>Final Fantasy VII remake is supposed to be an episodic, multi-part event >First thing they do is piss off the fans by revealing that it's not going to be a remake at all, but some stupid new bullshit out of Namura's ass >they expect the fans to keep investing this series after being sold a massive catfish
Congrats Square, you had a surefire hit and somehow still managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Looks like the brain tissue transplant from Lucasfilm's employees was successful.
What makes you think there would ever be apart 3? It's probably a 2 part series. They changed the story precisely to shorten it. It would be financially impossible to adapt the entirety of FF7 into modern day standarts.
Ryan Ward
the amount of seethe over not being a 1:1 remake is hilarious
Angel Peterson
XIII-3 exists. They are going to keep shitting down fans' throats until they never ask for another remake ever again.
Ethan Brown
This. Funny that gaming has been using "remake" wrong all these years but it's suddenly a problem when it's finally done correctly.
Gavin Allen
I mean, hypothetically Square could respond to the backlash with story patches like they did with FFXV, but I think Namura is going to be too much of a primadonna to let Square retcon his changes. Then again, that's how I expect things to go based largely on the American entertainment industry, and Japan is a bit more unpredictable. If they patched out the time ghost shit and replaced it with a few alternate cutscenes, then yeah, maybe it's not too late, but that is an extreme longshot.
Namura has never backed down on making his stories way too complicated and contrived in the past. If Square does try to course correct with Volume 2 it's possible that Namura will just walk away or move to a different game (like FFXVI) but again, that is operating under the assumption that Square is even worried about the direction they've chosen for this project.
If they fix it, I could see them getting all three episodes out, but I think the more likely scenario is that the first game sells great, Square takes this as validation, they double down hard on time travel / meta bullshit in volume 2, which no-one will buy, and then part 3 gets canceled. It's not the way I want this to end but it's what Square deserves if they let it happen.
They could have done it in one part. Just cut the fluff and FMV. Stick to the script and The game doesnt need the BEST graphics but still do a good job.
Also Multi plat to make the most money back
Liam Anderson
>NOOOOOO I DON'T WANT TO GO TO THE BEACH >PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME GET A TAN NOOOOOOO
It's not just that it's not a 1:1 remake. It's that it isn't a remake at all. It's a retconning sequel to a shitty movie that was a sequel to the original game with the side-games being included as canon. "Remake" is the subtitle (Final Fantasy VII: Remake), not a descriptor. Expect part two to be something like (Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth). They cashed in on nostalgia, only to deliver something absolutely no one wanted.
Anthony Cox
they need this time niggas shit for when ethots are lying on stream. just get them da fuck out of there.
Chase King
but it is a remake it literally follows all the same beats, they just added the changebad ghosts and future sephiroth you fags are overreacting like always
Brody Lewis
Dragon Quest 1 was a remake. It had improved graphics and gameplay, but it was the same game as on SNES. Enix was able to repeat this again wit DQ2. If DQ1 and DQ2 are remakes and follow this pattern, what does that make FF7R if it deviates from the formula by adding in random story shit that was never there? hint: it's not a remake in the absolute loosest sense of the word.
Aaron Baker
but it isn't. It's a Nomura fan-fiction. A brand-new story that uses the events of the original as inspiration. Nothing is being re-made here. It is a SEQUEL. Would you call Back to the Future III a remake of Back to the Future I, just because it loosely bases its plot on the events of that first, original movie? Of course not. Back to the Future III is a sequel.
Nathan Long
Having it arrive early in some places was a grievous mistake. There's so much misinformation thrown around with real spoilers that Yas Forums threads are worse than normal standards.
Christopher Taylor
Dragon Quest 1 was a remaster. FF7 is a remake.
Nathaniel Butler
Holy shit! Rufus looks stupid as fuck. What the fuck is this?
remakes aren't 1:1 you idiot Back to the future 3 is a sequel. Planet of the apes (2008) is a remake. stop being stupid
Xavier Flores
Some changes here and there are expected from a remake and understandable, like making Barret seem a little less merciless / extremist during the opening mission, and other things that might just plain not land well given the realistic graphics and voice acting.
Adding bullshit about alternate dimensions and timeline-correcting ghosts is wrong though, and fans are right to be angry about it.
Adrian Wood
>the amount of seethe over not being a 1:1 remake is hilarious
The story is about a time travelling Sephiroth who has altered the past and you have to put the time lines back together. That's the real plot of the game. The background plot of the original game doesn't matter. This is the most meta, stupid, and bizzare thing ever. It's not like it's a little change here or there it's like the fucking Evangelion Rebuilds.
Noah Perry
I love how you 5 autists think you speak on behalf of any kind of majority or significant category of people.
Its going to have rave reviews, 92+ on metacritic and fans are going to praise it for being bold in its direction in remaking the game for both new and old fans
Parker Wright
Its LITERALLY a REMAKE. If you want the original go play the original.
>it's finally done correctly. Turning a classic into a joke is correct? Look at this bullshit
Camden Phillips
The only reason I can think of that they did this, besides Nomura being a literal mental case, is they thought that "well since we're breaking up the game and the next one is years away, people will just look up the original story in the meantime and know what to expect" so they thought the only way to actually keep people interested in the next game is to just change the story so they don't know what will happen next. It's the kind of batshit retardation I can see SE thinking of.
Jayden Adams
>but it is a remake >it literally follows all the same beats, they just added the changebad ghosts and future sephiroth >you fags are overreacting like always
It's actually a sequel that takes place after FF7. This is another timeline/universe.
Julian Myers
t. Changebad Ghost.
Aaron Roberts
Yeah, tell that to the other millions of fans who will be flipping in about a week's time.
Jonathan Gomez
Were FFXV's story patches a response to backlash, or just Tabata trying to patch things in that he felt or knew should have been in there in the first place but couldn't get in due to the contract requiring the game to be out by 2016?
Camden Gonzalez
Why don't you seething niggers just go play the original game instead of whining endlessly? Honest question.
Robert Campbell
Square is basically telling a completely different story and turning Final Fantasy VII into a joke that sort of happens in the background. This is the most ass-backwards approach to doing a remake I have ever seen. They just couldn't give the fans what they wanted or what they were promised, they had to fuck it up on purpose.
Ethan Bell
Because it's more fun to do both
Jace Roberts
that doesn't make it any less of a remake you idiot
Gavin Torres
>Unable to read. So that's the real reason he went insane, huh?
Lucas Miller
>Get told you're getting one thing for 5 years >Find out at the very last second you've been sold a bait-and-switch >lol why you so mad?
>Back to the future 3 is a sequel. Planet of the apes (2008) is a remake. Yes. And Final Fantasy VII: Remake, which deals with time-travelling characters retconning the original events WITHIN AND AS A PART OF THE GAME'S PLOT, has more in common with Back to the Future III, which has the exact same setup, than it does with Planet of the Apes, which was the creators of the remake retconning things for a more modern take on the story.
Adam Nelson
A retard time travel story in $60 parts is doing it correctly great post paypig
Anthony Reed
I detect no argument.
Hudson Nelson
Why don't you just fuck off if you can't come up with an actual defense for this shit?
Nathaniel Butler
It wasn't so much a backlash so much as a resounding "meh" in response to the story. Tabata in all fairness put in a very good effort to make FFXV into something better than what it launched with, and overall it's one of the better 3D FF games after the various revisions and additions that they made.
Honestly, I would actually trust Tabata to right the ship if they replaced Namura with him on the FFVII remake project. Everyone complained that FFXV's story was too simple and bare-bones when it launched, but when you consider the alternative (Namura) that's a breath of fresh air.
Hunter Torres
>Turning a classic into a joke is correct?
"Turning"?
If you don't remember how many goofy shit FF7 contained, you were never a fan, and at best operate on vague recollection of the game from 20 years ago, at worst, you're simply a shitposter.
Mason Lee
>Back to the future 3 is a sequel You just proved his point, you ding dong.
Jonathan Butler
>the very last second Only if you weren't paying attention. Kitase warned us about a lot of this stuff (especially divvying the game up into pieces, the Canon Cop Ghosts and the Compilation tie-ins) in his interviews with places like Famitsu and Gamespot at least a year in advance.
Nicholas Wood
Retreading the same broad premise with a fresh approach is a remake. Sorry that you don't like how they remade it. Cry a river and go play the original.
Kayden Hughes
You're gonna have new fans that neither know about nor care about the changes, and you're also gonna have "fans" that just love the name Final Fantasy 7. FF7 fans are a lot like Nintendo fans in that they will eat garbage and love it.
Robert Parker
ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS RE-MAKE FFVII. HOW DO YOU FUCK UP SOMETHING THIS SIMPLE? IT REQUIRES ZERO CREATIVITY OR THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, THE ORIGINAL MATERIAL IS RIGHT THERE. PEOPLE WERE LINING UP TO GIVE YOU MONEY FOR IT SINCE AT LEAST 2005. IMAGINE BEING SO RETARDED YOU FAIL AT COPYPASTING AND TURN A BELOVED RPG INTO NOMURA'S RETARDED ALTERNATE TIMETRAVELING UNIVERSE RIDE, YOU ABSOLUTE STUPID BRAINDEAD NIGGERS
except they aren't and you are overreacting and acting like the remake has no similarities to the original. how you fucking retard Back to the future 3 is a fucking western
Just a reminder that Based Barry's XV is better than your shit "remake"
Joshua Gomez
If the story is completely different And the gameplay is completely different And the graphics are completely different And the content of the game is completely different What makes it a remake? Is MGS2 a remake of MGS1? No? Why not? Just because it's not 1:1 doesn't mean it's not a remake. >in b4 "because it says remake on the cover"
Isaiah Howard
this can't be real people will actually defend this
Doesn't make it any less of a bait and switch. SE was even begging people who got it early not to leak the twist last week.
Carter Evans
>They cashed in on nostalgia, only to deliver something absolutely no one wanted.
My own interest spiked from 10% to 90% upon learning abou the nature of the plot, but then again, I am apparently not a fan, because I enjoyed new materials expanding the setting, instead of rabidly hating them.
Hudson Fisher
Why does liking one game preclude me from expressing my hatred for another. You're so proud of FF7R for being a new game and I'm treating as I would any other bad game.
Andrew Cooper
>you are overreacting and acting like the remake has no similarities to the original. Entirely not the point. And it's clear you're either a disinfo Square employee, or a sub-80 IQ mongoloid. Either way, best of luck to you on the 10th.
Isaac Kelly
>if you now with me, you're against me! Bitch, I'm just curious why you're wasting your energy on shit you hate. The original game still exists untainted. So does the remaster. What does constantly throwing a shitfit do for you?
goofy shit is a segment where you visit a brothel to turn cloud into a girl or enemies that turn you into a frog not plot-altering garbage that reads like a 12 year old's sonic fanfiction
Zachary Roberts
People who wanted an exact 1:1 remake of the game have bad taste anyways and don't actually know what they really want.
Ian Roberts
>I am apparently not a fan correct
David Morris
We waste our time shitting on the game cause it's more fun than playing the game itself
David Jackson
Goofy shit is not the same as turning it into Avengers Endgame
Dylan Flores
>I enjoy being false-advertised to
Liam Stewart
>RE-MAKE But they did just that.
Eli Gonzalez
Wait. I'm totally out of the loop. What exactly did they change?
Dylan Diaz
>Back to the future 3 is a fucking western user...
So why don't you play a different game? One you enjoy.
Bentley Kelly
Yas Forumsirgins are just assblasted because they don't get what their brainlet mind wanted in a video game that they haven't played over 20 years ago.
Dylan Lee
He doesn't know
Joseph Lee
I wasn't even really going to buy it. But the based time jannie shit spiked my interest unironically. Much better than a 1:1 remake with superfluous garbage added in.
Basically everything. FF7R should have just been called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children 2
Camden Long
the story isn't completely different you fucking retard If it was what is the point of the changebad ghosts good job completely ignoring my argument, but what do i expect of an idiot that resorts to excusing people of being square employees. Do you not even know the movie you are talking about?
>We're selling you X >Why you've sold me X? Baaaait and swiiiiiiitch!!!
Elijah Robinson
You are neither hot nor cold, and since you are luke warm I shall spew you from my mouth.
Nathaniel Peterson
If the gameplay and plot are different what exactly have they remade?
Joshua Baker
Someone explain what's happening here.
Connor Reed
I guess I should be asking why you're wasting so much energy being pissed at a game that only shares a name with a thing you like and in no way soils your memory of it.
Blake Fisher
ok retard
Kevin Cox
Hojo is about to reveal shit Cloud shouldn't learn for another whole disc and the ghosts show up to stop him
Wyatt Mitchell
>that doesn't make it any less of a remake you idiot
Back to the Future 2 is not a remake of 1 even though they share many scenes. This is all time travel wankery and the story is going to go off the rails in part 2.
Owen Parker
Because old material/ideas don't translate well over 20 years later? The fuck you on about faggot.
Ayden Bennett
If they can't finsh FFXV's DLC I've got no hope of them finishing FFVII's multipart series.
Alexander Martinez
>Darkstar >military canine Why is nu-Rufus such a dofus?
Charles Fisher
The point of the time ghosts is SPECIFICALLY to point out that the story IS completely different. The ghosts appear to maintain the original timeline, and you fucking kill them and then have an anime duel with Sephiroth in the flying ruins of Midgar. The game is EXPLICITLY telling you "this is no longer the original story," you literally killed the fucking meta-beings maintaining the original story.
Lucas Edwards
I could ask you the same, why you would rather defend this garbage instead of playing something more enjoyable?
Lincoln King
I can see both sides. It's in the same world, but its not a remake. I have fun getting to do things differently but it feels kind of weird at the same time to not do the stuff that I should have been doing.
It's like if someone remade the first star wars movie, and Luke never met Obi wan but found some random dude who wasn't Han Solo and ended up with a different crew going to the Death Star and then escaped from Vader without ever even meeting Obi Wan.
That's the equivalent of FF7 Remake. You can guarantee some fans of any series in existence would be bootyblasted.
Imagine if Harry Potter movies were remade and he ended up in Slytherin instead and Hermione and Ron were his rivals instead of friends.
Imagine if when they did the Starcraft remake, Jim Raynor just fucks off with with the Confederacy immediately and never meets Mengsk.
It's not a remake, but a game taking place in the same world. The problem is people were promised a "remake".
The genre has nothing to do with it, user. Try using just a little bit of brainpower here.
Jordan Bailey
>Because old material/ideas don't translate well over 20 years later?
But they are ALL there though idiot. They took the original game and 90% of it is the same then added time ghosts off the rail ending.
Carter Hernandez
Seethe more faggot, Nomura's cock is going to go in your mouth and you can't stop it.
Lucas Wood
Because it shares a name with something I like and further soils how it's perceived by others. It's going to discourage people from actually playing FFVII since they'll assume it's just as mad as the remake
Carter Price
>I paid zero attention to what creators said about their game, therefore faaaaalse advertiiiiising!!!
Samuel Parker
I'm so sad. I feel betrayed, lied to, deceived and spit upon. I a still buying it to support SE because their earlier games taught me so much about life and friendship but I hope the future remakes are true to the story
