the only characters that don't belong are ones that will age terribly, nobody is going to give a shit about joker, a current gen-pokemon starter and whatever game-specific FE rep there is. and yes, i hate characters from things that aren't even released or were decided before release.
compare that to games where the same protag is always there or ones that still have cyclical ones but the stories and characters are unique and memorable each time like the mother/earthbound kids, as well as one-off games that are pretty decent on their own accord and have a distinct enough cast
even if ARMS doesn't go off on its own to be its own fighting series to qualify for the first example its still different and stand-out enough to warrant some mention- assuming they don't do something absolutely pants-on-head retarded like its actually an unannounced ARMS 2 character in which case i will have to concede with you that the rep doesn't belong

ROB has a pretty big legacy.

He was invented by Nintendo to get into American markets after the video game crash by disguising it as toy. Before appearing in Brawl, ROB was a character in Mario Kart DS, a treasure in Pikmin, and many other cameos in Nintendo games.

I'm assuming that the smash rep is mostly so there's a renewed interest which will probably lead to a sequel. I honestly think that ARMS is one of the very few nintendo ips that really needs a second installment or at least some kind of larger free update/dlc.

It's going to be Spring-man with a Ribbon Girl alt and they could even give them a Ninjara and MinMin alt.

Rent free. Deku, Goron, or Zora Link all would have been better. Really they should be on cycle like Pokémon trainer but then they would have to have 3 characters take up on DLC slot which they’re not going to do. Paper Mario also would have been better, as well as Rayman, Porky, DK Junior, even fucking Waluigi would have been better.
