You’re not really going to get anything that looks like that (Mid-80’s anime). There are some PC-88/Early PC-98 games that would be the closest, but those are Late 80s anime aesthetic, not Mid-80’s.
Really the best stuff is 90’s aesthetics, like Yu-No: The Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of the World.

Anime has technically been a thing since 1917, but anime as we’ve come to understand it really started in the mid 60’s. Yes, the 70’s had anime, some of it quite good.
As for english I only know the best of the 90’s stuff. My recommendation is YU-NO. If oldschool VNs have a masterpiece, YU-NO is it.
