This is one of the worst games I’ve ever had the displeasure of playing, but somehow it’s still not as shitty as one of the shittiest franchises in the history of movie franchises .

Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

Well, GameCube and Xbox are the exact same game.

This game btw was the basis for a 6th gen version of Sorcerer's Stone which of course came out one year AFTER Chamber of Secrets. It reuses a lot of assets and places from CoS of course, like Majora's Mask does with Ocarina. It sold poorly due to being bizarrely released in 2003, two years after every other Sorcerer's Stone game.

GameCube disc is quite rare and pricey.

I didn't notice when I watched the movies as a kid but now it's kind of depressing watching the movies go from wholesome family oriented fairytale with Christian themes in Sorcerers Stone to the pseudo atheist broodfest it became from Goblet of Fire onwards. Who the fuck came up with Merlin's beard as an expletive? And where did Christmas go? It made perfect sense the wizards and witches could still believe in Christ but it's like the entire wizarding world was retconned to have developed outside of regular human exsistence. In both instances the PC game is a classic but very lacking compared to 6th gen console ones. Every one of them is full of SOUL and has their own little peculiarities and unique details.

CoS on GBC was very solid. PoA was a similar fun RPG on GBA but then they ditched that style of game with GoF for DS and went with some weird mission based game. A step down and I stopped buying the games after that. I heard 7 was like an FPS though.

Different directors, different visions. I agree that the early Potter films were the best, I never liked Yates style.

The Order of Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince games were ambitious. The idea of exploring a 1:1 scale Hogwarts and manually casting spells through analog movements or motion control for Wii were breathtaking for the time

You were exploring a concept of Hogwarts made for the films and mostly based around movie sets/set pieces. Not at all a cohesive castle, and honestly pretty small. Janky as fuck too and unintentionally hilarious at best, completely broken uncanny valley at worst.
