Why are literally ALL WRPGs high fantasy or sci fi? Why are there no modern settings for a WRPG? A full game based around the first 10 minutes of Fallout 4 would be comfy, where you're just some random guy living in a modern suburbia.

Do you really want another Beepzorz thread? Do you really?

The west is in a creative bankrupt. More news at 11!

It comes from so many of them being derivative works usually based on a tabletop game, even the ones that break the typical fantasy mold only do so because its adapting something that was already doing so.

as oppose to being derivative to wizardry

Can you list any western game that follows this strawmand made in this century?

>there is no wrpg in modern setting
youtube.com/watch?v=D7U4DDnqtpM

Deus Ex and VTMB both came out this century.

Attached: j'rpg'_8.jpg (2000x1176, 529.25K)

what is beepzorz?

You’re all total faggots.

Divinity, PoE are recent ones.

this west vs east shit got old 10 years ago and you faggots are still on this

Underrail, ATOM RPG, Tyranny, Age of Decadence, Insomnia: The Ark, Caves of Qud, etc. Lots of good RPG's have come out in the past decade, let alone this century.

>RPG with modern setting
>can't leave home due to corona virus
10/10 would play again

How similar are the Dragon Quest games to each other? The new one looks interesting, but I tried the first one and it was boring.

>Why are there no modern settings for a WRPG
Deus Ex

Come on now. Witcher a Tolkien fantasy? It's more like alt late medieval with slav folklore and tolkien tropes for races. I agree, i am sick of the generic "tolkien" settings. Tides of Numenera was rather interesting.

JRPG settings all suck arse except for Xenoblade and mainline SMT

the Japanese all have the mindset of teenagers

you forgot one minor detail: J"""""RPG""""" games have no role playing

>Why are there no modern settings for a WRPG?
CDDA
Deus Ex
VTMB
JA2
Hammer and Sickle
Midwinter
Liberal Crime Squad
Night Watch

Attached: 1569111796759.jpg (612x413, 71.68K)

Every single one is exactly the same with one or two inconsequential gimmicks.

>i am sick of the generic "tolkien" settings
Tolkien is the modernization of classic mythology. It incorporates myths from all European cultures. Do you even understand what you are saying? Do people not read classicism anymore? Do they just think all the mythology in LotR is original? It pulls from everything, from Greek myth to Shakespeare. If a game even somewhat resembles something from the entirety of the Western history there is always some retard that goes "WTF TOLKIEN RIP OFF, THE WEST HAS NO CREATIVITY"

Attached: 1571098310285.png (527x471, 384.04K)

japs are incapable of letting the player actually do anything. Sure, some settings/stories are creative, but you are on the same railroad every fucking time, there is no input/choice/decision in jrpgs. It really limits the creativity and fun you can have as the player, since you are just reenacting some retarded jap's fantasy. at least western developers ATTEMPT to let you role play

Japs don't do open worlds well. It's ironic that there's a geist of people praising obscure "genre breaking" JRPGs on Yas Forums like Moon, Radiant Historia, Star Ocean, etc. that basically emulate the status quo designs of CRPGs. (badly) Weebs are mostly extremely ignorant consolefags.

Is Beepzorz every going to say anything about wrpg vs jrpg combat systems?

>Japs don't do open worlds well.
Xenoblade

Bro, Xenoblade is fucking awful. The series plays like a single player Korean MMO. This is exactly what I'm talking about.

Xenoblade X has a better open world than any western game

the open world of xenoblade x is beyond anything a wRPG, or almost any game for that matter, has acheived

>he says while posting games with teenage audiences in mind
Why are Xenofags and SMTfags so lacking of self-awareness?

this is your mind on weebshit

would you mind explaining why we're wrong?

>except for Xenoblade and mainline SMT
There are tons of jrpgs with more fleshed out and interesting settings.

>more fleshed out
maybe, gears and saga are certainly more fleshed out
>more interesting
than xenoblade? nah

Would you mind explaining why your right? I will set the bar really low, explain how Xenoblade has a better open world than the classic CRPG Pool of Radiance made in 1988. Surely you can prove it has a better open world than a game that is 32 years old. :^)

Attached: worldmap.jpg (1282x926, 310.28K)

the level design is miles ahead, both horizontally but ESPECIALLY vertically, it is also made for both mech and human traversal, traversal which is much more fun to do due to high speed running and high jumping with no fall damage to mess with exploration. There's a lot more of it, each area is also more unique. The only classic cRPG that comes close to being as unique is planescape torment and that's only because it largely copy pasted D&D

Attached: 1cTybvD[1].jpg (2792x1770, 823.6K)

Why isn't there an RPG about Mafiosos?

Attached: 1_a9lHgQyCEuk6R6116E-wSg.jpg (1024x768, 223.22K)

>maybe,
Not maybe at all, Xeno doesn't compare to worldbuilding like Wild Arms, Kiseki, SaGa, Suikoden, etc. Baiten Kaitos has a more
interesting setting that isn't just a ripoff of something else

kiseki is the only one from that list with a more fleshed out world, and that's because it's 9 games now versus 1 or 2. 9 games inspired by xenogears which have yet to reach its depth mind you. baten kaitos's premise is floating islands, it isn't nearly as unique. The only unique areas are mira, and arguably diadem.

For one, it's actually fun to move in xenoblade x unlike the trash found in waves of classic cRPGs. Two, no cRPG has a more unique world than xenoblade x when it comes to environment design. Three, no classic cRPG has the wild vertical depth of xenoblade x. There's a reason why BotW's world gets its dick sucked non stop; the design was set in place by xenoblade x

>the level design is miles ahead
Whoops, nope, we have a big problem already. Xenoblade maps are literally empty blobs. So much of the game is just a straight up empty field with crap lazily scattered around
>it is also made for both mech and human traversal, traversal which is much more fun to do due to high speed running and high jumping with no fall damage to mess with exploration
This misses the entire point of exploring RPGs. You are suppose to be dungeon crawling. Its supposed to be dangerous, when you uncover a part of the map its really rewarding because you worked really hard for it.
>The only classic cRPG that comes close to being as unique is planescape torment
PST is a modern CRPG, not a classic one. Everything made after '95 is modern. This is when major design shifts occured.

It's literally designed like a Korean MMO, dude. Its so shit it's hilarious. Its the most soulless piece of shit imaginable. The maps are designed like fucking Skyrim lol.

Mafiosos never really work in japanese games because they already have the Yakuza and their traditions make for good games. Mafia is mostly the looks and drugs

All those games have more fleshed out worlds, you don't play Xeno for world-building unless you are desperate. Xenogears doesn't have any depth, all the information is cramped into a fucking book and barely any of it is in the actual game. Baiten Kaitos doesn't have to be unique, it's more interesting since it's not only better fleshed out its more alive. You never feel like you are actually on a huge beast in Xenoblade

>it is also made for both mech and human traversal, traversal which is much more fun to do due to high speed running and high jumping with no fall damage to mess with exploration
Might and Magic 6 did this 22 years ago and in a fashion that is literally 100x better because there's actually cool shit to do on the maps. Why has Yas Forums still not played this game? Its been hosted on Yas Forums in a pastebin for like the last decade. Wew lad, disgusting.

Attached: big think.png (240x240, 106.54K)

>Xenoblade maps are literally empty blobs
every single hexagon on the XCX map has multiple things to do, if X is empty I don't know what you'd consider cRPGs outside of towns to be
> Its supposed to be dangerous
X's world is more dangerous than any cRPG I've played, gargantuan enemies ready to destroy you or your mech are around every corner
>you're supposed to dungeon crawl in all RPGs
no
>when you uncover a part of the map its really rewarding because you worked really hard for it.
as you do in XCX getting through massive enemies and alien camps
>PST is a modern CRPG, not a classic one.
then I guess no classic cRPG has a setting that's close to being as unique as XCX

>it's actually fun to move in xenoblade x
Why do you mean, you fucking retard? RPGs are not action games.

>This misses the entire point of exploring RPGs. You are suppose to be dungeon crawling
This is one of my major problems with this game, the fucking caves are non-existent and all the interior areas are awfully designed. X was a complete train-wreak

most everything about xenogears's world is in the game, perfect works gives more depth to characters than world concepts. You have a losing argument when you say xenogears doesn't have any depth while you praise kiseki in the same breath; the former is the major inspiration for kiseki alongside suikoden 2

>X's world is more dangerous than any cRPG I've played
I can 100% guarantee you've only played normieshit.

>teenagers killing the pope
gets me every time

explain the cool shit

I'm not sure how it gets more dangerous than being spotted by a 100 foot tall alien monster from distances that dwarf any cRPG aggro range instantly destroying your mech then your party

Nintendo fanboys everyone

xenoblade is easy as shit dude, you are never in any real danger

>explain the cool shit
You basically go from a weak party struggling to barely survive walking across a tiny portion of the map to literally flying around the world at a million miles an hour like a fighter jet shooting a billion arrows a second and dropping literal nukes on 100+ enemies at a time. The dungeon design is also sublime, with unique painstakingly handcrafted layouts with unique puzzles, traps, and encounters, and there are A LOT of them. It's one of the best games ever made.

Attached: spook.png (640x480, 309.07K)

Perfect works is the major inspiration for Kiseki, which each game following a large continuity. Not Xenogears itself. Which never mind since has a more fleshed out setting. Gears is barely fleshed out, all the lore is just brushed upon in both discs and never properly explained outside of Zeboim

more dangerous than any cRPG that offers quick save, it doesn't get more dangerous than getting one shot

>You basically go from a weak party struggling to barely survive walking across a tiny portion of the map to literally flying around the world at a million miles an hour like a fighter jet shooting a billion arrows a second and dropping literal nukes on 100+ enemies at a time
this is literally what xenoblade x is except the map design isn't almost entirely horizontal flat space

>it's not xenogears it's perfect works
I don't say this often, but cope

>he's never played stalker

Attached: 1402167945285.jpg (1280x2700, 749.96K)

As much as I like JRPG, nothing they make has come close to Kingdom Come: Deliverance in atmosphere.

Maybe Sekiro is close, if it counts as a RPG.

>this is literally what xenoblade x is except the map design isn't almost entirely horizontal flat space
Bro, the map in the picture I posted is obviously not horizontal. Just try it. See how its done the right way. You have no excuse not to play it now.

I enjoy both
but my favorite rpg of all time is BG2
The only game that I don't think I can ever get tired of playing, its incredible

Why are all JRPGs everything at once?

>more dangerous than any cRPG that offers quick save
Don't savescum then, faggot. You realize when those games were originally made, it took a solid 2 minutes to save, right? People weren't saving every 5 seconds.

>Put a europeon building in your game.
TOLKIEN!!!!!!!
>Be asian: Put europeon building in your game.
Ahh, a high fantasy world only the east could deliver. A dream truly realized!

It is annoying how neither side ever seem to borrow from each other's strengths.

Like that Harry Potter RPG coming out should be taking all sorts of ideas from Persona but I doubt it will.

good taste, kingdom come is one of the best modern rpgs in a long time, it has actual role playing

Soon™

Personashit is not a strength.

>mfw I want to play all of the cool looking WRPGs I see Yas Forums constantly gush about

>NOOOOOOOOOO STOP YOU HAVE TO LIKE JRPGS ON Yas Forums OR ELSE YOU'RE A NEWFAG OR REDDITOR STOP MAKING FUN OF GAMES THAT HAVENT INNOVATED ANYTHING SINCE 1990 STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP

Why are JRPG maps so bad compared to western ones?
