC:DE since I could never get into the original XBC when it came out for Wii.
PC version should be fine enough, then. The QoLs aren't *that* important, but they make for good niceties.
Bump
Can you sum up what these QoL do?
The most notable ones include a better NG+ (namely, you can now carry over items that you acquired in your last playthrough), a Gambit set increase from 1 to 3, and the ability of changing your party's jobs at a certain spot in-game. All helpful, but again - if you want the base experience and a handful of improvements as-is, PC will do just fine.
Is One Vision mod good for someone who sucks balls at TRPG/
>tfw suck at TRPG to the point where I can`t finish the first encounter in FFT, Siege of Weald, without most party member dying
Alright, I found a cheap deal on FFXII Zodiac Age
Been longing for another JRPG after I finished TLR
whats
Price
/vg/ sucks
Bump.
If you suck, it's not a good idea to play a difficulty enhancement made for veterans
Started trails in the sky. Three hours in. It's pleasant but it's not gripping me.
I can't decide between playing Final Fantasy X or the .hack games. Which one would you guys recommend?
I've heard .hack is pretty great if what you're looking for is basiaclly SAO but done right and in the form of a mildly obscure JRPG, so there's that. Wouldn't know much about FFX aside from some janky mechanic memery, though. I guess you could flip a coin. Nothing to lose anyway, right?
Kiseki, especially Sora starts off really slow. It's like playing a long-running battle manga. It's comfy as hell.
FFX is my favorite game ever. .hack is middling and extraordinarily repetitive even by JRPG standards, though I will give it points for uniqueness.
About 10 hours into DQ11, it feels a little boring, what do
That's what I needed to hear.
I just finished Dragon Quest 5 after playing 1, 3 and 4. I was planning on jumping straight to 6 but I need to take a break from DQ. I want to start Shin Megami Tensei series, but some people say the first one (snes) isn't the best start so I'm a little lost.
Drop it. I have no idea why DQ games are shilled so fucking hard.
It’s up for half a day at most, they’re not constant threads
>get to Disc 3 in FF7
>instantly lose all motivation to continue because there’s nothing to do but grind and beat the game
The rest of the game is paced perfectly but for some reason Disc 3 is nothing more than a dumping ground for whatever the fuck is available to do at the end of the game
Play in release order. Start with SMT 1
That F7R combat seems kinda fucked. It's dressed like it's an input based action game like Kingdom Hearts of XV, but it's actually pretty much just XII with less options of interesting party mechanics. I like XII, but I feel like a lot of people are gonna be a little disappointed when they realise 90% of attacks are undodgeable, your positoning not really mattering, or your inputs. It's much more tactical than action based where timing your charged moves to strike when you break someones barrier (ala XIII) is key to success.
A lot of people that dislike XIII take issues with a lot of the stuff that X started. It's a fun romp though.
I'd always recommend SMT3, but a lot of people say it's a departure from the franchise, so maybe just give release order a try and see how you like the first.
You can do what said - which would probably be for the best, as it gives you a good idea of SMT's foundations while expanding on its core mechanics with every game - but if that's not quite your forte, you can also start from Nocturne, primarily because it makes for a good intro as well.
It's really up to you, though. SMT's one of those series where you can usually start from anywhere and just get into it. Notable exceptions include SMT2 and Persona 2, in part due to the fact that they rely on the story of their prequels.
SMT4 is practically made to be an intro to SMT, there's a twist at the beginning that only works if you haven't played the other games. It's not the best one but is still pretty good
Obligatory Azure Dreams post.
Based user but Selfi was best girl
That's the spice
Can I get some jrpgs where I can romance cute girls?
You can.
...
After listening to the P3 OST, I've got an urge to pick The Answer again.
Yeah but what are they. I only know the basic stuff like modern Persona/FE.
Persona, sort of.
Oh. You didn't ask for that. You just asked if you can.
Is it worth going through The Answer, P3bro? I'm still chipping away at my NG+ run of P3P, but I haven't really touched FES yet, mainly because I hear that The Answer's just... alright.
>I hear that The Answer's just... alright.
This is correct. You can play it if you like P3 and want more, and The Answer is a bit harder than the main game if that's your thing, but it really isn't anything special.
I'm making the most out of this quarantine situation. I get paid tons even by doing nothing kek. Currently playing SMT3 Nocturne, Doom Eternal and FF7 Remake alternatively each session. I'll get to p5 royal after I finish ff7r.
I don't get what's with the hate over the remake. I wouldn't have probably brushed it off if it was a 1:1 remake of the original but that shit's just boring. Knowing it has changed to it piqued my interest. No need to be such a downer Yas Forums, damn I know this place is cynical as fuck but shit, just have fun and play the damn game for what it is.
>The Answer is a bit harder than the main game if that's your thing
Being able to one-hit nearly everything at Lv99 makes me crave for something of a challenge, so I don't see why not. I guess I'll give it a shot at some point. Thanks!
how good is 5 ?
>People used to get angry at what a waste of money £2 horse armour was in Oblivion.
>Now people buy Persona 5 costume packs at £9 each happily
I should replay Persona 3 again. What's the better one to emulate, PS2 or PSP?
>Being able to one-hit nearly everything at Lv99
You basically start from zero and don't have a compendium in the Answer.
>Now people buy Persona 5 costume packs at £9 each happily
Do they? Do you have much in the way of proof that people are buying them? I have never seen a single soul buy them.
>It's dressed like it's an input based action game like Kingdom Hearts of XV, but it's actually pretty much just XII with less options of interesting party mechanics.
I had this feeling as well when playing the demo. It reminded me more of Rogue Galaxy which always bored me. Especially coming off of KH and FF12, it just seemed like a middle ground of the two and middle grounds are boring to me. But I've only played the demo of 7R and I also only played it once. I hope I'm wrong and the combat reveals more nuance to me
About to play FF6 on the GBA soon. Should be fun.
Afraid I've got no reciepts, but if they're throwing even more new costumes packs into Persona 5 Royal for people to buy.. I guess that's the only proof I've got that the practice worked. They're doing it again.
Heya, fellow Nocturne friend! Where are ya at right now?
PS2 for more of a challenge and visual quality, PSP for QoL stuff and the addition of Kotone's storyline, if you feel like giving the story a spin.
>don't have a compendium
Ah, good to know. Thank god I wasn't building one up over there, would've probably necked myself if I lost the progress.
I always preferred PS2 because it has the cutscenes and P3 cutscenes are kino as fuck. But if you don't mind just looking those up on youtube afterwards then play PSP I guess.
Well, yea. Kinda silly to complain about the end-game feeling like end-game.
You can actually finish all that shit at the very end of disc 2. Have you beaten the game before? What other sidequests are left?
>high-rise 90s lingerie
WHY did this go away?
it's too scandalous
PS2 didn't have cutscenes? The fuck lel
Thanks everyone, I'll just start with the first one and work my way up since there aren't many mainline games. And I think going backwards could be a little underwhelming because of QoL and stuff.
I thought it was great, 5 and 3 are my favorite for different reasons. 5 improves greatly on the storytelling aspect of 4 and I found it very compelling. It is a tad easy though.
I don't know what you mean.
youtube.com
First Nier has been in my backlog for a while so I think I'm gonna do that today
Whoops, I meant
>PSP didn't have cutscnes? The fuck lel
gimme a rpg that has ecchi lolis
Final Fantasy VIII Switch remastered edition. Started out shit but has gotten better. "Go talk to a wall" may be the single most retarded line a main protagonist has ever said in any video game
